MAMA MIA!
sitstill5 August 2023
A delusional Italian mother cannot entertain the idea that her cameraman son ever heard of cocaine and autoerotic asphyxiation. That he told her every thought he ever had, and a mother just knows. She forces the rest of her family the adopt the same position and spend the next 10 years ignoring autopsy results, judgements and countless investigations ruling that their son clearly died from autoerotic asphyxiation while on cocaine. Instead they harass his widow with countless baseless theories on her involvement in the "murder".

There are numerous cliff hanger revelations promised in the series, all turn out to be red herrings. Not one official ever saw one item of evidence of foul play.

The victims in this case are clearly the widow and the father and siblings of the deceased.

So this is a mini series about overbearing, controlling and blindfolded mothers.

We all know more than one.

Delusional mother
glsn11 August 2023
First things first. You will have a headache after you watch the show. It is really interesting that they really spent money and time to create this documentary that is based on ridiculous ideas of Mario's family. It is really annoying. The family blames their daughter in law non-stop. Nobody even bother to ask her how does she feel after all this tragedy. When I listened the interviews of the family I kinda understand why he committed suicide. Whole family have some serious problems. They don't trust authorities, they don't trust 3 different autopsy result, they don't believe their daughter in law. It was really hard watch.

Not very good, but not 1 star either.
marco_ramalheiro8 August 2023
Can't understand so many 1 star reviews (which actualy was what made me watch this).

The family is clearly disgusting and even 1 star is too high for them, but come on, the rating is for the documentary and not for the family.

It was their choice to do this poor figure, that is now available for every Netflix user to watch. And sure, the main content of the documentary is clearly that, because that is in fact the only story around this case: look at these crazy italians destroying another person's life, totally disrespecting their son's death, etc..

But again, the rating is for the documentary and not for Mario's family (who are utterly disgusting).

There is a crime story but aganist his ex wife
eczsozmen7 August 2023
One thing I learnt that you should not have an Italian boyfriend that will party with coke as a first time in his life, his whole family is crazy and the amount of harrassment is unreal. Instead of getting therapy this family feeds the media attention, turning it into an income. "Beautiful and suspicious Spanish wife" has one crime, to have a relationship with a low level person. She should not grant access to her life just because he was handsome. His family shows it. Their hurt is not the subject anymore, it's a true crime doc about a crazy mother. She clearly states that she still is stalking.

Waste of Time
katearmstrong-401166 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I never write reviews, but here I am. I love a good true crime documentary, so I was excited to watch a new mini-series. There was so much hype that the doc would build at the end of each episode that I kept hoping it was about to get good. This doc did not deliver. What it did deliver was an indulgent and biased account that was clearly paid for by a delusional family who refuses to accept the reality that their son committed suicide. The way they openly brag about harassing the man's wife for over ten years gave me the ick. I can't believe that the woman Raquel hasn't filed charges against this family.

To summarise, this mini-series is not a real documentary, but offers only unsubstantiated hot air. The build up fails to deliver a conclusion.

To save any potential viewers time, here is the plot: Two people fall in love. Man is found dead from hanging. Presumed suicide. Three autopsies amongst two counties agree that cause of death is suicide. Zero evidence to support murder or foul play. Family cannot accept. Two countries have hearings, both close cases concluding it was suicide. Body exhumed twice. Family cannot accept and wages social media threat war against son's wife. Film ends in the same place as the first episode. Zero bombshells revealed. Family cannot accept.

STUPID

I wonder who on earth would grant so much unwarranted weight age to this MAD MOTHER who has purposely corroborated to destroy a woman's life with her imaginative "truth"!!!

The whole bunch very evidently appears to be in denial of the demons of their lost member Mario Since they couldn't accept his suicide , busing a brothel , using cocaine , they simply decided to pin it on a woman How low can they get ?????

I felt they used their son's death as an apparatus to get fame and a hobby to consume time instead of dealing and healing with the loss Mother sardina is a face of loving satan and I truly believe this documentary be removed so they don't get more importance Really really poor family !!!!

One Sided, but Interesting
atleverton2 September 2023
I wanted to read other reviews of this series before posting mine, and I was quite surprised by the number of viewers who gave the series a bad review while 100% agreeing with the point of view of the filmmakers. So in effect, they were mad that they agreed with what they watched. As a true-crime series, it has an interesting point of view which judging by the reviews is not a popular way of doing things, and that is to say they believe there was no crime. Instead, it focuses on a mother's increasingly delusion attempts to get justice for her son and the media sharks that fed this delusion. I think the problem stems from the fact that when a person dies, especially a young person, there is a lot of confusion as to what happened. This is coupled with the fact that in every country there is not enough money to sufficiently examine the death of every person. In this particular case, the initial investigators rushed to a conclusion that the death was accidental and suicidal without actually doing a thorough job. Then because the surviving spouse was a media figure, her actions were under more scrutiny than they would have been had she been a normal person, so that led to this gap where the family felt that the death had not been sufficiently investigated, and the ex was acting in a very callous way. Then the media jumped on the story and any chance of objectivity was lost. This is a very one-sided peace, but as I said before, I think it is now impossible to find the objective truth as to what happened.

