Compelling, but...

Warning: Spoilers
This season has been a bit uneven for me. After the first episode of the season we had to take a few weeks break because it just didn't seem to mirror the quality of the previous seasons. But we gave it a fair shot and have found some of the storylines interesting enough to hold our interest.

This episode felt a bit all over the place. First of all, if there was an explosion that wiped out the side of a building on Mars it seems like there would be no survivors instead of what happened. Especially since there were no pressure suits available.

Secondly, Ed's aging makeup is all over the place, this latest incarnation looking like a high school play. I know he's a main character and the like and the character has a grudge but his character is starting to really grate on our nerves and we're not finding a sympathetic string to hold onto.

Thirdly, I don't know if the character is poorly written or if it's poorly portrayed but the leader of the strike really feels out of place. The role doesn't seem convincing, and I don't know if it's because she's poorly written or if it's the acting. I know folks online like to complain about Kelly and Alaida, but I find them a bit more believable than this strike leader.

Watching this I feel like I'm watching Pre-Expanse activities without the production values of The Expanse. We'll finish out the season just to see what happens but it's not nearly as compelling as it used to be.

Wow that last line!

Excuse the vagueness I'm trying to keep this spoiler free as possible!

This season has had it's ups and downs trying to negotiate the aftermath of season 3, even seemed to loose its way at times with a few of the story lines getting turned on their heads. There is a certain character who upon arriving at Mars starts to set the record straight and proves their brilliant mind has not been idle. Their expert negotiation skills and ultimate aim for being up there are only revealed in the final few scenes of the episode.

However it's only when they visit Ed and we think the conversation is going to go one way, it turns a complete 180, like Mad Max busting a J in supercharged Interceptor. That final line and the look on Ed's face just sealed the insane direction this show is about to take.

I imagine if they ever did more prequel novellas for The Expanse this new story arc would have slotted in perfectly, it's one hell of a twist! Fingers crossed they pull it off!

Bypass a regulator and you're still the good guy

Warning: Spoilers
***************** SPOILERS ******************

"They're engineers". No. No they're not. They bypassed an essential component of a machine and caused it to explode. I haven't yelled at my TV like that in ages. This was broadcasted on Comms and not a SINGLE person said a word. Not the commander, not the XO. No one. To make matters worse, even though this was blasted on comms, NASA acts like their guys are the good guys. Maybe don't bypass something there to make the machine operate SAFELY?? And no this isn't some "Corporate bad, common man good" thing going on. None of that is talked about, NASA just fully believes their guys are blameless in this. Shortly after, we see the CIA rep speaking with the Administrator of NASA. The CIA says they should activate their asset to go Non-lethal Punisher on the base with a non lethal air gun. (Man I thought those "engineers were dumb"). The Administrator, quickly calls this idea ludicrous. You might be asking, "and what does he propose instead?". Well, reinvent the Pinkerton's of course! Toss their rooms! Find those rascals who intentionally made our saintly "engineers" blow (themselves) up! I turned off my TV after that. I'm done with this show. I suffered enough already with the whole Danny garbage last season.

  • an Engineer.

This is what happens to shows who prolong their existence waaay past their 'sell by' date. With this unnecessary final season, For All Mankind, which was one of the most creative and exciting TV shows that had a plausible alternate history, has devolved into a silly, cartoonish, parody of itself with ridiculous and improbable stories. And the departure of its best actors from the earlier seasons only highlights the limitations of its main lead, Joel Kinnaman, who in community theater, old age makeup gives one the worst, amateurish performances of his career. Add to that the new prominence of the characters of Eleida and Kelly, both of him are the worst examples of this new trend of weak, whiny, and self pitying young actresses and you're left with the shambling zombie of what was once a great show.

This final season is the perfect example of when the money for the creators was too good to say no.
