"Müslüm" is a Turkish short film film from 2017 that runs for 4 minutes and was directed by Gökhan Okur, who is also one of the writers here, surprisingly many given how short the movie is. I think this is the very first animated film from Turkey I am watching, certainly the first animated short. And I wish it could have been better. The animation style is not really to my liking, but that is subjective of course. However, I felt that this movie really did feel rushed, the animation, but also the narration, which easily could have lasted for twice the running time. Now initially I was not sure if the film is comedy with playfully acting serious or if this little movie really wanted to be taken seriously. Eventually, I think it is the latter and with that approach I don't think it is working. There is a creative idea and turn here and there, but even for this length it just isn't enough. It's not a failure by any means, but I think Turkey has a long way to go judging from this one here to make it into the league of better animation countries and I am not even talking about reaching the US or Japan. All in all, a thumbs-down because the story as a whole and also the more emotional moments like the star transformation sequence fell rather flat. Watch something else instead.
