In the first episode of The Monday Night War: WWE vs. WCW, an in-depth series about Vince McMahon's (RAW) feud with Ted Turner (NITRO), we learn about how Ted Turner's bottomless wallet and competitive nature led him to stealing much of Vince McMahon's best talent from the 1980's. Eric Bischoff's approach to how talent should be handled and displayed was the dawn of a new era, mostly tossing aside the need for outrageous characters and gimmicks for a more real, grounded, adult approach to wrestling.
