Decent one time watch... Script & editing could have been tighter
sanjubhat13 May 2024
Web Series Review: Murder in Mahim streaming on Jio Cinema!!

Based on a book by Jerry Pinto who incidentally was my teacher in school 🙂, Murder in Mahim starts off well with the brutal murder of a gay prostitute in a toilet inside Mahim station. As the body count increases, Inspector Jende ( Vijay Raaz ) is forced to forge an alliance with his estranged friend and retired reporter Peter Fernandes ( Ashutosh Rane) to piece together the clues and solve the mystery. Helping Jende in this case is rookie inspector Rabbani ( Shivani Raghuvanshi).

I have mixed feelings about this web series. The casting is spot on with Ashutosh Rana , Vijay Raaz & Shivani Raghuvanshi getting into the skin of their individual characters and performing well overall.

There are two storylines which run in parallel .The first one is the murder mystery which is very engaging. The second one is about challenges faced by the LGBT community in India. This gets a bit peachy & results in the narrative slowing down intermittently and digressing from the main plot . A tighter script coupled with crisp editing would have definitely made a stronger impact and conveyed both storylines more effectively.

To cut the makers some slack , the narrative which slows down somewhere in the middle quickly picks up pace in the last three episodes resulting in a decently showcased climax!!

Even with its shortcomings.. Murder in Mahim is a decent one time watch!! Had the potential to be much better though ... Some points to ponder for the makers if they plan a sequel in future!!

Going with 3/5 for this one .. Adios 🙂!!

One of the most striking aspects of "Murder in Mahim" is its portrayal of Mumbai as a character in its own right. From the crowded streets to the bustling railway stations, the city serves as both backdrop and catalyst for the events that unfold. Director Raj Acharya captures the essence of Mumbai with a keen eye for detail, immersing viewers in its sights, sounds, and smells in a way that feels authentic and immersive. Nice web series

At its core, "Murder in Mahim" is a story about the power of resilience in the face of adversity. As the characters grapple with their own demons and confront the harsh realities of life in the city, they discover strength they never knew they possessed. Whether it's Shivajirao's unwavering determination to solve the case or Peter's refusal to give up on his son, the series is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and its ability to triumph over even the darkest of circumstances. Not a good script...Not focused on the story
nilbiswas-8494527 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This series is based on a book with the same name as the series.

The series is completely boring as it focuses on the character more than the murders. The creators failed pathaticaly in maintaining the suspence of the murders.

The story revolves around the LGBTQ+ community and there problems. The story is based on mumbai.

The series can be finised in 4-5 episodes but I don't know why they extended it so much.

The series goes into the personal life problems of the police and other character also that make it very boring.

Giving it 7 star just because of the acting of the actors but I think Peter fernandise(Ashutose Rana ) can do better cause I have seen him doing better.

JUST A ONE TIME WATCH.

Average at best
viskies11 May 2024
The book was not the best work of Jerry Pinto and the series is a reflection of that. It has great actors like Vijay Raaz and Ashutosh Rana, but there is a limit to how much they can sweat the basic story. Shivaji Satam is completely wasted (a far cry from the powerful CID kind of roles you have seen him in)

While the focus is on Mahim, there isn't much of Mahim in the series. And the script meanders before coming towards the end to tie up the loose ends. LGBTQ is a central part of the theme, but that part is slightly overcooked.

If you find something better to watch, this is a good 8 hours you can save.

It's a must-watch for anyone who loves a good whodunit with a strong social message.......
anup-9607815 May 2024
I'm loving the way the series is exploring the darker side of Mahim, a place that's often associated with chaos and congestion. The cinematography is stunning, capturing the essence of the city's underbelly. The performances are top-notch, with the actors bringing depth and nuance to their characters. The plot is engaging, with unexpected turns and surprises that keep me guessing. What I appreciate most is how the show is not shying away from tackling complex themes like corruption and social inequality. It's a must-watch for anyone who loves a good whodunit with a strong social message.......

