Cheers: Why Animation Works
fakeivan28 September 2023
When you told me Fionna and Cake would get their own series on HBO, I was skeptical. Usually, reboots or spin-offs can crash and burn spectacularly, but after 10 episodes and 5 weeks, I can say that this show is an exemplary light in the dim reality that is modern showrunning. Cheers is an amazing example of the culmination of what makes Fionna and Cake work. The world, the characters, the comedy, and the drama makes the whole experience worth it, even to someone who has not seen the original Adventure Time series. Simon's conflict with moving on after Betty was incredible, and the idea of using two new characters that are seemingly non-important to show how their relationship didn't work was genius, and Fionna choosing to fight for the world she already has after detesting it in the beginning was great character development. I really hope we can get a Season 2, and with the writers guild reaching a compromise, this reality seems more and more possible. All in all, Fionna and Cake is what happens when people with bright ideas and care for the source material work on something for the fans, and it gives me hope that this will set a new standard for not only animation going forward, but the entertainment industry as a whole. I also liked the gays.

An amzing conlusion to an amazing series.
giuliobalsamo28 September 2023
From the beginning to the end, Adventure Time Fionna and Cake, has been a perfect and amazing addition to the universe of Adventure Time, from it's beautiful animation, it's wacky characters the amazing story and everything else about it, this is an ending that i can say with confidence... a masterpiece.

I will forever repeat this, Adventure Time will never fail at giving me emotions, ( especially when i watched Together Again ), the way they can shift a story from kid friendly to a story full of depression, suicide, war, love and make you feel so many emotions while giving you these story lines, is something that was done right once, done right twice and done right here too.

I still can't fathom at how the first two episodes were so simple, childish, hilarious and unique and after the third and fourth, it shifts into another amazing and compelling story that teaches us so many things. This whole episode is what i wanted right from the get go, a finale that would blow me away and make me proud again at this universe's creation and that is exactly what i got.

In one single 26 minute sitting, you get the most mindblowing, intense and heartwarming episode Adventure Time has ever produced, connecting everything from the previous episodes and even the flipping finale of the original series together, mixing it with it's own spice and giving you a blast of an ending that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

I'd like to say more, but i feel like i'll ruin the experience if i do, plus, my review on the main page from when the series first released should say enough. Just watch this series and get ready for this amazing ending, i promise, you won't regret it.

Adventure Time doesent lose sight of what it is
Agent_Man4228 September 2023
Gonna start by saying that i was worried going into this. Adventure Time is truly like no other show, and they could've easily abandoned what made it so special for a wide variety of reasons. But they stuck to the end, with this wonderfully weird, vague, and oddly paced style to make (in my opinion) the best season. With Adventure Time clearly being in the right hands I hope we can get new content far into the future.

That said, one thing at the end was really dumb. Far from ruining the finale (even the very best animated finale has dumb stuff after all), but man they really should've left it out, the plot would've BARELY been affected.

A disappointing ending to an amazing show
geojanikoncitrousplanet9 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Fiona and Cake ending left me with a lot of mixed feelings. Before the ending, I would rate the overall series a solid 9/10, the final episode brings the whole show down to an 8 or even a 7/10 for me.

One of my most significant gripes with this series is that Fiona and Cake often feel like mere side characters in their own show, and this issue becomes more pronounced in the final episode. While Simon's character development throughout the series is compelling, it could have been handled more delicately. His rapid shift from his feelings for Betty after a single interaction felt somewhat unrealistic and diminished the emotional complexity of their relationship.

Fiona and Cake's motives come across as undeniably one-dimensional and rudimentary. Throughout the series, their singular aim of restoring magic to their universe remains glaringly simplistic, lacking the depth and complexity that could have infused their characters and storyline with more substance. Their journey often appears aimless, marked by repetitive arguments and interactions, which further underscores the limited nature of their motives. Unlike Simon, who is the only person who has any notable character growth. On top of that, their journey consistently took on an aimless quality, riddled with many distractions and arguments. In contrast, Simon emerged as the sole character who managed to earn genuine likability and exhibited a sense of sensible purpose throughout the series. Regrettably, Fiona and Cake, for the majority of their adventure, seemed relegated to the sidelines, almost like bystanders within their own narrative. This sidelining becomes particularly obvious in the final episode.

