Nostos

Warning: Spoilers
They were trying to go for the "powerful" episode here with Mike's flashbacks and struggle to survive, but those ended up being the worst parts of the broadcast. The action sequences were good. Mike struggling to get by just did not suck me in.

Chandler is back on the ship by episode 4. Who didn't see that coming?

Slattery!
TheTaleTeller6 September 2017
I'm not really fond of the Giorgio/Lucia plot, Jackson Rathbone is overacting too much. What made this episode great was Adam Baldwin. I loved to finally see him together with his wife and kids, even if only in flashbacks sequences. I don't watch the show religiously so I don't remember if Chrstine is dead or still MIA. If she isn't dead, I really hope to see an actual reunion in 5th season! The Sardinia part wasn't really believable but the Italian lady did a good job in making it more believable. Best episode of 4th season so far!

Put the Captain back at the helm!

Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely loved the end of this episode! Captain Slattery's flash backs were well done, and when they transitioned into the the final scene with Tom Waits beautifully poetic song "Shiver Me Timbers" I got goose bumps! I always knew that song would find it's way into a Sea Adventure soundtrack someday. I wasn't expecting it her, but it was the perfect time and place! Now put Captain Chandler back at the helm of the Nathan James, and let's right this ship!

Getting high
tenshi_ippikiookami13 October 2017
An episode with two clear parts, "Nostos" fails in both accounts, but still delivers enough enjoyment to forgive it not going anywhere in particular.

First we get Slattery trying to escape, hurt, bleeding, and getting weaker by the second, the bad guys at his heels. A woman decides to help him, but also gives him a drink that makes him see strange stuff... and then his family. All the while, the Nathan James crew is trying to find him.

The episode tries to blend some character moments (Slattery's ghost family) and action. Unfortunately, it does not a good job in either account. The dream state in which Slattery falls is overlong and boring, and even a little bit cheesy. The action is still ho-hum (as in previous episodes), just shooting and extras falling all around for no particular reason. Maybe after the bad guys of the first three seasons (Russians, Americans or Chinese & Japanese), the Greeks don't look as much as a threat as the ones that came before. On top of that, the show is not giving any time for the characters and Burk, Green and the others have turned into cut out cardboard soldiers with no life in them.

"The Last Ship" is in danger of sinking (cough sorry cough).

"Oh what a fall was there!"

This was a great show until this season. I don't know who has suddenly taken over, but it's awful. No plot at all. The people just keep walking around and around and occasionally get into gunfights. Other than that, NADA. You guys better get a grip or you're going to lose your audience.

Above all, the characters are NOT INTERESTING. A great strength of the first three seasons was that we cared about the characters. Not this time around. Horrible people everywhere you look. No evidence at all of the world's plight -- everything's fine on this little Greek island, except there are criminals and gangsters behind every olive tree.

Get us some plot and some characters, people, or this show is history.

You've got to be kidding

Warning: Spoilers
Why are they still using this Oil Burner, U.S.S. Nathan James, instead of Nuclear Powered "Destroyer" (reclassified a Cruiser) U.S.S. Bainbridge.

1 minute 12 seconds making a "sandbox" (drawing) on the ground 2 minutes 50 seconds leaving without intentionally erasing the "sandbox" (drawings on the floor).

If wounded in Combat the FIRST thing you do is assess the wound so that you don't die. Stop the bleeding. Figure out your tactical situation, knowing that you will not have full mental capabilities. Resort to Training and Experience from SERE Training, Special Warfare Training, Special Warfare Training includes Emergency Medical Treatments including some Battlefield Medicine, bagging yourself with an IV, plugging a bullet wound with a tampon rolled up paper towel or cloth to stop or slow down bleeding, stitching a wound shut, improvised bandages and tourniquets. U.S. Army Special Forces Team Members usually Cross Train with the Team's Physician's Assistant (recognized external to the U.S. as a Doctor and Emergency Battlefield Surgeon).

9 minutes 5 seconds They would not all be standing around by the Rubber Boat as easy targets for one RPG-7 to kill them all at Site Bravo. And there is the common thing called Radio Triangulation, meaning that by breaking radio silence they at Site Bravo are going to be found.

13 minutes 59 seconds to 14 minutes 13 seconds, After killing the Enemy you do not leave any weapons and ammunition with them that can be picked up and used against you. You take all of that with you to use against them, if you have too much, you field strip the weapons and toss the parts all over the place, empty bullets from magazines as you leave (leaving a trail, that you can then use to ambush any enemy following the trail of bullets).

14 minutes 8 seconds M16 dropped on ground, M16 set to semi automatic is much better than a pistol for Urban Warfare, as longer range, more accurate, and more ammunition (30 rounds). Glitch at 14 minutes 8 seconds he is holding a Stock M16, yet at 14 minutes 14 seconds the same weapon dropped to the ground is now a M4 with forward pistol grip and collapsible stock.

16 minutes 42 seconds the use of tethered small format (usually undetectable) High Altitude Aerial Platforms (a Balloon shaped like an upside down submarine, the bottom has radar and electro optical video) to see over the Horizon visually and with radar, the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles as standard practice set on autopilot flying high in a large circle around Ship.

26 minutes 1 second to 26 minutes 34 seconds, nope, full automatic, not going to happen unless you have a magic weapon that never has to be reloaded, or you have a ruck sack full of fully loaded magazines. Lesson learned from the Battle of Mogadishu, we ran out of ammunition, and picked up enemy weapons and ammunition.

27 minutes 57 seconds, if detected by radar the first move of experienced UH-1 Pilots is to drop below radar, 5 meters to 50 meters, experienced UH-1 Pilots also know Nap Of Earth (N.O.E.) Aviation. Experienced Pilots will do an extensive Terrain Map Recon and use the Terrain as Cover. UH-1s were usually NOT equipped with Radar Detection those that did had extra antennae above and below the tail, later MH-60s were, while not all UH-60s were equipped. Flight over water, in this kind of situation, after being detected, 1 meter to 5 meters above water called "skid surfing" on UH-1s.

38 minutes 30 seconds, magic while in flight switch from overhead view of dual inlet HH-60 or MH-60 back to a UH-1.

One to two U.S. Navy Corpsmen routinely are with Teams especially Rescue Teams. A Physician's Assistant as a U.S. Army Special Forces Team Member is with a U.S. Army Special Forces Team conducting Rescue Recapture Recovery Missions, same with a U.S.A.F. Special Operations Wing Team.
