- The mentally disabled characters in the film (Sophie is said to have autism) are portrayed as having a childlike mentality, speaking in slurred words and knowing only a very limited vocabulary, using children's crayons and having "tantrums". This might offend or bother some viewers.

- A disabled couple become pregnant, and their parents set up an agreement to keep the baby with its grandmother.
- Topics of pregnancy and miscarriages come up frequently.
Violence & Gore
- An agoraphobic woman appears to fall into some sort of panic attack when attempting to go outside. She falls to the ground and a neighborhood boy asks if she's "gonna croak".
- A woman screams and cries when confronted with the sight of a large transit bus. Later on, she is seen drawing an image of a woman in a pool of red liquid (presumably blood) in crayon. It is later revealed that the woman's mother was hit and killed by a bus in front of her.
- A girl is robbed by an older man and she collapses on the ground and cries.
- A woman has a heart attack and dies.
- Funeral rites are seen; people hold a ceremony for the death of a main character, and a closed casket is shown.
- A disabled man has what is referred to as a "tantrum", srceaming and crying.
- A woman having a miscarriage is discussed.
- A girl shouts at her disabled mother and grabs her arms roughly.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- A girl runs to escape a police officer and trips and falls in the mud. The officer turns out to just want to help her.
- Bernie's agoraphobia attacks may frighten younger viewers and are portrayed as quite upsetting to the child characters with her at the time.
- Sophie's heart attack is quite upsetting. She begs for her missing daughter as she dies. Bernie is later seen on the telephone crying as she breaks the news.
- Heidi has her money stolen from her, and upset by this, she cries on the ground. This might bother some viewers.
- The scenes involving the bus and accident with Sophie's mother, though not directly featured on-screen, are quite upsetting and might frighten younger viewers.
- Heidi repeatedly sneaks into casinos underage.
- In grief after the death of her mother, Heidi rubs red lipstick all over her face, crying and shrieking hysterically. This scene is very sad and might upset some viewers.
- The subject of miscarriages might bother viewers. A woman is seen with tears in her eyes as she looks at old baby clothes that were never used. A police officer laments on his wife's multiple miscarriages and explains that this led him to become a cop.
