It gets a 6.4 Star Rating in my eyes due to the unique script!
huggibear22 March 2017
Halmark IS improving the quality of their movies. I have noticed the shift. This is a brand new movie for 2017 and it has a different idea, at least. Hallmark is beginning to think beyond and outside of the box when it comes to script-writing. I thought it was a cute movie. I never suspected who the guilty party was that ratted out the company, but I knew something didn't sit well with me and this character right from the beginning of this movie. This character played the part well, driven to get the results desired for who we thought was to be the 'original' team who created the formula. Little did we know! Guess you'll have to watch the movie to see who was on the competitor's side. It's a decent chick and 'sappy' dude flick.

Decent
MovieTVRomanceFan13 October 2020
I thought this was a pretty decent film. The characters were okay and I really liked Dec, but I thought Violet was really annoying throughout most of the movie. It was still pretty okay though. It wasn't my favourite Hallmark film, but still good nonetheless.

Lovely, something different.
MIssM1920 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First review! When I read Shantel VanSanten was going to be in a movie I got excited. I love her. Luckily I really, really liked it.

Somehow this didn't feel at all like a Hallmark movie. The plot was believable, nice, and yes, even though it has elements every type of these movies have it felt different. The locations where it was filmed were stunning, i'm glad they actually filmed in a European city, since the film was taking place in a European city. When it's fake, you can easily notice and it loses the magic.

Shantel, aka Violet was adorable -I swear all her characters are - she was determined to recreate her late's father perfume and she set her mind into doing it. So he asks Dec for help who has an amazing sense of smell, even from the first moment they met there is a spark between them. Both leads did an amazing job, specially Shantel and their chemistry was quite lovely as well.

What annoyed me, was of course they boyfriend, who gets jealous the second a new guy comes into the picture, but then when he is having dinner with the woman he claims to love, he is only paying attention to the phone. I'm so glad his plot turned out to be like it did. It suited him. I gotta admit, it might have been quite predictable - one watches so many Hallmark movies and you know every ending within the first half hour - but a few moments actually surprised me. So it was nice. What I think was missing though, was a good laugh. These movies tend to give one line or two that have me laughing, this was the exception.

To sum up, the movie felt different, It didn't feel like an hour and half, It seemed less, so that's when I know i'm enjoying it. It might not be the best movie Hallmark has ever done, but I'm so glad I saw something that was different. It's definitely worth the watch.

fine couple fine Hallmark
SnoopyStyle26 August 2019
Violet Chappel (Shantel VanSanten) arrives to take over her late father's European perfume company in Belgium. Their most successful formula has gone missing and pages of her father's notebook are ripped out. With the important Valentine's Day deadline approaching, she is desperate and has to hire a new nose. She bumps into botanist Dec Granger (Victor Webster) who seems to have a special nose but unwilling to work for a perfume company. There is also the rival copycat perfumer Olivia Caine (Bobbie Phillips).

VanSanten is certainly gorgeous. She does her bumbling best to be adorable. Victor Webster is being a brooding cad. The pairing is pretty good for a Hallmark romance. The European location is a good change from the usual Canada. It's a pretty simple story as always. It doesn't really matter as long as the couple is appealing and does good work. This is fine.

Blossoming love
TheLittleSongbird31 December 2021
It is hard to resist any film that has such a sweet title (even if it is one where one knows what to expect) and a cast of actors (the most familiar names to me being Victor Webster and Brittany Bristow) who have all been good in other projects. Did appreciate that the premise was not the usual one. The 2017 Hallmark output was a mixed bag, with the best being very well done, the worst being really quite bad and the in betweens ranging between average and decent.

As far as the 2017 Hallmark films go, 'Love Blossoms' is among the better ones (or at least of the films aired in the first half of the year). It isn't a classic, don't consider any Hallmark film at that level even the best ones, but for a film that could have been cheesy or over sappy this was a very charming and amiable effort. That knew what it wanted to be and who to aim it at as well as having something different. There are flaws but also a lot of strengths, namely the location and the cast.

The story isn't perfect in execution, with some rather slow pacing in the slighter stretches in the first half. Actually personally wasn't that surprised at the identity of the guilty party, there was something off about them early on.