One of my main issues lies in the shallow character development of Fiona and Cake, which only truly begins to progress in the final episode. Fiona's realization that she doesn't want Simon to sacrifice himself is a sort an admirable moment, but Cake's character growth is next to none, and she primarily serves to create conflict for Fiona after her realization.

A major source of my disappointment stems from the unresolved plot points that lingered throughout the series. These unaddressed narrative threads represent missed opportunities for both character development and storytelling. For instance, in episode 5, we catch a glimpse of the Farmworld universe from the original series, where Farmworld Finn sustains a severe injury, yet by the end of the series his fate still remains shrouded in uncertainty. This lack of closure regarding Farmworld Finn, a character from the original series, left a noticeable void in the narrative that I was just hoping would be resolved in the ending. These unresolved plot points could have easily been addressed in the ending if instead of Jay and Little Destiny coming back, Farmworld Finn returned or even a dialogue from Jay that mentions his father.

Additionally, the final episode really shows the missed opportunity to delve deeper into the alternate universe versions of Finns. The lack of interaction between the original adult Finn and Fiona is a significant letdown for me and many viewers. We only adult Finn in the second episode, and the potential for meaningful interactions between the alternate universe Finn remains largely untapped. The closets the viewers get to any meaningful interaction between Finns is a 2 sentence throwaway dialogue where Simon explains to Fionafarm-world Finn is her. While watching the episode I was waiting for both Finns to appear in Fiona's world and help destroy the scarab together unfortunately this never happened and instead we get farm-world Finn's son Jay and Jay's girlfriend, Little Destiny gets teleported by Prismo to Fiona's universe without farm world finn or any of his siblings basically abandoning his family and give no consideration and avoiding any attention to it by using toilet humor.

One of the most disappointing factors for me is the Scarab Fight, which occupies a significant portion of the final episode. This climactic battle lacks the emotional weight and narrative depth needed to bring the story to a satisfying conclusion. Despite its extended duration, the Scarab Fight which mostly included Fiona and her friends distracting the scarab until the resolution, where Simon and Golbetty ultimately save the day with a dandelion containing their universe, and Fiona wishes for their universe not to be illegal, comes across as abrupt and confusing. It's as if the narrative simply shifted gears without properly integrating this plot element into the overarching story.

In conclusion, the final episode of "Fiona and Cake" disappoints me with its rushed resolutions, unresolved plot threads, and missed opportunities for character development and meaningful interactions. While the series had its moments, it fell short of its potential in its conclusion, earning it a final rating of 6/10 in my book. Overall the ending had left much of its potential untapped and unfulfilled and I and many others can only hope for a season 2 to fix these issues with the series.

Was great till the ending.

Warning: Spoilers
This was an amazing show, I loved every bit of it till the ending. The ending felt wrong and misplaced it needed at least a couple more episodes to conclude.

The episode started out great with a new animation style and story telling but as the episode progressed it felt like they had to rush it just to finish off the season the build up for the season ending with it being mediocre rushed mess. It was nice at the end of the episode seeing all the ways people lives have changed for the better but the scarab didn't feel like a villain and Golb Betty felt more like fanfare then an actual plot character, As well as Simon's arc to him finally knowing that he put himself before betty. All of it felt rushed just to get the season finished.

So with that i leave this episode at a 5/10 while the entire show is around 7/10 if only the ending was better.

Good until the ending

Warning: Spoilers
Boring ending, hyped it up just so it can have a mediocre ending, Literally made the main villain of the show a "villain" till the last episode which is quite silly, i feel like we didnt get to know a lot about simon till the last episode where we found out he was holding betty back. Then to add on to this, the ending was pretty lack luster didnt live up to my expectations,

But besides that everything else about this show was good, the characters, the storyline, the songs were also amazing and great, if only there was a season 2 and more time to show us more info about the characters, worlds.
