Dull and Negative
chax-1492414 February 2024
The movie goes around a couple who were in a relationship for six years.

Good to see #SeanRoldan getting good projects and he's peaking as one of the promising music directors in the industry now. Felt songs and background score are apt to the movie. Had good musical vibe watching in theater. Happy for him.

Director #PrabhuramVyas has good potential as a writer and director.

#gouripriya and #Manikandan acted well. Because of their performance the movie sailed without boring.

I didn't get that depth of a six year's relationship, the director picked couple of random incidents that questions the trust, loyalty, possessiveness , being control freak attitude etc.

Manikandan gets into a gang of boys to consume drugs whereas Gouri too has a gang to freak out with girls + boys.

I kept thinking that director must have kept one or two girls in Manikandan's gang as well if so how Gouri would have taken it.. This layer is missing in the movie.

Overall a decent watch. It made me remember movies like Bachelor, love today - Radhika's advise/guidance to Pradeep when he was on the verge of a breakup is the apt advise for the Gouri - Manikandan pair as well. Could have been a bit more humorous and entertaining.

Excellent, well-written drama revolving around a toxic relationship
cableanna27 April 2024
"Will you ask your mother to give your father one last chance?" Excellent, well-written drama revolving around a toxic relationship with great performances by the cast and good music. The guy is so toxic and such guys do exist. But the film does not glorify his toxicity and gives us an idea into what led this guy to be so toxic. He doesn't see the error of his behavior even after being called out on it as well as after discussing it with one of her friends and being laughed at. He appears completely different in his memories of their 6 year relationship. His insecurity and over-possessive controlling toxic behavior was giving me a second hand embarrassment. The girl was right about him and his cheap mentality. He himself destroyed the love they had. What an idiot. I loved the ending. These 8 stars are for the rest of the film that follows the line in quotes above.

Looks very candid n realistic!
UmeshAditya3 April 2024
This entire movie appears candid n realistic. The first half of the story revolves around complexities in 6 yrs relationship n the second half about the breakup n the process of trying to get a closure. The last 20 mins climax is indeed appealing. In most of the relationships around us, one starts thinking it's responsibility of the other to keep me happy but in reality nobody would take that responsibility which is rather more like getting the other burdened n that's when both let each other down n start suffocating. May be rather relationship should be about companionship where there is mutual respect n an ease of comfort to be with each other being devoid of dependency. Also sometimes breakups are inevitable n better than making going tough for both everyday. Unfortunately breakups are the toughest n most painful thing one can ever go through n only one who has gone through can vouch for it. Available in all South Indian languages along with Hindi in Disney Hotstar. My ratings 7/10!

Take a bow to PRABHURAM VYAS...!!!
PANDIAN12062127 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Director Prabhuram explores the untold story of toxic relationships that prevail in the society commonly that can be debatable when comes to gender biased & half of the film succeeds with this plot...The practical magic he does in the climax earns success and respect for his thought process

Divya has clearly shows some matured performance & handling the emotional counterpart with straight forward determination that brings confidence in every working class woman...she must be a upcoming star for Kollywood indeed...On the otherhand Manikandan steals the shows with various expressions at regular at regular intervals especially his frustration counterpart elevates the plot to a new level....

Sean roldan gives a breezy music that keeps you travel along the character and his melancholic numbers strikes the chord at right times...

The whole concept is about Alpha's need to be supportive in terms of "FREEDOM" while women needs to have tendency in handling them without ego...

Overall the film morality is a must for current society as "Understanding & Empathy don't need to come at the cost of loosing self-respect "

Heavy film, but worth watching.
TreeFiddy5328 March 2024
Heard good things about the film, despite its serious take, and had been looking forward to it and I had to check it out.

Arun (Manikandan) and Divya's (Sri Gouri Priya) have been in a six-year (on-and-off) relationship but have been slowly drifting apart. The entire film is about this divergence.

Usually, you'd expect a soup-boy (if you know, you know) story or an Irugapatru-type film that addresses something different but has a predictable ending. This was....different. Predictable, but I found the topics that this film chose to address to be...not for everyone. And therefore, the film itself, not being for everyone.

Movies about break-ups aren't new but the way they're told have been generic. This one addresses 'drifting away', not being to let go, almost redefines toxicity (stuff that the Boomer generation would scoff at and say "You're leaving your partner over this!? Suck it up!") for this day and age.

Both Manikandan and SGP were really good in this film and so was the supporting cast. Camerawork + Music (Y) but, in my books, not wowing. Writing - best part of the film.