A poorly executed virtue signalling waste of time
invoguefresh12 May 2024
A web series made that does virtue signalling on issues that may not be an issue for a majority of the target population. It would still have been a good watch but the story is loose and execution is subpar.

I was able to sumarize my review of the web series in that first paragraph, but this platform requires the reviews to be at least 600 words so i had to write this part. Maybe the writers of the story/series also had a similar commitment and what you see is the result of them trying to fill up pages to make the story longer. However, that does not explain the impact less dialogues of the series.

Good web series
shushilgupta15 May 2024
Murder in Mahim" ventures into the realm of family turmoil, occasionally lightened by moments of subtle humor within its serious narrative. However, the series struggles to maintain its suspenseful momentum, ultimately faltering in its delivery of the murderer's identity. This pivotal reveal lacks the anticipated impact, with the portrayal of the culprit emerging as a weak point in the storytelling. If the adaptation stays faithful to Jerry Pinto's novel, then the disappointing climax, compounded by a problematic health-related twist, signals a departure from the source material's potential for nuanced exploration.

Slow Burner
sanjeevanwar12 May 2024
Anwar Says: Aren't you fade up with the similar stuff of same genre on OTT. Homosexuality, Article 377 and story of LGBTQ community have already flooded and this is a fresh entry. Based on the novel of Jerry Pinto's by the same name and it is a very slow burner. Since the director Rajesh Acharya has to shoot eight episodes, many side stories are simultaneously running. If you are doing binge watch , it would be a laborious watch.

On acting front, both Vijay Raaz and Ashutosh Rana are very much in their character. Acharya Ji tried to put some comic angels at some points, which were unnecessary . The sensitive issue of male sex workers has been raised but the narratives hardly humanise the cause and fails to generate empathy for them. Even the primary theme fades away in the parental conflict, shady twists and explaining other sides of queer community.

Not a very interesting watch on Jiocinema . But , the other releases like Yodha and Undekhi-3 are not worth spending relax time. So if you are not a IPL Fan , can give it a try for the actors.

MURDER IN MAHIM - A Disappointing Whodunit
nafeezu12 May 2024
This TV series is a lackluster attempt at the murder mystery genre, leaving viewers more frustrated than intrigued. The plot feels like a convoluted mess, with characters lacking depth and coherence. The storyline meanders aimlessly, failing to build tension or suspense. The acting is subpar, with performances that feel forced and uninspired.

One of the biggest flaws is the pacing; scenes drag on endlessly, and the narrative fails to engage the audience. The supposed twists and turns are predictable and fail to elicit any genuine surprise or interest. Additionally, the production quality leaves much to be desired, with sloppy editing and bland cinematography.

Overall, "Murder in Mahim" is a forgettable and tedious TV series that fails to deliver on its promises.

The preponderance of arguments that support LGBTQ beliefs may sometimes cause viewers to feel as if they are being subjected to a mundane experience.

Murder in Mahim

As a pivotal figure in 'Murder in Mahim,' Ashutosh Rana's portrayal of Peter Fernandes adds a layer of emotional depth and complexity to the series' narrative, elevating it from a mere murder mystery to a profound exploration of human relationships and the enduring power of love and forgiveness. As a retired crime journalist drawn into Shivajirao's investigation, Peter's journey of self-discovery and redemption unfolds with a raw intensity that resonates with viewers on a deeply visceral level. Rana's nuanced performance captures the inner turmoil and external conflicts that define Peter's character, offering a poignant exploration of identity, acceptance, and the search for meaning in a world fraught with uncertainty. Through his eyes, we are not only drawn into the heart of the murder mystery but also confronted with universal themes of friendship, loyalty, and the quest for redemption. As Peter grapples with his own demons and confronts his troubled past, we are reminded of the fragility of the human condition and the enduring power of hope and resilience.

Not captivating enough. Lacks the ability to hold attention for an extended period. Too many unrelated stories. The predominant focus on arguments supporting LGBTQ perspectives can sometimes lead to a sense of monotony for spectators. While the portrayal reflects their lives authentically, a more diverse range of viewpoints could enhance engagement and sustain interest.
