Weekend at Bernie's: CSI Edition
hawkspride-4707911 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Gene Farrow is back and this time he's the victim of a crime that involves the death of his aunt. But is he REALLY the victim or is he causing problems for CSI again? Anyone who remembers Gene Farrow, he was the second episode of this season where he was a suspect in a murder at a haunted house. He also made a CSI doll of Allie Rajan. Yeah, THAT's not creepy at all. Well, he still has the hots for her when he asks her for help in this investigation. So, the CSI team investigates this murder, and it turns out that Gene was not the victim but the culprit. He kills his aunt because of a safe she has that includes jewelry inside (I only saw this episode once so I could be wrong about what was inside the safe). He also tries to establish an alibi by inviting his weird friends over for a party with his dead aunt, gives them drugs to not remember what happened at the party, and gets a REALLY creepy girl to help him play the victim card. As stated in the episode, Weekend at Bernie's meets the Hangover.

This episode is...okay. It's not the best episode but it's not the worst either. Praises to J. P. Manoux for playing the creepy Gene Farrow again. There's also this subplot involving Max still reeling from her attack. Honestly, I feel that they've been dragging that for most of the season and it's getting tiresome. I understand that it sets up for what's to come in the upcoming episode but still... Oh, and Greg might become a professor at a university to teach Criminalistics. I guess that means we won't be seeing Greg anymore...or will we? The show has been renewed for a third season so, anything is possible. I am upset that he didn't play a big part in this episode like the previous ones. And once again, the chemistry between Folsom and Allie is stronger than what's going on between Folsom and Serena. I still don't understand why they made Serena sort of go out with Folsom. I mean, Folsom confided with Allie about what is going on with his family in light of recent events. Serena has no clue and Folsom continues to keep her in the dark. Allie has to tell her what is happening with him and Serena seems to be okay with it rather than be a little ticked off that Folsom told Allie and not her. I have a feeling Serena is going to end this "relationship" with Folsom probably at the end of this season and hopefully down the road, Folsom and Allie get together.

Also, what is with the hate Allie is getting? One of the reviews said nothing but bad things about her. Am I the only one that doesn't mind Allie? Anyway, I would recommend watching this episode once in a while. Not the best episode but watchable. 6.3/10.

Terrible Writing, Love seeing Greg
CinemaSound9 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Who wrote this nonsense? It's the worst writing, with over dramatized personal plots (which we don't care about at all), and way over focused on the boring and bad acting new characters (nails on a chalkboard to watch). The two young woman questioning witnesses is just the stupidest, most unbelievable thing I've seen on network tv. It's like watching a kids show. The fans are vocal, they can't stand to watch Allie Rajan, it's CSI Rajan and you can't understand a word she says, and the same wide eye facial expression in every scene makes me want to vomit. Maybe you do this so people don't care about the plot lines since they suck anyway.

The only good thing this show has going for it in S2 is the presence of Marg Helgenberger and Eric Szmanda. Their characters are a god send to this joke of a show. I am pissed you gave little to no screen time to Greg Sanders. I feel betrayed you brought this CSI legend back and wrote nothing for him. How dare you test the fans emotions this way? On a previous episode, you had Catherine Willows bring her grand daughter into a mold infested crime scene, she would not have done that. Why do you make her character look so bad (and all the newbies look so good)? And why is she so randomly on some episodes and not others? And why did she barely have any screen time with Greg?

I give 7/10 stars for Greg/Cath, and 0/10 stars to the writers. I will give S3 a try, but I am out of here if Catherine and Greg do not return, and if they are not given front facing rolls with dynamic high quality scripts. This current CSI iteration really needs to do a 180, perhaps some OG writers are in order. Focus on our favorite legends and drop the super drama. Get back to the science, and write something extraordinary for our beloved OG top talents.

This gets worse every week!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm sure no one at CSI Vegas ever reads reviews. If so, we'd see a better plot--and better acting. This episode was a plate filled with horrible writing, acting, and directing. Let's just give it a burial and call off season 3.

Eric/Greg returning has been a waste of effort. Greg was always a bright light--but seems he's wearing a blanket over his personality. Just as the show did with Wm Petersen and Jorja Fox--cut scenes, threw a blanket over their chemistry.

Back to this episode: Allie needs promoted to a higher level of incompetence. "I think I know what happened" comment must be trademarked for her script.

I'm not sure what's happening with Max but she needs to move on or see a counselor (if you watched the original, you know some bad stuff happened to the CSIs--think Nick Stokes). Why doesn't Max do what she needs to do? (Anyone knows what's wrong with her walk--she looks pained every time she walks; does she need a hip replacement?

Where are the good writers? Where are the trained actors?

If you want to see almost perfection, watch season 2 of the original CSI--it is absolutely amazing how good that season continues to be.

Painful, lazy writing
emylye-139-3207935 May 2023
Two specific instances of writing so lousy that we paused the episode to (simultaneously) roll our eyes and insult the dialogue, and that's NOT including the lamest sub-plot ever for Folsom, who's had a few (as has poor Max, who's too smart and educated, both, to say stupid stuff about not believing in therapy for PTSD).

Allie (the character-not the actress; she is fine-is already the worst Mary Sue since Abby on NCIS) saying, 'well, you've only got one mum'... UGH. Seriously? Just yuck. Terrible, unaware response to someone talking about their dysfunctional parent. Do all Hollywood writers think we're all one perfect conversation away from reconciling with bad parents? We're not.

And then Serena saying to Allie something about 'what's up with your friend Josh?' because he's not texting back? NO ONE who's been dating a guy for months (or a season, in TV terms ) would call him that to the ex. And then Allie explains what's going on with him, like she understands him better than the woman dating him. Or like, to the writers, Allie has the legitimate relationship with Folsom rather than Serena. We keep saying we feel for the actress playing this character who, to the writers, often appears to just be Not Allie.

I just can't believe professional writers are so tone deaf to the universal detestation people have for Mary Sue characters... do they never talk to anyone but other writers? The more praise you write for other characters to heap on them, the more times you have them be the only one to solve a case, and the more times you have them break up a good relationship just by being Their Own Too-Perfect Selves...

... the more many of us groan and say to each other, 'ugh, Allie's gonna be front and center in this one... shall we skip it?' We even joked that we should make a drinking game; every time the character says something insufferable. But we decided we'd be drunk before halfway through the episode... oh, and we're too old for drinking games.

Stick to the cases, drop the soap opera dialogue, and please let other people shine once in a while. Did everyone know they were joining the cast of The Allie Show?