You would have either seen this film unfold in real life around you or perhaps been through the events that transpire. If not, depending on your age demographic and experiences, you're going to either dismiss it or say 'I see where these issues are coming from...doesn't mean they're right...but there seems to be a larger problem. I can sympathize with them both.' Some may even find this therapeutic and gain new understanding, but regardless, this is a heavy film, could be hard to watch in parts, and isn't for everybody. Worth watching still.

Growth Through Depths - Lover Story
kamlesh_may1112 February 2024
The movie perfect connections, leaving an indelible mark on the audience, one that stuck long after the credits rolled. Performances weren't just recited lines..they spilled out like heartfelt confessions, hitting you right in the feels. The storyline delved into personal insecurities, toxic relationships, dysfunctional family & deep-rooted trauma, resonating with viewers on a deeply personal level.

The background score, music, dialogue & cinematography were like gifts from above -blending seamlessly to create an experience that felt like a warm embrace for the soul. This film wasn't just a feast for the senses..it was therapy wrapped in cinema, offering solace & understanding in equal measure. It's a cinematic journey that's not to be missed!

A beacon of enlightenment for those seeking deeper meaning in the art of storytelling.

Hats off to the creators and the entire team behind this cinematic gem.

Story of a Love Seeker not a Lover
harshitgunani5 April 2024
This movie is focused on the struggle of the relationship of a couple whose honeymoon period of the relationship is long over and now the boy is in a bad mental state and keeps on doing wrong things and yet fails to accept complete responsibility for his actions, play blame game, is emotionally dependent and stuck in his life due to his financial condition and relationships. Whereas the female counterpart takes her time in deciding to get out of the relationship and how.

This man actually needed some help from a mental health expert but the movie makers think that one day such a man can just decide something/ awaken and change his life.

the ultimate goal of love is to accept to let it go
karanwittier9 February 2024
This Movie Broke my feelings after many years, with heavy heartedness I'm typing because in some of the scenes i would feel my tears that were hidden inside, felt not like drama that was actually seeing the relationship in front soo surreal i forgot for a while that, that was just a movie that's the way screen play was carried out, the last Bye from Arun and the way crumbles was served at end, Arun character was top notch in graph, Divya charac was best in tolerance, Arun Moms charac made fruitful purpose to the story that arun friend, Divya friends and office colleague are well placed in story with zero fault, Director had taken his best call and made the film in own way of style as he wanted to be, See I'm not forcing you to watch the movie and I don't even care if you had watched and don't like the movie, but to the someone in the corner who is broken and overcoming the love they are committed, hey you watch this will relief you for sure, the ultimate goal of love is to accept to let it go, actual trendset.

Both of them why separated
tejashangarge-704906 April 2024
Bro why are you seperate them... Yaar don't make this type of movie... If she won't lie to her boyfriend So he was not misbehaving with her...she is lied with him...just bcoz of this he treated she like a misbehave...Granted he had lied to her too but he had no other option to tell her the truth... but if she lied to him the way she lied, any relationship would suffer this... Sorry bro but don't lie in relationship... Nice movie I had never watched this type of movie.... Let's keep the truth in relationships as much as possible. If you do this, there are chances of the relationship to last. Don't lie each other...

Refreshing take on relationships
raj525127 March 2024
"Lover" is a refreshing take on relationships. The lead actors deliver strong performances, especially Sri Gouri Priya. The soundtrack by Sean Roldan is a real highlight, adding emotional depth to the story. It's a great choice if you're looking for a thought-provoking drama that explores the complexities of love. Prabhuram Vyas makes a worthwhile debut! [+63%]
arungeorge1327 March 2024
Lover has some poignant individual stretches, but it still doesn't hit as hard as it could have when perceived as a whole. Part of that blame goes to the writing, and to an extent, the music. Sean Roldan's work is both a plus and a minus. It works in certain portions where dialogues are absent and the director chooses to show and not tell. On the flip side, it also paints a sympathetic picture of Arun (an excellent Manikandan) in scenarios where he's clearly in the wrong. The red flags keep flaring up, and given it's a recurring element, you already anticipate things going south whenever he's asked to be social, such as attending a party or joining a trip.

Sri Gouri Priya does a good job as Divya, Arun's lover, who finds it difficult to deal with his (frequently increasing) levels of toxicity. But, she's also painted in a shade of grey or two at least, especially in certain decisions she consciously makes. This, coupled with the sorry tunes from Roldan which lend an "oh, poor guy!" perception of Arun at times, makes you want to disconnect from both the protagonists and view the proceedings objectively, at least for a little while. But that's only until we get to know some of the supporting characters better, and the more we understand them, the more I find myself siding with Divya's harsh but practical take. The ending is very cinematic; almost like a Gautham Menon flick - never happens in the real world, but works as "closure" for this particular story.

