And thus ends the first (not sure if there will be a second) series of Mars. It ends with life, with the surprise discovery of life on Mars. Not the Tim Burton Mars Attacks! type of life, but ones found in minerals, but it's still life, and this brings much excitement on Mars and of course on Earth. The announcement reminds me of the story behind President Clinton's Mars on life announcement back in the 90s, when it was revealed, according to the diary of a high class escort lady, Dick Morris (Clinton's political consultant) told her that there may have been life on the red planet, just one week before the world knew about it!
We see one of the couples on Mars embracing with a celebratory kiss, and this leaves the plot open in season 2 for a Mars baby, the first Earthling to be born on Mars. Also, to cater for the spiritual needs, maybe missionaries from Mars Hill Church can set up a Mars Church planting outreach.
Talking about life, the after effect of the dour botanist's death door opening in episode five pervades the colony. Sadly six scientists and astronauts perished in this incident, so not good at all. How on earth the botanist could open the door without any security check to the outside world is inexplicable, but hey, it moves the plot along.
Also, I wish the Mars One astronauts all the best as they head off on their journey eventually.