Beware of crazy relatives
marinavilcu3 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you are getting married, be aware of the family you are marrying into. That is the bottom line of this documentary. This is a family that will say and do anything to prove a murder out of a suicide. The reason? Money? Perhaps... but I would go even further and say it was to get revenge upon his wife. Absolutely insane. Do these people hear what they are saying and think they are normal when they get up every day? From the start it was clear that the entire family talks like they are all part of some paranoid cult. If you've ever lived with or been extremely close with someone paranoid, you'll understand exactly what I'm saying. Just crazy.

Seriously, a documentary?
lolla-2177310 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First few minutes impression. A family grieving the loss of their son, in complete denial that he could commit suicide, blames the wife. Hello? She was not even around. She is a cougar, why would she kill her husband who is 10 years younger than her. It is not like he was cheating. I continued watching because I believed the end would have answers. It just stopped. No ending. No resolutions. No proof of murder. Nothing! How did this get a spot as a documentary on Netflix?

The parents are definitely delusional. What evidence they had so they can go on national TV and ruin a woman's life? They were just upset because she was trying to move on with her life. Oh! She is guilty because she was posting pictures on social media. Seriously?!

How Grief Can Literally Drive You Insane
mariya_mirabella13 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, its really strange that people assumed it was a simple crime documentary (as in crime investigation) and are not happy that it is based around Biodno family's quest to find a "killer" of their son. This documentary is much more interesting than a simple "whodunit" and is a study in psychology of grief and group insanity. The story is well paced and the progress of the inquiry is revealed as we learn about the depth of the Biondo's family delusion and their descent into a conspiracy hole.

I also started watching it thinking it would be an interesting story of a complicated criminal case - and it definitely started this way: a young mad dies suddenly, family are suspicious that it was not a suicide, like everyone seem to think. Mum, dad, brother and sister cried and I felt really sad and sympathetic at first.

However, I soon realised that the whole Biondo family have been driven completely bonkers by their grief - especially his poor mum. At the beginning, one could relate to their questions and grievances; but eventually it becomes clear that they all are really not right in the head. Their inability to accept that Mario died by his own hands (and probably by accident) - and, potentially, their desire for fame and notoriety created some sort of a group psychosis where they live in an alternative reality not guided by facts. I would imagine their insanity was also fuelled by all the people who exploited the story, all the nasty TV programs and crazy experts.

It is a sad but also revoltingly, compulsively entertaining story. The contrast between shouting, angry, irrational and somewhat mentally challenged relatives and calm, respectful and intelligent people trying to convince them that there is no conspiracy is very striking.

After watching this, I just hope there could be a way to protect Raquel from this nastiness, poor woman, she suffered enough. Also, hope Mario's family can get professional help they so clearly need, especially his mum.

Save Yourself
nhenry123 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Made it halfway into episode 2 and I'm groaning, as not a shred of evidence was produced to indicate this man had been murdered. My son wouldn't have killed himself and therefore his wife killed him is a big stretch. Crazy family that cannot cope with their son's suicide. When they are presented with empirical evidence? They chose not to believe it. Even their own private investigator couldn't come up with anything that showed Mario was murdered. So they decided not to pay him. Momma excuses his drug use and insists his wife must have killed him. This is nothing but 3 episodes of a grief stricken mother in serious denial. No thank yo.

Exploitation of a Sad Family
mrdrhw8 August 2023
The family of Mario Biondo is bitter and sad. They are delusional and whoever made this film played into that delusion. I am sorry for everyone involved. No one wins here. I am sure they thought this project would be a platform to share their side of the story but they end up looking unhinged and hateful.

I love true crime documentaries but this film doesn't really provide any in-depth analysis or new information. It just says "hey, look at these crazy people." I truly hope the widow has been able to find a small bit of solace and peace despite this family of loonies running around besmirching her character endlessly.

Crazy family spits anger
pedrommsc9 August 2023
What a waste of time. A delusional mother and family that thinks that they know what their grown adult son and brother thinks, do or not do in their absence.

Get real doing drugs is more comum that you think, have secrets, have intimate secrets.

