Vanessa Bennett saw her family murdered by a hammer-wielding stranger when she was 3 years old. On April 7, 2022, a Jefferson County jury found 61-year-old Alex Ewing guilty of killing Patricia Smith in early 1984. The result of the trial, following Ewing's conviction in August 2021 for killing three members of the Bennett family with a hammer less than a week after the Smith slaying, finally closes the book on cold cases that lingered for nearly four decades, in connection with the 1984 "Hammer Killer" spree of attacks in metro Denver, Colorado. Part 1 of this story aired in July 2022 and now presented is Part 2 from People Magazine Investigates.