Didn't like the boyfriend character at all, this is a type of character that Hallmark have a lot and they are all the same in personality etc and while he was clearly meant to be a jerk the film went too far on it to the point he was irritating.

However, 'Love Blossoms' looks great. The scenery is stunning (well it is Bruges, to me one of the most beautiful cities in Europe) and the film is filled with equally beautiful shots, that don't come over as too self-indulgent or style over substance. The music isn't overbearing or overused, matching the generally light-hearted, gentle tone very nicely without feeling recycled. The direction has momentum while letting things breathe, though a bit slack early on. Other than the production values, the best aspect of 'Love Blossoms' is the cast. Absolutely agree that Shantel VanSanten is a luminous and immensely charming delight, her character is flawed but realistically so and any flaws aren't exaggerated. Webster is an easy going and understated contrast.

Brittany Bristow (despite the dodgy accent) provides zesty support and apart from the boyfriends the characters were ones worth caring for and were interesting. VanSanten and Webster (now married in real life) have beautiful chemistry together and the relationship develops at a pace that is not too whirlwind or aimless. The script has playful moments as well as some truly sincere ones, it flows and the cheese and schmaltz don't go into overboard. Despite pacing issues, the story still has an appealingly light edge and charm and isn't played too seriously or too much of a joke. The ending is extremely cute and not as overly pat as most Hallmark endings, neither is any conflict being contrived. The setting is put into very effective use and is different.

In conclusion, not great but nicely done and charming. 7/10.

Too Many Thorns on the Roses
lallimj14 March 2020
This movie could have been so much better than it was. Yes, the two leads are gorgeous, and so is the scenery. However, nothing really happens in the movie except the heroine is trying to save her father's perfume company--but there is NO suspense or intrigue in how she saves it. Pacing is leaden and plodding. She is so rude and overbearing to the male lead when she first meets him, tells him his job (designing gardens at a botanical museum) is a "waste of his talents." I can't imagine how a woman would attract a man after she insulted a job that he went to college to get. The leads have no chemistry.

If you compare this movie to Lacey Chambert's "Love, Romance, and Chocolate," this is a big miss. Disappointing because I usually love Hallmark movies that are set overseas in "exotic" locations.

p.s. Why cant Hallmark find people who can act. If you watch old black and white movies from the 40's, everyone in the movie from the maids to the cooks to the secretaries can act better than most of the LEADS in a hallmark movie. It's crazy. Maybe it was the studio system back then, where they helped train people under contract in their craft. Maybe Hallmark should have acting classes for the "actors."

The movie is slow, the scenery is gorgeous, but can Hallmark please stop casting Brittany Bristow in roles with accents. Her accents are cringeworthy

Not the traditional hallmark
faithless_bitch9 April 2020
I'm very happy to have seen this movie, Hallmark was getting stuck with their all time actors and locations and it was a nice change to see it was shot in Belgium, actors were very natural and had chemistry, the script wasn't rushed and I hope they will make more like this one.

Some Smiles, Some Yawns
barlowralph19 February 2017
Love Blossoms is a very typical Hallmark romantic movie, complete with the beautiful "heroine," the handsome "hero," the handsome boyfriend/fiancée, and the beautiful but devious "witch." The plot revolves around our heroine finishing the development of a new perfume which her late father had created. The movie is rather slow, and downright boring in spots, but it does have a nice, smile-producing ending scene. If you've got a lot of free time and like these kinds of "sappy" movies (as my wife and I do), then watch it.

I just saw this movie for the first time, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Shantel and Victor are both gorgeous and such great actors with really good chemistry. The storyline was very interesting, and the scenery was breathtaking! All in all this one was a 10/10 for me.

its a slow movie
vriddheeg20 February 2017
It's Set in Bruges, the shooting locations are very apt and lovely. This slow yet well-directed romance is suitable to be played in the background while you work on something. You hardly come across Hallmark movies where actors have accents and hence its refreshing to see some of the supporting casts carry speak in accents.