Toxic movie
ragasree-0728311 February 2024
One of the WORST movies ever watched. Getting a question how toxic the masculine gender was portrayed in the movie. A cheap unmannered antagonist was portrayed as hero. Are they promoting abuse as love? Violence, curse words, and blackmailing cannot be termed as love. That's purely ABSURDITY. Alcoholic man with zero self control is hazardous to the entire society. This shouldn't be accepted as an mood swings or possessiveness. Female lead character was also equally insane. Why the director wants to script female as a selfless, self respect less, sacrificing soul? Here there is an another example, where the filthy make behaviours where concealed and normalised even justified under the self respect of a working women. Never expected such a worst script from Manikandan. Disappointing.

A movie to be etched in the back of my mind forever
jarahul-5143413 February 2024
The movie portrayed how flawed a human can be but yet a good person at heart and find love, but only for it to crumble because of those flaws.

Not just that but also how the character grew up realising it at the end was awesome. I would have loved it if director had given more screen time to show character developments instead of just fast forwarding it at the end but I'm guessing it would require an another one whole whole good movie.

Its Been a long time since i watched a realistic and most natural love story in tamil cinema for while, giving hope for me as a tamil cinema audience and to watch out for upcoming great films like this.

LOVE IS A BATTLE, LOVE IS A WAR, LOVE IS A BREAKUP, LOVE IS GROWING UP.
pratikbal-9938931 March 2024
As an avid movie watcher, I was eager to watch "Lover" (2024), streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and available in 5 languages. Directed by Prabhuram Vyas and starring Manikandan, Sri Gouri Priya, Kanna Ravi, Geetha Kailasam, Harish Kumar, and Saravanan, "Lover" tells the story of Arun and Divya, a couple whose drastically different personalities are connected by their fondness for each other. Dating each other for six years, they find themselves at a crossroads as insecurity and possessiveness threaten to split them apart. The plot revolves around a toxic relationship with a realistic portrayal. Can these two lovers, a young woman who wants to be independent and a boyfriend who is insecure and possessive, manage to remain together?

In a world filled with movies portraying "toxic" relationships, like "Kabir Singh/Arjun Reddy," "Animal," and more, "Lover" stands apart. It delves into the complexities of Arun and Divya's relationship and breakup, offering both perspectives without judgment or bias, making it a refreshing take on love and heartbreak, allowing viewers to draw their own conclusions.

Just watched the movie and loved it, especially the climax. The movie forges perfect connections, leaving a lasting impact. What a fantastic performance from Manikandan and Gouri Priya.

Throughout "Lover," Prabhuram Vyas gives us variations of the opening scene - the fighting, the drinking, the gaslighting, the warning, the apologizing, the patching up - and keeps us engaged with the push and pull of this relationship at a crossroads. The writing tries to be truthful, reflecting the mindset of contemporary 20-somethings when it comes to relationships.

We see this in Divya, who loves Arun but has to make decisions that preserve her identity, even at great cost. We see this in her friends, who want to protect her but also let her make her own decisions. We see this in Madan (Kanna Ravi), Divya's new teammate, who finds himself drawn into a clash between two lovers. We also see this in Arun, who, for all his flaws, realizes the error of his ways and turns over a new leaf.

The sub-plot involving Arun's parents not only humanizes Arun's nature but also shows how even older adults are all at sea when it comes to dealing with relationship issues.

Kudos to the creators and the team behind this cinematic gem. The director has taken his best call and made the film in his own style. To someone in the corner who is broken and overcoming the love they are committed to, watch this-it will surely offer relief. The ultimate goal of love is to accept to let it go, a true trendsetter.

LOVE IS A BATTLE, LOVE IS A WAR, LOVE IS A BREAKUP, LOVE IS GROWING UP.

This is a psycho story
vampireramm28 March 2024
This is not a love story. Worst storyline. Very very toxic movie. Lot of boozing and smoking. Worst movie no place for comedy, no romantic scene. Worst movie. If this movie is liked by many people then it is really shocking, not able image about their mind set. Not even a single scene to remember. Still shocking how director perceived the story line and how he narrated. This is another form of Arjun reddy. Heroine has acted very well. Manikandan should stick to writing. His expressions are "stock" expressions same like good night movie. He is not a lover boy. Totally this is worst movie. Fortunately I watched it in Hotstar didn't waste money as I predicted when I saw the teaser.

