I love the sincerity and innocence of Detective Watts. This character was a great addition.

Warning: Spoilers
As the episode begins, is that Murdoch and Julia burying a body at night in the rain? Well, six months later we find Crabtree and Higgins out looking for a burial site, but they have been scooped by Jackson. Plus Misses James, Baxter, and Roy are acting as medical inspectors. Turns out this is a training exercise of Julia's devising.

Then Barry Biggs and Alvin Nash ride in and inform Murdoch that his land for his future house isn't so choice: it floods and is subject to high winds. And when the ladies present their results regarding the cadaver they found, another problem: this isn't the cadaver Julia and Murdoch buried. And whoever it is, he was beaten to death, and possibly a year ago. And then Crabtree accompanied by Miss Baxter also find a corpse. Again, not Julia's. This one perhaps met death by being shot.

Murdoch is having a problem trying to find the original owner of the land, a fellow by the name of Dawson. Murdoch decides to visit his neighbor, Alvin Nash, to see if he knows Dawson. While there he meets Nash's wife Mavis and daughter Dorothy. Nash says the only time they ever saw Dawson was at night. When Jackson is out with Miss Baxter they find another body, a man stabbed to death by a pitchfork. So in addition to Julia's cadaver, we have three murdered men to account for.

Dawson is located and admits being a tax dodger, but his night time visits were because he is an amateur astronomer and prefers to look at the stars in an area unlit by city lights. Dawson suggests Murdoch try interviewing the Hobbins family who have a colorful history of illegal activity in the area. Currently, Willie is in jail but Minnie Hobbins is still living out there, as Murdoch knows. But Crabtree finds some puzzling information. While Hobbins and his sons were convicted, there is no evidence they ever made it to a prison. Could they be on the loose and burying their victims on Murdoch's property? Murdoch believes the bodies might be the three missing Hobbins: William, Patrick, and Daniel. Murdock does find out the Hobbins. Burned down the Nash's barn with their 14-year-old son trapped inside, an event which caused Nash's wife to lose her mind. The prison warden who knew what the Hobbins had done to Nash, released the trio to Nash without them knowing what was happening. As the warden is dying, he doesn't care.

Murdoch brings Nash in and Nash admits he wanted to kill the Hobbins, but all he admits to is they got what they deserved, which is enough to get him arrested. Murdoch is still suspicious. Finally, Miss James' forensic work proves Nash didn't do it. Eventually Murdoch finds the true killers but at a cost: Murdoch and Julia will have to give up their property, which doesn't seem like a sacrifice after all.

On other fronts, Crabtree and Miss Cherry are still involved but there might be a wrinkle coming up in their relationship. Miss Cherry has eyes on George and his future, but a future leaning toward business, not police work. And George's partner in the auto garage business might come to play a more dominant role. Jackson and Miss Baxter are finding some common ground for them. The widower and the future doctor share a few sparks. Miss Roy is beginning to find out Higgins might not be the dull plod she takes him for.

Detective Watts and Norman Bruce are still on the tail of missing women. Norman tells Watts some details about his wife that didn't make it into the police reports, like her having a birthmark on right calf. Things are changing quickly in the world of Murdoch.