You've gotta see this one!
Abettysdesk5 March 2017
This movie was excellent. Don't listen to the naysayers. Uh oh, barlowralph "Some Smiles, Some Yawns" gave SPOILERS, so DON'T READ THAT ONE! And DON'T read Miss M's "Lovely, something different" either because there are SPOILERS!..... I'm so glad I did not read these reviews before I watched the movie, because I would've been upset that I knew what was going to happen..... The scenery was gorgeous, excellent shots, the story was very new and fresh, with some unique twists that I'd not seen before. The music was great. The acting was very real, my husband and I felt like we were a part of their lives. This is a must see. Very inspirational. We LOVED IT!!!

Underwhelming
sunnytakhar-1135225 May 2019
VanShanten is gorgeous, but she represents the only decent thing about this flick - the acting at times feels so cringeworthy & forced, and it's a very slow paced movie (frequently bordering on boring).

There's nothing to see here. Dont waste your time.

I think their a amazing couple. I would love to find someone like that. All time one of my favourite movie of all time on hallmark channel! ...And P.S. I can't fully explain the reason for my indifference to this movie, much like the scents in the movie there is something in many Hallmark movies that make them better than their competition, unfortunately this movie is lacking that je ne sais quoi.

The science of scents
MickyG3337 February 2024
7.7 stars.

'Love Blossoms' hits the romantic bone in all the right places. These actors have an affinity for each other and you can feel the affection. They also create some tension which helps move the story along in some of the slow parts.

Her character is a perfectionistic businesswoman who inherits her father's perfume company, based in Belgium. He has recently passed away, but he was also the talent who created the amazing perfumes. Although she has inherited his legacy, she is new to the business, which makes the situation even more difficult. She desperately needs a person to replace her father, someone with olfactory expertise to be a perfumist and help create perfumes for the company. She stumbles on a botanist who has been taking a break from Wall street and tends gardens nearby. His sense of smell is off the charts. He's an American as well (what are the odds? Pretty good for Hallmark). Of course she takes a risk to hire him as the new perfumer (someone who tests fragrances). She feels that maybe he can figure out her father's secret perfume recipe which is incomplete.

Hiring a botanist willy nilly to be a perfumist and fill the role of her expert father is beyond impractical and a potential disaster. Not to mention there are some shady characters with ulterior motives. This disaster actually devolves into a complete catastrophe, but in usual Hallmark fashion, it has a happy ending.

'Love Blossoms' is a successful production with lavish scenery and wonderful music to fit the setting. It entertains throughout and the performances are believable, although some of the accents are not so believable.

Was looking forward to this movie. Was not thrilled.
nptomey28 August 2022
I am a fan of Victor Webster. I discovered him when I discovered Matchmaker Mysteries. After checking out other Hallmark movies and coming across his personal history with Shantel VanStaten, I was curious to see if they had done any movies together.

I found Love Blossoms, a movie they did in 2017. Since they were involved behind the camera I wanted to see if they had chemistry on the screen. Not so much, unfortunately.

The movie was the typical Hallmark formula. Girl loses cherished love one, goes overseas to finish a fragrance begun by the Loved relative in his honor. Meets the answer to solving said problem.

Our Heroine is a perfumer and wants to recreate the fragrance, but doesn't have the formula for the perfume. Having mixed perfumes myself, I know how one must mix various oils and a stabilizing fluid to set your fragrance for consumption. A "Nose" is a must have. She was, indeed very demeaning toward our Hero, sarcastic rude and hateful.

Sadly, there was little chemistry between them. Victor Webster showed more passion toward Danica McKellar in the Matchmaker shows and Bethany Joy Jo Lenz in Five Star Christmas.

The scenery and flowers at the Botanical Garden were beautiful.

Lovely film and clean viewing.

Really enjoyed this film. I love perfumes and romance so what's not to like as there's plenty of both in this movie.

Watched it free with Amazon Prime which was a nice bonus too.

I hope you enjoy it too.

The WORST romcom ever
annakprad16 July 2022
So predictable. Characters are incredibly shallow and frankly just annoying... So disappointing and such lazy writing and acting. Even the music is like something from a 5 year old music box the whole time. Cannot tell you how much of a waste of time this movie is.
