Surprisingly good angel episode
KaitlinMMM3 February 2017
I generally don't like the angel episodes, but this one was very compelling. Nice back story, great guest actors--Alicia Witt, and Ian Tracey, and not everything is as it seems. the back story was complete with flashbacks to 100 years ago or so, showing exactly why Lily Sunderland was doing what she was doing. Alicia Witt was very believable as Lily and Ian Tracey also did a very good job as Ishim, Cas's old comrade-in-arms. The tension between Dean and Castiel is slightly annoying as Dean comes across as a bit hypocritical, but it was nice that the events of last episode weren't completely forgotten or treated as throwaway.

When the episode started i was just like ugh, here we have another boring ass angel ep with them being nerfed, but no, it made sense eventually and was dark (tho the atmosphere was not which was a shame), Lily Sunders was a badass i would sure love to see her more, probably won't tho.

We love Angels!..
hamidullahgenc15 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Supernatural is good with its flood of emotions, and only after them comes the action.

We care(d) about Sam and Dean not because of their good fight scenes or the way they kill / wipe off monsters on Earth.

But because they are human and they have a story that's constantly changing and adopting while it is confusing and refreshing at the same time.

More to it is that Angels, no matter how it seems, are of the backbone to this story.

Okay, we humans are important. But we know ourselves to be in our meat suits, not from outside, not to read as an outsider's reality.

With a decent look, we see the angels to be portraying the journey of humankind, not knowing what to do without the help and guidance of God as in the past they had been commanded to do certain things but they cannot function properly anymore. Not anymore, yes.

They act as if they are in marsh covered with clay trying to crawl out while God lets them pick up crumbs of manhood along the way.

So, this episode centers around this very story we were talking about. And our friend Castiel the Angel is of grave importance as he is the helper of Winchesters and we love him for sticking up in the presence of any matter. Yep!

Ms. Alicia Witt played her part so well. But Mr. Ian Tracey was even better. Verily, it would have been great for the Winchesters to see of him in the future. Maybe...

Castiel, you are slowly becoming a human. And the fact that you are not a human reminds us of the situation that we are humans and we are slowly becoming "humanoids." I back you up, Castiel!.. Smite our bad humor. (Not funny.)

The writers should stick with stories which necessitate good acting and horror rather than action. My point.

I give this episode a "8,8". Yes!

Here is a Verse on the matter of Angels from the Book my culture roots in:

"And when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am setting in the earth a viceroy, they said: Wilt thou set therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn Thy praise and sanctify Thee? He said: Assuredly I know that which ye know not."

The 30th Verse of the second Chapter called The Cow in the Gracious Koran.

Dean VS Castiel episode
huntzhanz7 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's cute how they argued like a cute couple in the car and Sam had to lamppost, stuck in the middle and be the mediator between the two. We all know how much Cass care for the Winchester but Dean was truly afraid of the "cosmic" consequences, that's why he was mad at Cass. But this episode is more focused on Cass and his angel issues, and Winchester brothers of course wanna help their beloved angel bestie.

Good plot, good plot twist, and also surprising to see Cass as a cold but pretty woman back in the days before he changed vessel.

All in all, enjoyed this episode that showcases the cute bromance between the Winchester bros and castiel!

Great episode, but
StarrlaG2 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Lily's eye patch keeps switching eyes! Lol. I love my #SPNFamily. It's sad that angels killed a little girl all cause they "thought" she was a danger. Info. Info. Info. Makes all the difference.

Not what I was expecting but a good average episode
curtiskeren11 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I normally like Angel episodes, (not that I like most Angels, most Angels are d*cks, as Dean would say) but it is usually very interesting to try and see the story from the point of view of an Angel, so far removed from regular human perspective. I especially like Castiel episodes, I always wonder what is going on inside his head and any chance to get a peek at that is a good thing in my opinion. I knew this was going to be an Angel episode before I started watching and maybe that was why I was slightly disappointed (Probably my own fault, I likely bigged it up too much in my head). To start with I was puzzled about why Dean was being so harsh to Cas, it seemed out of character to me, but by the end I saw it was a plot device to reinforce them sticking together through thick and thin even if they don't agree, but at the start it jarred. There were some good moments, I enjoyed the period flashbacks and Cas in a female vessel. I also thought the revenge story and twists to the plot were slightly shallow, but considering that the story was told in a single episode it was told pretty well. (I think the characters might have been strong enough to hold a 2 part story if given the chance but maybe the writers didn't have airtime for a 'filler' story). I also ended up feeling a bit bad for Cas by the end. The group hug scene at the end where the boys talk about how Cas has grown and stuck by them, came across to me as slightly condescending. And I realise that the open question of what he might do with the baby Spawn-of-Satan if he found it, is supposed to be a thought-provoking moral conundrum for us the viewers but with Cas not knowing what to do, I felt it made him seem a bit lost. He could have given it a firm Dean-style 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, as long as we have each other's backs' etc etc, but instead he just floundered. And I get the feeling that his character should be further along then that. So the verdict? Don't go into this expecting deep insight like S06E20 (The Man Who Would Be King) with its profound insight into our favourite angel, go into it expecting a modest but interesting revenge story that just happens to involve angels and a slight nod to Castiel's character development and you will be fine.

Another person is trying to kill Cas! oh noes!
CubsandCulture28 June 2021
I have had my fill of people seeking revenge on Cas for something he did prior to the show starting. I have also had my fill of prior stories just happening to connect to the current season's plot even through we haven't had seen connection prior. There are about 7 or 8 episodes that more or less fit this template and the only thing special about this one is the person seeking revenge has unexplained powers.

This is such a dull, predictable, lifeless episode.
