Love is what it's all about, isn't it?

Warning: Spoilers
The episode opens where part one left off, a fire ball breaking through the window of a shop where the Atherlys are with Julia. Everyone runs out except for Julia who heard a voice crying out to her. Running deeper into the building, Julia is confronted by the vision of Eva Price claiming Julia wishes to join her in death. Murdoch rushes in and saves her of course.

The fire was part of a historical event: The Great Fire of Toronto in 1904 and some footage from that period is used in this episode. No one knows immediately how the fire started, but Higgins is walking around with a cloud over him as he recalls his discarded cigars. Could he be the culprit? Is he responsible for the Great Fire? Murdoch still hasn't heard from Scotland Yard and the Atherlys and remaining debutantes are all still suspects. But George is coming around to Samuel Bloom, to the point where he is offering Bloom money after his shop was destroyed. Plus George likes the idea of someone operating a garage to repair automobiles; and George will be a partner in the business of Crabtree and Bloom, Auto Repairs.

Julia is still suffering from guilt and even Brackenreid believes Julia might benefit from seeing a psychiatrist. Plus Brackenreid needs Julia's help in finding the killer, perhaps a serial murderer.

Lady Atherly is in her glory as she has married her daughter off to Rodney Strong, and is counting the future money bags in her sleep and in waking hours as well. But Julia is a bit bothered as the Atherlys keep insisting Julia saved them when Julia knows she did nothing. And Murdoch sees them as opportunists who have moved from possible penury to wealth; and maybe escaped a scandal in England with shades of Lady Chatterley, since Elizabeth Atherly was having it off back home with a gardener.

Yet a third debutante is murdered, Erma Fairhurst, but why? Strong is married so that motive can be removed? Was it ever even a motive? One can only say poor, poor Strong. Be very careful whom you marry, especially if that person shares the qualities of a sociopath.

A good episode with some fun twists. It even concludes on a hopeful note for all the main characters: Murdoch and Julia will buy the land to build their house; Crabtree has his name on what could be a profitable business; and Higgins didn't start the fire, it is attributed to a faulty stove. Is it possible our team will enjoy some well-deserved happiness? I doubt it.

The Great Toronto Fire a real historical event is the backdrop to this episode, bravo!

Warning: Spoilers
I love that they used a real historical event as the backdrop to part 2 of the arc. I love that the fire was incorporated into the story: Julia's caught in the fire after "seeing" Eva Pearce, Murdoch rescues Julia from the fire, Brackenreid organizes citizens to put out the fire using buckets, George's girlfriend's brother's business burns down and George offers to partner with him to start over, Higgins feeling guilt because he believes he started the fire, station house 4 being used as a refuge for displaced citizens that lost their homes, and a murder suspect who has pyrophobia. I love that they used real footage and photographs. Also, educational in a way. I'm not from Toronto, never lived there, and didn't know about this event. Something to look up and read about.

There were all kinds of twists and turns regarding the murder. A sad realization, by Lady Atherly as she realizes she should have let her daughter live her own life. Yet, ironically, wasn't she right about the man her daughter became involved with? But then again, the daughter seems to lack a moral compass. Good job making the daughter seem all innocent, nice, and charming when she really wasn't.

A notable guest star in the two-parter is Samantha Bond as Lady Atherly. She was a cast member in Downton Abbey and played Moneypenny in four James Bond movies.

This is a really good two-parter whodunnit that would make for a cozy movie night. 10/10.
