Cutting 'Doctor Butcher' (2016)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Fun interview with editor Jim Markovic who talks about his days at Aquarius Releasing where he worked with the famous Terry Levine. He starts off talking about how he got into the business and from here he goes into some great details on the making of DOCTOR BUTCHER, M.D.. In case you don't know the story, the film was originally titled ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST but the American distributor bought it, added some new footage to it and cut it down a bit. Markovic talks about the editing process as well as everything that went into the marketing of the picture. If you're a fan of the film then you'll certainly want to watch this excellent interview as Markovic certainly gives you a great idea of what it was like putting these types of projects together and getting them out to the public.

Warning: Spoilers
Editor Jim Markovic talks about his work cutting together the American theatrical version of "Zombie Holocaust" which was released under the much more gloriously lurid and exploitative title of "Dr. Butcher M.D." Markovic reveals that he first hooked up with distributor Terry Levine after moving to New York City. Markovic notes that Levene had a good sense about what was commercial and points out that 42nd Street back in the 1970's and 1980's was such a hostile environment that he had to carry a steel pipe on his person for self-defense reasons. Markovic also discusses how he had to cut in footage from an unfinished film by Roy Frumkes that was featured at the beginning of the American version of "Zombie Holocaust." In addition, Markovic mentions that the distribution outfit Aquarius Releasing often used actor Adolf Caesar to narrate trailers and TV spots for various movies. Worth a watch.
