The film beautifully portrays an older homosexual couple with the intimacy and closeness that comes with many years together. However, where the film falls short is in its sudden ending; it concludes very abruptly, leaving viewers with numerous unanswered questions: Who is this friend, what is their relationship, is the man bisexual, and what was in the letter? The resulting questions leave us wondering what will happen next-will it lead to suicide, or will he confront his rival, or perhaps his now ex-husband.
It lacks a proper conclusion that better describes the relationship between Knud and his friend and what they truly share. Because that relationship can also be beautiful, but the main purpose of the film must still be to remind us to be kind and take care of each other.
