Unexpectedly excellent Civil War film.

Warning: Spoilers
Some reviewer questions the "private arrangement" - coffee for tobacco - between Union and Southern soldiers on opposite sides of a river in a quiet sector. From my readings, this occurred frequently.

And Mosby was very much a thorn in the Union's side. His mounted commando raids could be devastating ... and devastatingly disruptive.

And the child soldier might rightly concern us. There were of course drummer boys in the war, but for a young kid to kill others ... maybe creating orphans ... seems obscene.

The equipment seems very authentic. Mosby's kidnapping of General Stoughton is an historical fact. And regular army officers did not like Mosby's unconventional warfare tactics, as the film shows. The mockery of West Point professionals seems unjust..

And the film leaves us with the open question of whether or not James MacArthur's Union soldier would survive ... although it was a Disney movie, so ....

Their own private arrangement

Mosby's Marauders was taken from a two part Walt Disney television program Willie And The Yank. Kurt Russell and James MacArthur played the title roles respectively.

Set in the Civil War the two are on opposite sides literally and historically. Both are on picket duty on each side of a river. Russell and MacArthur have worked out their own private arrangement. Of course some of the higher ups on both sides take the war more seriously.

The Civil War wasn't as much fun as these two seem to be having. Usually I like Disney's work. But this Rover boy romp just can't be taken seriously.

Kurt Russell and James MacArthur in a good movie

Warning: Spoilers
Imagine if you will a Hallmark channell moview was set in the Civil War. That in a nutshell is this movie. It is a pleasant movie, oddly enough for one set in the civil war. With true drama and quality acting especially by a young Kurt Russell and James Macarthur though forgotten now was in several movies you have seen from that era (Battle of the Bulge for instance) and was a solid actor in alot of movies.

This movie could not be made today, but it is a story that could be told about any conflict with love and friendship conquering all.

It is the disney style but actual blood was shed in the battle scenes. The CSA is soft pedaled and while not the heros (all soldiers were heros by this movie) it certainly was portrayed non-negatively.

An enjoyable watch. Spoiler though, the North wins the war.

Totally likeable characters except for Union Sgt. Fun story that teaches values using the Civil War as a background.

This is a delightful film involving the complexities of the American civil war. The film is cute in nature with comedic aspects during a dark time. This film is well worth watching.