To all the Aruns in the world
chota-781742 April 2024
This movie will touch the past life of so many Aruns who have moved on from their true love and seked the true meaning and purpose of their existance .. some Arun realise self love and some fall into the trap of self hate...for all those who fell in love with themselves this movie is a master peice that communicates the exavt same feeling and they have also splendidily the depth of the pesons true character. I personally loved the last fifteen minutes where the heroes body language changed after the girls compares him whith his father.

Throught the movie he yells at her but never showed the real anger but when talks about quiting smoking and the reply that he gave is the real anger and thats when she realised that he has really moved on .

Very real! Beautiful and raw.
anviupadhyayrocks8 April 2024
There are lots of people going through this.

Modern society is currently facing the independence of women and the end of misogyny and patriarchy because of which so many men and even women are unable to cope up with the change. This leads to high male ego in some men. This movie really spoke a lot about curing the inner self conflict first before committing with someone else because hurting your partner is never justified.

Alcohol is so much stronger than the grass. It gets people so violent. How is it not banned? So many husband's are doing domestic violence after getting drunk!

Such a real movie! Indian crowd really needs to grow up if they didn't understand the complexities of this film.

An impactful film with its core set on an unlovable protagonist going on a redemption path by pure luck - You will either love this film or hate this film!
Vetrrich_Chelvan30 March 2024
'Lover' tells the tale of Arun, a recurrent bad decision-maker, apparently an alcoholic, stoner, and chronic smoker, who is aggressively in love with Divya and expresses his love through constant psychotic tantrums, pushing, shoving, and, verbally abusing her. Before you could judge Divya, who is traumatized by his actions for six years and still gives him multiple chances to prove himself, the director, Prabhu Ram Vyas, makes it clear that the story is about Arun and we don't get to see Divya's world completely. Arun, being an incorrigible character, is stuck in a cycle of mistakes and misery and we, as an audience, are asked to tolerate him for the first 1.5 hours.

If you made it to the second half of the film, here is your award for the patient man on Earth. Because now you have entered the accidental redemption arc for Arun which is only necessary, or no one else will watch this movie. The whole arc continues to test your patience, with Arun being 'Arun', still not getting it that Divya is not his pet. I wish I entered the screen to knock sense into him, but Divya thankfully does that in the last ten minutes of the film, which I wish she had done before. Lover is raw, and real, and depicts the common tale of women who lack self-esteem falling in love with miserable stoners, whose perception of what life is' is subjective to what drug they have consumed that day. My heart goes out to all Divya's in the world. May you rest in peace at least in your death.

Nonchalantly, Vetrrich Chelvan HOTSTAR290324.

Disappointing Dive into Toxicity
sevenheavenus27 March 2024
This film falls short on multiple fronts, starting with its protagonist who embodies a new low in on-screen heroes. Not only is the lead character visually unappealing, but their toxic behavior throughout the narrative is downright repugnant. Viewers are subjected to a relentless display of ugliness, both in appearance and personality, leaving a sour taste that lingers long after the credits roll.

Instead of offering redemption or growth, the hero's actions only serve to perpetuate a toxic cycle, devoid of any meaningful resolution or redemption arc. The lack of depth in character development further exacerbates the film's shortcomings, leaving audiences struggling to find any semblance of empathy or connection with the central figure.

Coupled with a poorly executed plot and lackluster performances, Lover fails to deliver on its promises, ultimately leaving viewers feeling disheartened and disillusioned. Save yourself the time and disappointment, and steer clear of this regrettable cinematic misstep."

Can't believe people are still making movies that glorify toxic masculinity
zakariya-781651 April 2024
This movie is about a toxic relationship and how a relationship shouldn't be. The protagonist is so toxic in this relationship and how he keeps on gaslighting his poor girlfriend. You would think that maybe he tries to change himself and become loving, but the character gets more toxic. After a point, she just gets bored of him repeating the same thing. I can't believe writers/directors are still writing such low-effort masculine toxic stories and making movies, portraying them as divine love stories. I kept checking Google to see if this movie really got a 7.5 rating on IMDb. Now I realize that it is all rigged.

You will start to hate male character
mdaftab-868783 April 2024
This movie could have been good but I really started hating male character and it keeps getting worst and worst , some of boys and girls can relate them wthi this kind of character

But overall movie in not that gooD, if u have dot have any much to do in life then u can watch this movi.

M

But i liked female character , Director could have try something like very Shaadi mein Zaroor Rana, that movie was overall good like at the end you get the satisfaction right but in this movie, I didn't feel like I got the satisfaction, I was expecting something more from this movie, but I don't know. I didn't get that feeling. Even in this movie. They could have tried good scenes that also not that good. So overall you can watch movie kind of if you don't have anything to do, but kind of okay, okay movie.
