Katie Holmes confirmed during an interview as part of the Kering Women in Motion talks at Cannes that multiple discussions have taken place about rebooting “Dawson’s Creek,” the teen drama series that ran for six seasons on The WB and made stars out of Holmes and her co-stars James Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson and more.

To put it into today’s world might tarnish it a little bit. It was right before everyone had a phone and social media and all of that, so there was an innocence that was there between the characters that was one of the things I think people liked about the show. ‘Instead of Vietnam, we went to Beckton gasworks. All we had to do was put signs on it and blow it up’
I received the script through my mail slot in New York with a letter from Stanley introducing himself: “Hi, my name is Stanley Kubrick. I’ve got this film I’m making about the Vietnam war and I wonder if you’d consider participating.” He didn’t say it was for the part of Private Joker, and I’d finished a movie just previous to this called Birdy. So when I read the script, I thought maybe he was asking me to audition for Private Pyle, because of the fragility of that character. But I was never sure, because Stanley never said.

Katie Holmes and her 10-year-old daughter Suri Cruise were all smiles on Sunday as they watched the Detroit Pistons take on the Los Angeles Lakers in Los Angeles.
Holmes, 38, wore a black, sheer top with blue jeans. Meanwhile, her mini-me sported a purple, floral dress with a pink cardigan and matching bow in her hair.
This isn’t the first time Holmes and Suri’s similar looks have been on full display.

Perhaps one of today’s rising stars in the world of filmmaking is writer/director Josh Boone. As of right now, Boone only has three credits to his name: Stuck in Love, The Fault in Our Stars, and All We Had (for which Boone only received screenplay credit). Of those three, only one has received a certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and yet on the heels of The Fault in Our Stars, Boone managed to leverage his success and attach himself to many high profile projects including three Stephen King projects (The Stand, Revival, Lisey’s Story), an adaptation of The Vampire Chronicles, and finally, X-Men: The New Mutants.

“La La Land” (Lionsgate) more than met its high-end expectations. It scored $855,000 in five theaters with an astounding per theater average of $171,000: beat only by “Grand Budapest Hotel,” opening against far less competition early in the year.
The critically hailed Hollywood musical already won Best Film from the New York Film Critics, and is primed to shine during the ongoing awards season. But part of any major Oscar contender’s profile is its popular reception. And it scored a huge initial audience response this weekend in New York and Los Angeles. Picture a pretty but world-weary single woman and her teenage daughter, both with no fixed address. Mom hooks up with one jerk after another; when things get too dicey to stay at one such guy’s place, she and the girl live in their beat-up car. The pattern continues until it doesn’t, “I love you”s are exchanged, and the pair drive off … Ok, it’s just down a road, not into the sunset, but still. Those aren’t spoilers so much as a warning that Katie Holmes takes some shortcuts in her unremarkable directorial debut, “All We Had.

There are passion projects, there are vanity projects, and then there are films like Katie Holmes’ directorial debut, “All We Had,” which is neither especially passionate nor especially vain, and is instead entirely offensive. It isn’t consciously offensive, mind you, and it isn’t offensive on social terms, either; it’s offensive purely as narrative, a breach against common decency and originality in storytelling. The French have a phrase for yarns like this: “Nostalgie de la boue,” yearning for the mud, in which the author consciously appropriates the stylings of society’s lower classes just to tickle themselves.

Asserting their independence, no matter what obstacles they’re forced to overcome in the process, is often a powerful way for many people to claim their own identity. While that journey is meant to be invigorating and beneficial to their freedom, they can also realize how important it is to have supportive relationships with people who honestly care about their well-being. That essential benefit of having a loyal bond with someone while searching for liberation is highlighted in the mother-daughter relationship in the new drama, ‘All We Had.’ The movie, which is based on Annie Weatherwax’s 2014 novel of the same name, marks Katie Holmes’ feature film directorial debut.
