Beautifully meditative in the crafting, but didn't draw me into that space so much as make me appreciate it

After killing his brother, a man wanders into the woods looking for a monastery which lies on the other side. On his journey he meets another man, who travels with him for a short time.

Delivered with a very meditative tone, this film is one that probably works best if the viewer is in the mindspace for it and is therefore able to do a lot of the heavy lifting themselves. There is surprisingly little dialogue here, and what little there is really seems to just exist to give us context as to the character and the situation; as a story this does limit the film, and in terms of a narrative it is lacking and pretty unsatisfying. That said, it doesn't appear to be trying to deliver in this arena, instead it is deliberately obtuse and meditative in all aspects. Technically this is very well done, with the music setting the stage, and the well crafted visual delivery done with a sense of space and time to the whole piece. Likewise the performances tend towards the enigmatic, supporting this feeling of thoughtfulness.

Personally it did not do much for me, as I felt more appreciative of it than really getting into the space it laid out, but if you are of the mind then this short is professionally crafted to deliver – but it needs you to be where it needs you to be, it is unlikely to help you get there.
