If not for the fact that some plot point don't make any sense at all. Even well knowing in advance that we're talking of a Fantasy/Sci-fi Space Opera so you can't expect hardcore logic to apply here. The annoying voice of the new member of the Yamato Crew (reminiscent of your stereotypical ecchi/hentai girl) at the start of the movie doesn't help either, but luckily as the runtime goes on her timbre changes accordingly. And what's up with the god-fearing phrases? I don't remember the praising of any kind of god in the 2199 series...

A perfect tie-in between SBY 2199 and SBY 2202.
This movie adds a whole new dimension into the relationship between the crew of the Yamato and Gamilas. It also moves the story of Gatlantis into a more believable arc.
Thus far the whole 2199-2202 SBY series has been better than the 1970s original series.
Enjoying this Space Opera very much.
Only the Live Action film was worse

I first discovered the original Yamato series as Starblazers in 1979 and I've been a fan since. The recent remake of the original series was spectacular so when I got this from Amazon - I was thrilled. Until I watched it. Only the horrible live action movie is worse than this. A horrible mish mosh of unrelated ideas, it's an attempt to force a story out of the Yamato's journey home after the defeat of Dessler. Unfortunately the story they went with - no spoilers - is dull and partially a repeat of better ideas from the original series. In the end this is quite dull and really just a badly done movie. Watch the originals and save yourself a headache.
