Girls do ... battle
kosmasp21 June 2020
And boys do like to watch ... while they do that. In certain positions and angles that is, that some may consider "sexist" I reckon. Having said that, the overall story is quite neat and really has some fine ideas. But it also is quite a mixture of feelings and an up and down when it comes to the vibe it sends out.

I guess this is supposed to appeal to teenagers more than any other age group. Powerful women in control, with a horny dog that watches them. A literal dog that is, that is not euphimism. The movie is really weird, but also kind of fun. It does not go extreme in any direction, which will be either good or bad for you, depending on your taste.

The songs used (credits) though are really good. Ok, maybe you will beg to differ, especially if you are not into pop I guess. I really liked them and had my head bopping to them. The cliches during the show were almost forgotten when the music began ... 13 episodes is also quite short, so there goes that

Battle Girls – Time Paradox
Tweekums11 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Yoshino Hide, also known as Hideyoshi, is an ordinary Japanese schoolgirl who isn't doing too well at school. One day she visits the local shrine to pray to do better; something strange happens though and she finds herself in an alternate version of the period of Japanese history that she had just been studying! In this reality the warlords are all women… in fact there are no men to be seen. The first people she meets are Oda Nobunaga and Akechi Mitsuhide; two of medieval Japan's most famous warlords. Oda; the senior of the two takes Hideyoshi under her wing and invites her to join her on her quest to find the legendary Crimson Armour which will enable her to unite Japan. To get the armour they will have to confront the people who have the various parts as well as other people who want it; including somebody from Hideyoshi's present!

I had feared this would be another 'girls fight and their clothes fall off' anime but despite the revealing costumes they managed to stay clothed during the fights. That isn't to say there is no nudity; although what there is was hidden by the steam at the hot springs or bath... at least in the broadcast version. The story itself was fairly fun and the characters were amusing although I suspect it is one of those series that will be forgotten after one has finished watching it. The gender-flipped history is rather fun although a quick check on Wikipedia will show that other details have been changed although this is justified within the context of the story.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
