Is this the greatest Modern Family ever produced?
ryanjmorris4 April 2014
Modern Family is my favourite show. It's been my favourite show since I began watching it midway through its first season back in 2009, and it remains so to this day. Given, it may not be to the same level of innovation now as it was back in its first two seasons, but the writing is still so consistently strong, and even episodes that may not work on a comedy level are still loaded with emotion and strong character development. The characters of Modern Family are what makes this show work.

I was unsure about Las Vegas before watching it. I thought that maybe the writers had thrown in a new location in an attempt to breathe some new life into the formula, and overall, I doubted it would work. Then what a surprise it is to me that Las Vegas is a strong contender for the greatest Modern Family episode ever produced.

Whilst it starts off slow, this episode builds to a roaring crescendo, and it is possibly the funniest final act we've seen since season one's Fizbo (widely perceived as the best MF episode). Modern Family employs the use of misunderstandings an awful lot, but if they work as well as they do here, what's the harm in that? The chaos that takes place between the three connected rooms of the families is pure genius, and just when you think they've reached the final laugh, another one comes. And then another. It is simply fantastic stuff.

Modern Family may not be as strong now as it once was, but I don't think there will be a time where I stop enjoying this show. Sure, they have the occasional misfire, but what show doesn't? The fact that an episode of this quality can be sent out in Modern Family's fifth season suggests that this show is far from dead.

This is, for me, the funniest episode of Modern Family ever.

This is the best ever episode of Modern Family
jalpusch15 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is my favorite ever episode of Modern Family EVER! It is so funny! I love it! I especially like the following things. 1: Phil's magic trick. 2: Mitch/Cam spa visit. 3: Claire gambling. 4: The butler. He was so confused. It was hilarious! If you like Modern Family, you should watch this episode. I don't know why I liked it so much. It may have been the lack of the kids. I normally like them, but sometimes they can be a pain. But seriously, if you like Modern Family, you will love this episode. It's so characteristic of the show, and yet so original. Please watch it so you can enjoy it as much as I did. My rating is 10/10. If I could do more than 10, I would. I told my whole family about it. Just watch the episode, and I promise you'll like it.

Review of Episode and the other "review" here.
obaggins16 March 2016
The other "review" on this page, which attempts to claim that this Episode of Modern Family is plagiarized from the 'Ski Lodge' Episode of 'Frasier', is written by somebody who must be Culturally Illiterate. The Comedy Technique and Narrative Format of people going in and out of interconnected doors, with confusion and misunderstandings arising, is a Classic Comedic Technique known as a Farce. It originated in Classic Greek Theatre, and was perfected to hilarity, in French Cinema. 'Le Cage Aux Folles' is one of the best examples (Also adapted by Hollywood, in 'The Birdcage', with Robin Williams. For original American Cinema, possibly the best example of a Farce, is, surprisingly, the Sylvester Stallone film, 'Oscar'.) Pay no attention to the "review" on this page, by the person who believes that 'Frasier"....invented the Genre of Farce. That's nonsense. And the claim that the different levels of the hotel, in Modern family, being copied from 'Frasier', is equally absurd. That plot point has been used in Sitcoms long before 'Frasier' used it. Anyone who regularly watches Sitcoms, should know this. Modern family did not "copy" anyone, in using the Classic Comedy Technique of Farce, nor in using the different levels of luxury plot point in this Episode. It's a superb Comedic Episode, using Classic Narrative Themes.

The Best Travel Episode of "Modern Family"
kaisanikkanen29 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The adults of the family travel to a luxurious Las Vegas hotel. Phil tries to impress and join a secret, magical community; Claire attempts to win back money in the casino; Jay tries to gain access to the upper floors; Gloria wants to prevent Jay from seeing and buying a female dog butler; Mitchell meets an engaged ex-boyfriend (Langham); Cameron sneaks behind Mitchell's back and attends Langham's engagement parties.

The best "Modern Family" episodes are mostly those that connect the family members together. "Las Vegas" manages to connect the members by having them share doors to each of their rooms, which later results in hilarious trouble.

The episode starts off decent, introducing the story of the episode satisfyingly. Said episode is a good example of a story that evolves very quickly, as each of the family members' problems are mashed together during the episode's final minutes. While Phil is given a second chance to present his magical abilities, the dog butler interrupts his performance and drags Gloria into the trick; Mitchell unintentionally gives Langham access to the bath in his room, when wanting to surprise Cameron with the bath; Jay receives access to the upper floor, in spite of being interrupted by his family and their strange behaviors.

Every performance in this episode is fabulous. The episode concludes in a satisfying way, however openly, as Jay finds out that he has a room in the second upper floor instead of the one that he requested.

No camera guy In alleyway
dannyboy-6925314 March 2023
On the Vegas tv show. It said on the Goofs you see the camera guy in the alleyway. I watch it a couple of times and there was no camera guy in it. Doesn't matter the episode is still good and so is the show. To bad it's not on more often especially on the weekends. This show was really good and to bad it wasn't on longer than it was. I was in Vegas in 1997 a lot has changed since that show. With all the construction going on in the 1980s. I was there in November and weather was good but chilly at night but ok during the day time. Wow I can't believe you need so many words just to leave a review.

Las Vagas Episode (#5.18) a Rip Off of Frasier (#5.14 & #10.11)
televisiontelevision30 March 2014
Very disappointed - The last couple of seasons have been a letdown but this episode is a complete rip off of 2 Frasier episodes listed below. The writers really need to be more original. Maybe Frasier ripped the ideas off someone else - I don't know - but Modern Family need to call it quits if they can't improve the writing and stop the overacting by certain members of the cast

Frasier Season 5, Episode 14 The Ski Lodge

All there cast going through Interconnecting doors leading to the similar confusion/misinterpretations demonstrated in this Modern Family episode

Frasier Season 10, Episode 11 Door Jam Frasier finds out there is a different level (Gold) to the one Niles and himself are on. And once they achieve Gold level they're very happy until they find out there may be a Platinum level.
