Homerun

Greetings from Lithuania.

"From A to B and Back Again" is the best what you could expect from "Homeland" and beyond. Excellent, breathtaking and simply the best episode in very good season 4, "From A to B and Back Again" delivers on full cylinders, makes the stakes higher, and puts a breathtaking ending. Everything as usual works here - acting, directing, editing, script - everything is true, realistic and on the same time intense and intriguing on highest level.

Don't miss the best episode in this season yet, and, oh boy, it will surely deliver us more.

A tense episode that really delivers

Warning: Spoilers
It looks as if it is time for Carrie to get young Aayan Ibrahim out of Pakistan; she hands him a passport in another name and thousand pounds saying everything is sorted. He just wants to get a few personal items before departing. Unfortunately he is seen and Carrie tells him he won't be able to get out as hoped; he has an idea… his uncle can get him across the border into Afghanistan. An attack on Carrie's house leaves him fleeing not realising she had set it up to give him the needed scare. He heads to his uncle, not knowing he is being tracked all the way. Meanwhile it becomes apparent that Saul hasn't arrived in the US as expected nor has the Pakistani agent he spotted in the airport turned up in South Africa… something is clearly wrong; as we knew but the CIA didn't. That isn't the only thing going wrong; the ambassador's husband has passed information about Carrie and Aayan to the Pakistani agents who are blackmailing him.

After a series of episodes with less action things really escalate here. The attack on Carrie and Aayan may have been staged but we don't learn that till after the event and Aayan's journey to his uncle is fraught with danger and all Carrie can do is watch pictures relayed from a drone. This journey ends with quite a shock as we learn exactly where Saul is and more importantly just how fair Carrie will go to eliminate her target. All this meant this was one of the best episodes of the season; the tension was well managed and the entire cast did a fine job. Once again when the episode ended I was left wanting to know what will happen next.

I was not expecting that

Warning: Spoilers
What a big twist at the end. I always thought Aayan is a kinda character that'll at least survived to the end of the season but I was wrong. it was a real shocker.

Back From Soap Opera Land
The title of this episode could be apropos. Looks like the writers have brought "Homeland" back from being a soap opera to a real spy drama. The question is, will it continue this way or will it revert back to a soap opera.

One thing is for sure. Whether this show is in soap opera mode or drama mode, the endings have nearly always been unexpected and dramatic.

Incompetence
pwvnxmdc27 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
How incompetent is the CIA in this show? All of them are complete amateurs. They seriously want to make us believe that a room full of analysts and operators is unable to remember in which car Saul and the big mean main terrorist are?

I'm just glad that god awful plot with that stupid kid is over. Carrie is embarrassing and I can't shake the feeling that everything would be easier and smoother if she simply wouldn't be around and let people do their job.

I really don't know why I'm sticking around. I'm just hoping this will find its footing somehow.

Quite poor
francogrex26 March 2021
This is getting worse and worse. The character Dennis is despicable. In addition, the Pakistani intelligence service is depicted as resourceful and competent while in reality it's exactly the opposite. Sad writing.

Nearly good, but so silly
schatel3 April 2022
This show is frustrating, it's trying to deal with interesting, complex issues and then suddenly turns into a telenovela and just loses all credibility, this episode and the prior are the most clear example of this.
