This season is something else
Ole_Munch3 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
And not in a good or bad way. My issue with this episode (and season as a whole) is that it was a good episode of TV but not a good episode of Fargo. What I mean by this is that in Season 1 or 2, the stakes were set incredibly high by episode 8. Multiple main characters were already dead, and it was incredibly intense. This season? First main character death, and it was silly. It did the trope of "character doesn't answer phone that will tell them they are in danger." I mean really? Danish Graves was fantastic, he was a normal lawyer but with a unique eyepatch. This led me to believe that he would have some sort of connection to the dangerous side of the season. But nope. He's shot dead by Roy Tillman who is incredibly lucky to not already be dead or jailed by now. What I'm saying is Danish Graves was very wasted in my opinion and could have played an interesting role in these last two episodes, but it's clear the creators knew that someone would have to die by this episode. So there goes Danish. Everything in this season has been dragged out. Ole Munch appearing in Gator's car? That's it. We have to wait till next week to see what happens. Wouldn't have happened in Season 1 or 2.

In conclusion, good episode of tv but not by Fargo standards, especially so close to the end. Season has been way too slow for a Fargo season in my opinion. But there's still two episodes left so we shall see. Maybe they'll be phenomenal. Only time will tell.

Incredible
lloydtyler-051313 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Another fantastic episode of what has been an absolutely outstanding anthology series. With Dot now captured by Roy and State Trooper Witt hot on the tail it's looking like it's going to be an explosive last two episodes.

Gator seemingly has lost all forms of empathy due to his time being indoctrinated into Roy's cult of American idealism and Danish has been dispatched in an act of sheer barbarism.

It's absolutely thrilling and I genuinely can't call where they'll go next. I'm unsure as to whether or not Roy will truly get what he deserves in the end or whether Indira and Witt will make it out unscathed.

Sadly we've got to wait another week to find out but I cannot rave enough about this season. Definitely one to recommend to the co workers!

Don't let me down
dolphiea3 January 2024
First, let's get this out of the way, why would Danish go into that psychopaths lair alone? Clumsy, too easy, and ridiculous, writers you can do better... come on! Dot, love you girl. Should she be nominated for political office? That's not what she wants... Good lord, She only wants to be a soccer mom...I think that could and should happen... but maybe only and unfortunately in television life. The perfect song to wrap up this season- would be the Beatles Don't Let Me Down. That long, deliberate walk Sheriff Roy took to release his anger (I'm sure his steps were counted for some reason) Um, did we all not want to see him trip and dive into pig slop?

Destructable Indestructable
Hitchcoc4 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I am disappointed that there isn't more of a resolution at this point. Roy is such a monster that he has not one redeeming quality. His religious zealotry makes one sick. Although, I don't think he's one of a kind in that respect. He feels he can't be touched but like Dot tells him, he is going to get his at some point. There are some interesting things going on. First of all, we have the cop that assisted Dot in the convenience store when she was kidnapped. We have the stepmother who may not be formidable, but has so much money she can pay anyone to do anything. We have that nutcase assassin in the back of Junior's car as the boy drives away. The boy has been poisoned by Dot's accusations. He is thinking about what she said to him. The election has been corrupted in a very clever way and Roy may be out of luck. Now Dot needs to survive. I can't stand it that I have to wait two weeks to see how this ends!

Fargo for the win
theknownames7 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There are few series that I wait around for weekly or seasonally. I loose interest. This series, this episode, did not disappoint. The set ups are great and are starting to being fulfilled.

Danish taking care of business and on a high from his win, decided to try to solve things on his own. Unfortunately he greatly underestimated his foe.

Our home girl continues to demonstrate just what a survivor she is. She is in the demons den and things are looking bleak af.

I may be underestimating her mother in law. I doubt that anyone could foresee dealing with ruthless murders. If she gets that sense , she could hire mercenaries but she is used to paying people off and not dealing with sociopaths. The music the lighting or maybe its the color, works so well.

Idk about cinematography but this feels like what's good about it. If that lawman who asked her if she wants to go with him got killed it would have felt too contrived - cant go offing just anyone and they are getting reckless .

I still don't know wtf with the mud covered guy but he is pissed and I don't blame him. It will be unfortunate for our heroine if her former stepson is killed " There is still good in him" I want to believe that. Things are revving up as Roy becomes even more unhinged. I don't know why I feel the need to run like this with the play by plays. If you're reading this spoiler I assume you've seen it. Then I imagine we will wait together , until next week and then years maybe, for another season of Fargo.

How the mighty have fallen
ramblinhud6 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This show has fallen off. Season 5 has had interesting elements at times, but clumsy storytelling. Most of the men are portrayed as idiots and/or bad natured, yet Graves was interesting, but then they have him dumbly waltz on to the ranch alone without telling anyone and the sheriff murders him? Also, why would they let him on to ranch when they had just refused and shot at a cop? And why isn't that cop calling for reinforcements? I get the Sheriff is suppose to powerful in the state, but still clumsy storytelling. The season seems overly and dumbly unrealistic. Fargo use to be smart and eccentric, now just the latter in less satisfying form. Season 1 and 2 were phenomenal storytelling. Lester Nygaard? Lorne Malvo? Peggy Blumquist? Hanzee? Mike Milligan? Amazing characters! Season 3 was alright. Season 4 only had the crazy nurse going for it. I was hoping season 5 might have been a return to earlier brilliance, but seems they ought to just call it quits after this one.

