This serial was based in Punjab. It was a story of a Sikh and Hindu family who are neighbours and best of friends. The strife in relationships occur within this loving atmosphere because of the prevailing tensions in Punjab. The serial was directed by perhaps one of the best directors in our film industry, Mr. Lekh Tandon.

It became quite an exercise for me to relate to absolutely basic Indian emotions coming from a rather westernized school of acting. Mr. Tandon, or Lekhji, as I call him, really helped me a lot to just get over the inhibitions and relate to a louder set of emotions and overall acting style which was required for the role.''

Unconventionally good looking, exuberant, energetic, and multi-faceted are just the right words to describe the very popular actor, producer, playback singer, and TV anchor, Shahrukh Khan. He is one of the most popular and loved Bollywood stars, who has been compared to the likes of legendary actors Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan. He has reigned Bollywood since early 1990s and with his never-say-die attitude and love for movies he is expected to stay at the top for long. His life has been just like one of his melodramatic family movies with happiness, love, pain, success, failures, and more success.

Shahrukh Khan was born on the 2nd of November, 1965. He was brought up with his sister Shehnaz, lovingly known as Lalarukh, by their Muslim, pathan parents. His parents were originally from Pakistan but were based in Delhi's Rajinder Nagar area post partition.

Very bright and energetic as a child, Shahrukh Khan was an all-rounder during his school days at St. Columbus. His school applauded his excellence in academics, sports, and extra-curricular activities (obviously read 'drama'!) by awarding him the Sword of Honour. He completed schooling in 1985 and joined Economics (Hons.) course in the well-known Hansraj college, Delhi University. He was actively involved in the college dramatics society. Apart from college and dramatics, another thing that he was actively involved in was the love of his life, Gauri Chibber. He met Gauri, about five years younger to him and now his wife, at a common party. After a long affair and almost a Dilwale Dulhaniye Le Jaenge kind of 'wooing the family' gig Shahrukh finally married Gauri in 1991. During the period between 1988 and 1991, he was involved in his Mass communication (Film making) course at Jamia Milia Islamiya University for a year and doing theater with Barry John. This was approximately the same time at which he began his career as an actor.

Lekh Tandon has films like Amrapali, Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye, and Agar Tum Na Hote to his credit.

He then shifted to television to make serials like Phir Wohi Talash and Dil Dariya.

His claim to fame includes introducing Shah Rukh Khan.

Though Fauji was SRK's first serial to be aired, the serial he began shooting for first was Tandon's Dil Dariya.

Now, the two are working together again, this time as co-stars in Ashutosh Gowariker's [ Images ] eagerly anticipated Swades [ Images ], Tandon tells Lata Khubchandani: He shot for Dil Dariya first. Fauji came on air first, followed by Circus.

One of the best serials...Great story line great performances.... Those days when DD serials were great. Seeing Shahrukh in the serial is like a treat. A superstar in making Performance of Virender Saxena, Arun Bali are too good.
