Well Done

Creepy and effective. It sort of reminded me of a pool version of "Lights Out". Well done.

definitely more interesting as a short than as the feature
lee_eisenberg18 January 2024
Earlier this month, a horror feature called "Night Swim" got released, depicting a swimming pool inhabited by an evil entity.

It turns out that the movie was an adaptation of a 2014 short by the same title. Being only three or four minutes long, this version doesn't depict the whole backstory. Nonetheless, it's the better version. The story of an eerie swimming pool just seems more effective when it leaves things open to interpretation, as this does.

It's not any sort of great movie, but okay for the few minutes that it lasts. I recommend seeing this one before seeing the feature. And see if you want to venture into the pool afterwards.

Very short, but an interesting proposal

Fairly short and short, without much to explain, Night Swim is a short film that offers an interesting idea. After finishing watching it, you are left wanting to see more. It's not original, but it's a short film that feels fresh. When the woman suspects that someone is watching, that's when things get interesting. Of course there is much more to tell and luckily the production company Blumhouse decided to make a new version of this proposal in the form of a feature film to be able to delve deeper into the context. So Night Swim is in conclusion an effective and quick to digest horror short film that leaves you wanting more. My final rating for this short film is a 6/10.

VERY SCARY!!!

Warning: Spoilers
If you liked Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Scream, YOU HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING YET.

This is the scariest thing I've seen since I watched Winnie the Pooh (2011) when I was 3 and was so terrified, I had to be re-sleep trained.

I love horror movies, watch 'em all the time, but this one is, like, scream bloody murder, shield your eyeballs! I haven't screamed that much since that spider jumped into my shower!

I cannot remember the last time I had to cover my eyes during a scary movie, but this one made me hide my face in my jacket.

Also, this is not a super gory horror film. There's a little blood, but that's about it.

Kudos to the creators and all, but that was terrifying.

Also, what the hell?! Why'd you have to kill the cat?! NOT COOL!!

Horror illustrated - builds momentum FAST.

Warning: Spoilers
Very short short, but still an excellent watch - captures the horror momentum well and builds tension in a very short period of time. For those who like horror this is a short must watch that will remind you how good horror should be made and that it's still out there.

Pro's • Using pauses well • Leaving out the "foe" to imagination • Using an associative context (it's easy to draw connotations to a night swim). • No bad CGI.

Con's • Short (making it too short, even though the point came across) • The largest misstake is not showing the body drowned in the pool at the end - who she sees on land is herself drowned - so it makes no sense having the body disappear unless she wants to literally die - which you do not get the feeling she does.

End notes: Horror is about building momentum, it's "easily" done by using pauses and leaving out things to be interpreted (imagined) by the viewer. It is not a 9 because it simply is too short to clearly illuminate if it was a once off (which i doubt but can't rule out). Exspect to hear about Rod Blackhurst again - possibly keep an eye out for "North (2017)".

decent

A decent thriller who seems correct homework. The pool, the vulnerable single woman, the presence and its not comfortable identity. And, sure, the silent end. Nothing remarkable but proof , for a short-short film , of good craft. And, maybe, it is enough for a nice thriller who respects the basic rules of horror.