Crazy people with no education with morals try to create a lie.

Even if theres the slight truth in what they say its just looses all credibility when they just live out of this sensationalists shows.

Pathethic documentary, this type of producers shouldn't be working in this industry.

And netlfix shouldn't finance this cringe worthy documentaries!!!

Parents are creepy
kriscity-7863910 December 2023
Absolutely agree it was a suicide His parents help no one with their wacked out theories of murder Documentary is really boring and his family is straight up unable to accept reality. His family offer zero facts, zero evidence of any impropriety, and drags out a documentary that should have never been made in the first place.

The wife of the suicide victim should sue his wacked family for defamation of character in order to stop the insane fabrications.

Very slow moving Movie does have picturesque scenes which is its only plus I also think whoever the makeup artist was for the sister should be fired Who thought that makeup would look good?

An Italian mother in denial
ecaterinasilistru2 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is the story of an Italian family in denial. They are so obsessed to deny that their son was a coke addict and a sex pervert that they lost 10 years of their lives trying to blame the ex wife instead of admitting that their son was a hot mess. The whole family is highly unhinged and should in my opinion be under psychiatric supervision. The Italian mass media uses their delusion for audience and this is repugnant. Also, there is little stress in this documentary on the fact that, if the family had proven Mario was murdered, they would have cashed a big insurance policy which might also be the motif of the mediatic mess they did. The only victim here is the ex wife whose only fault was to marry to fast into a sick family because she found a handsome but very problematic younger boy.

Disgusting operation
cousinscove779 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Quite disgusting operation.

The editing has been clearly made in a way to show all the declarations and the attempts -surely overwhelming and out of control- made by the poor family of the dead cameraman and then destroy them one by one presenting as purely delusional.

I'm not pronouncing in any way on the facts of the story. By the way, all the serious and more than reasonable objections and doubts on the story are accurately ignored: the focus is ALWAYS on the family and it's behavior, not on the death of the guy.

So, at the end of the day, what's, or what should be the sense or the scope to make a movie on this?! To shitstorm a poor family, no matter if right or wrong in its allegations? To point the finger towards the horrible media show around those happenings?

It's been frankly an astonishing vision.

A good one
enilix14 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great documentary. However, I think many people here had different expectations and missed the point of it, and thus gave it a bad rating. It's extremely obvious the docuseries was made precisely to showcase just how delusional the Italian family is, and not to support their stance. They ignore autopsy reports, experts, etc. Which prove their golden son had (accidentally or intentionally) committed suicide, and are just looking for that one person who will validate their insane conspiracy theories so they can tell everyone else "Ha! We told you so!". Oh, and it seems to be the mother who is the ringleader. We can also see how much the media and social networks can contribute to and feed their delusions.

Delusional mother can't accept her son died of autoerotic asphyxiation.
romis-herrera14 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Extremely bad. I can't believe the waste of time and money behind this "series".

Man turns up dead while famous wifey was in another city visiting family. Autopsy says he had alcohol and cocaine in the bloodstream, the best hypothesis is he died like David Carradine. Several autopsies (both Spanish and Italian) discard foul play, mom doesn't believe it and drags the rest of the family in her delusion that her son was actually murdered. Starts a crusade against famous wifey, the Spanish police and media. Gets scammed, also doesn't want to believe it. Judge rules the cauypf death as suicide, she still is convinced it's a great conspiracy from the media and the Spanish authorities. Zero evidence says otherwise.

The end.

Trash
danielcereto19 August 2023
As a Spaniard I gave it a try to this documentary to understand what really happened to Mario. The documentary is not what I expected it is more into the side of Raquel. It is paid and produced by the ex manager and Netflix. The subliminal message is too clear. Raquel is the victim, not Mario. Is it true? Mario is dead. Raquel is alive.

First, the documentary starts strong but fails on something really important: give to the viewer the opportunity to take his own conclusions. Soon and clearly you noticed that everyone is more into Raquel side, so it is not balanced.

Second, Mario's family look like they're all nuts. I don't like that. Probably, there are some crazy actions coming from them, but I didn't expect the treatment from the direction of this documentary.

Anyway, the documentary is watchable but not as good as it could have been. *Spoiler alert* Raquel barely participate here, so what is the real point? ...