Finally Season 5 got back to being like fargo
sosmanone14 January 2024
I am going to be honest. Since the beginning of the this season the show did not meet quality nor the story that matches the original Fargo, nor did it had the vibes. In fact it was so bad that i was thinking of quiting in mid season. Not because of the actors, their performances were excellent, the theme was great and the music was great as always. The only problem this season has is the storytelling. The way the story unfolded at the beginning was very mediocre. But after this episode it does leave an impact and raise the expectation for the finale. I hope this finale turns out great because this is one of my all time favorite show and i don't want this season to ruin its reputation.

The sadistic violence has gotten so bad since the first seasons
arizonastar4 January 2024
The first two seasons of Fargo were amongst my very favorite in the history of TV. Ever since season 3 though, the show has been spoiled by sadistic violence that makes my stomach turn. I'm sure some people just love it, but it ruins the whole show for me.

Like this season, 5, which has such an amazing cast, and is brave in how it just goes against so many typical conventions, in all sorts of ways. It's stimulating, interesting, and really well done. But why the sadistic violence seems to be so important for the makers, I cannot answer for the life of me.

It's a good thing this season came out 1 episode per week. If I would have watched several episodes in a day or a week, I would not have gotten so attached to the series, and I would have definitely stopped watching because making me watch all this sadistic violence just makes me, as a viewer, feel used.

Fargo falls into the cliches it used to excel at dismantling
Polanco4 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Last episode was unbearable, it was all a dream! Laziest plot in screenwriting. And now we have the smartest character, Danish the lawyer deciding NOT to phone (why????) his boss to tell her he is about to go to the house of a very dangerous criminal all by himself and does not tell a soul about it. They even went as far as him NOT answering the phone that would have told everyone where he was. It is such lazy writing it is incredibly annoying.

Also, every single man here is either completely evil with zero redeeming qualities or an idiot, like this lawyer. Every single white middle aged man, this is. Is it not about time white middle aged men can be good or smart again? How much longer will the backlash last?

Far gone blank
fealgu11 January 2024
In this episode be prepared to plunge headfirst into a visual pool of the absurdity. Don't expect logical plot threads or character motivations - instead, embrace the absurdity as characters pirouette through gratuitous violence and decisions that defy all understanding. You wait for a plot twist, but it never comes. Each episode has been more of the same. While it's expected that Fargo would have moments of strange and dark humor, this episode feels like it was lazily written by a hallucination AI. Fargo's embrace of the unconventional shouldn't excuse lazy writing, for even nonsensical stories deserve good plots, not an incoherent scribble.

Why is John Hamm so bad in this series?
inframan21 January 2024
I've always liked Hamm. Witty but not overly so, good-looking in an old fashioned masculine way, laid-back and laconic. But in this season of Fargo, he truly seems to be phoning in his performance. Or maybe just dozing on his feet. The part needs someone who can think and feel evil. John Hamm doesn't seem to be that guy. Maybe he really dislikes the character he's playing and just can't get a mean fix on him. It would have been a perfect part for a younger Tommy Lee Jones or Robert Duvall. Even Nicolas Cage could have done great things with it. Actually the ideal actor (imo) would have been the younger Joe Don Baker as he played Molly in Charley Varrick. One of the all-time bad guys in all filmdon.

Episode 8
bobcobb30115 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Indira's journey has been a nice subplot on this show, never at the forefront, but seeing Richa Moorjani in a different kind of role, was nice to see. Great moment and not just the same wife walking on the cheater, but standing up for herself in the process as well.

Danish had to know what he was doing was really stupid, but I guess they thought this is the Fargo universe and people get big headed all the time.

After some kind of curious writing for the majority of the season, they do have me invested in this though and I hope that we somehow get a satisfying conclusion to wrap it all up soon.

ever watch a writing team drown in front of your eyes knowing there was nothing you could do to save them?
A_Different_Drummer28 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
For clarity. Taking a formerly brilliant show and dragging it through the dirt -- both literally and figuratively -- in the name of a social cause does not make the entertainment quality any better. The trope of allowing the viewer to empathize with an escape attempt of the protagonist, only to have that attempt fail, is so tired and worn-out and over-used that the warning off the top of the episode should include that information too. Not only was this once a great series, but the first episode of this season was a standout. It made huge promises that the creative team were clearly incapable of delivering. And where did the continuity editors go? Presumably Mrs. Lyons (the mother-in-law) was sufficiently in the story loop to stage the debacle at the debate, yet at the same time paradoxically out of the loop when it came to knowing where Dot actually was? Raise your hand if, the moment Graves decided to visit Roy, you knew in your gut he was not coming out alive. Raise your hand if, as the closing credits flew by, you knew in your gut you had been hoodwinked into thinking this was actual entertainment, and in fact this was 45 minutes of your life you would never get back.
