A Highly Effective, Nuanced Drama
csweat-8144011 March 2018
This film displays great character development. It has just the right amount of foreshadowing to move the plot forward, and keep the viewer engaged. The script contains several plot twists, with just the right amount of intrigue.

As with all good crime dramas, the characters each have their own motivation for reluctantly engaging in their sordid scheme. The complex emotions of each character allow the viewer to immerse themselves within the plot, which illuminates the philosophical quandary inherent to the storyline.

I was particularly interested in how the main character, Tyler Mason (portrayed by Ashton Bingham), chooses to approach this dilemma. One wonders throughout if he will possess the strength of character to overcome the insidious machinations of his criminal enterprise. In my opinion, the emotional gravity of his internal struggle constitutes the triumph of this ambitious, gritty endeavor.

Yet the fim does not abuse its insighful and introspective qualities. Instead of devolving into pretentious melancholia, Easy Money consciously affects a balance between gallows humor and sobering psychological realism. The screenwriters knew the tropes of their genre, and did an admirable job of subverting or maintaining them as needed.

Those who are expecting a high budget Michael Bay style action film, rife with gratuitous explosions and car chases, will likely find Easy Money wanting. However, those who yearn for a simultaneously endearing and disturbing film may very well enjoy this.

Highly recommended.