What a mess
amalya_amy29 October 2023
I'm not 100% with the family but, BUT i saw all the documents and the photo and a suicide it's impossible. They also discovered some old messages between rachel and some dealers.. Why's that? If he was the droggy person? Also, they're not showing how tv shows in spain talked about something very bad that he could discovered back in the days and all of them was trying to protect her image. On the other hand, of course, I'm not ok with thehate that she received but again i saw some documents that here nobody is talking about. When the italian prosecutor was there to interrogate rachel, he was so pissed off because she was lying and refused to answer. The woman that discovered the body of mario was there too and she was telling a different hour just to make sure that at that time rachel was still on her way to the house. If you search the pictures of his body, more injuries was founded and there was a cable on the desk that the day after disappeared. Also, the injuries was not compatible with a strangulation. I am not pointing rachel but this was not a suicide.. Somebody did this. Also, the prosecutor asks who deleted all the tera from the memory of the pc and she said that she did that for her privacy and nobody else touched it.. The prosecutor shows her that the wi fi was connected days after mario s dead where her brother works and he is a professional it.. So, why's that?

Funded by Raquel and one sided
OneAnjel4 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was so impressed that Netflix had voiceovers instead of making me read all the Italian and Spanish that I was halfway through the 2nd episode before doing a little research on this film - because it was starting to feel extremely one sided and painting Mario's family as some perpetrator. Clearly, Raquel knows much more than she's saying since there no denial that she deleted large amounts of data from Mario's laptop and cell phone yet left the alleged porn there for police to find. It makes the idea that someone impersonated him at the brothel seem credible as if to point towards dark sexual fantasies. Unfortunatly, unlike with murder where police say there must be means, motive and opprtunity no such application is used to say one could not have committed suicide. Yet based on psycological protocol, Mario was not suicidal. Sex game death is so easy to claim because it's so hard to prove or disprove. But its not suicide, at least not in American law. Here, suicide refers to only intentional death; accidental death is a separate category that includes accidental choking during sexual asphyxiation. It's a mystery since while Mario had no clear reason to kill himself and had no prior association with sex games, Raquel also apparently had no reason to have him killed. So the idea of the cover up of an accidental death does make sense to me even though this is not taken seriously on this one-sided film. If Mario's family is stalking Raquel, they are making it harder for themselves since that only accomplishes making them look unstable. Yes, a family can have a lot of difficulty accepting a loved one's suicide but also a mother's intuition is practically from a psychic realm. I hope someday the truth comes out. Raquel does seem to know something she's not telling or why destroy evidence?

Terribly done true crime
jimacosby20 August 2023
I am part-way into the third and last episode and can already say this is trash. It is clearly avoiding basic facts and legal conclusions that would no doubt eclipse 99% of the arguments of the deceased's family. Instead, the vast majority of the show is letting the family of the deceased rant and rave. Even if they are right (and I doubt it), it is inexcusable to let them rant and make wild accusations that were probably already refuted by the official investigation.

For example, was there extreme trauma to the guy's neck? No? Any drugs in his system besides the cocaine? No.? Case is over. One episode.

On and on, simple scientific facts, like time of death, as one example, would preclude much of the ranting.

Totally false
lallo-216 November 2023
The story depicted is purely fictional and totally invented. The evidences from judges and witnesses tells another path.

It is a big shame for netflix to change the truth.

Despite the points described and the details shared, the truth is different.

From the beginning there are so many elements that combined together show contradictions and false reconstructions.

What are the reasons behind that fake?

The scenes and the interviews are good if only considered fictitious and generated by the fantasies of the authors.

Please note that my comment does not revealed any part of the show or spoils the end.

Mamma mia !!!

Warning: Spoilers
It's not a documentary about what happened, suicide obviously, but about his family not able to cope with this. They are simple people but able to make a lot of fuzz and terroize the widow ang her family. And grieving or not, they are or became horrible people... It is also about nationalism Spain/Italy. Modern life with drugs, porn, s-experiments etc. I liked the fact that they make it seem like a whodunnit but show a family losing it. Especially the mother is psychotic, not hyperbolic but realy psychotic. This seems obvious to me and i really can't understand why people take her seriously or pretend to do so. Pure sensationalism! What a horrible world we live in...

GREAT JOB!!
Cristiano_Repupilli18 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
GREAT JOB!!! ..of MANIPULATION I mean, of course.

Go and watch the amazing work of investigation (BUILT ON EVIDENCE) that has been carried out by the Italian show "Le iene" before making up your mind. Too bad it's only in Italian as far as I know.

I wish there was an Oscar for good journalism...

Only after that it becomes obvious that the mini series (oh... that has been produced by a close friend and ex manger of Raquel ...opss) has the intent of throwing smoke in the eyes of the audience. No wonder I read posts entitled "crazy/delusional mother"... It worked perfectly, that was the intent.

Thumbs down to NETFLIX 👎👎👎👎👎

After having followed the case for years I'm also quite shocked to discover how bad Spanish justice system is and the lightness used to carry out the so called "investigation"...
