Warning: Spoilers
If you blinked your eye, you missed a brief, cameo appearance by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, as a mourner at the funeral of a judge's wife, a victim of a drunk-driving accident. This causes the judge, a former mentor of Erin to go off on the deep end and become quite severe with those defendants before him. By show's end, he confesses that he has been wrong and Erin's suspense is lifted for disobeying superior orders and filing a complaint against the judge.

For a change, Amy Carlson has an opportunity to act here. She gets Danny involved with her co-worker's problem of the latter's ex-husband not allowing her to proceed with her life and that after their son following their divorce. If he were such an ardent Catholic, why did he submit to the divorce to begin with? Naturally, this becomes a life threatening issue and the guy is hauled for psychiatric evaluation.

Whoopi Goldberg appears in a take-off of Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito. She is essentially Goldberg here, by rattling off her lines and even shows comedic gestures in talking about the broken windows in minority communities. At least, when she won the supporting Oscar 25 years ago as Ella Mae in "Ghost," it was realized that the latter character had comedy overtones.

Feud goes public

This Blue Bloods story has a new and feisty City Council Speaker feeling her oats and getting into a feud with Tom Selleck over law enforcement policies. Whoopi Goldberg plays the Speaker and that part of the story ends in a confrontation at a public hearing.

Bridget Moynahan may start her own feud with the DA's office and the judiciary when her former mentor Judge Dakin Matthews issues a set of bizarre bench rulings that are completely out of character. She might get a legal conflagration going that will be impossible to put out.

Amy Carlson gets involved with her husband's job when she asks Donnie Wahlberg to look into a custody matter involving a friend. The divorced husband just will not let go and that could be disastrous all around for him, his ex-wife and the guy she plans to marry.

Guest stars Whoopi Goldberg and Dakin Matthews really steal this one from the regulars. Hopefully we will have more appearances from Whoopi Goldberg on Blue Bloods.

Whoopi Goldberg ruined an otherwise good episode.

I can't stand Whoopi Goldberg since she defended that jackass Michael Vick in his illegal dog fighting charges. Anyone who does that is a horrible human being. My suggestion to her is if she has a dog, give it to someone who cares about animals. She apparently doesn't. I couldn't stand to watch the entire episode because she was in it.

Wondering What the Producers Were Thinking
greg-beaulieu27 December 2021
A "progressive" who gets appointed Speaker of City Council is always going to be a villain in the Blue Bloods universe, so it seems like gilding the lily to cast Whoopi Goldberg in that role, as she is unlikely to be a favourite for much of the BB faithful. She does not disappoint, though it was hard to tell if she was delivering lines from the script of just talking off the cuff. Her presence drags this episode down so my score reflects that.

Can't think of a worse guest star than whoopi goldberg ... what a bag of crappola she brings to the table ... why bother since she is a nobody with an agenda ... i abhor black feminists that play the racial card too often as was done here.
