Latto is building up her IMDb page. Earlier this week, the rapper made her acting debut in an episode of Freeform’s Grown-ish as the smooth-talking wine sales representative Sloane. During the episode, she stops by a winery to drop off a delivery for Doug (Diggy Simmons) and snags a date — as well as her commission. “You can’t rush fine wine…or fine women,” she tells him.
And she isn’t in a rush to totally transition from music to acting either, but Latto has enjoyed dipping her toe into the water.

BET+’s new darkly comic thriller Average Joe may or may not be better than Netflix’s Ozark — I never loved Ozark, but maybe you did and so be it — but the gap between the two shows isn’t as great as the inevitable gap in coverage would seem to suggest.
Average Joe and Ozark are both highly derivative pieces of violent, ethically twisty pulp made somewhat distinctive by their regional specificity, irritatingly washed-out cinematography and sitcom-honed leading men repressing their natural timing to play a tamped-down everyman.
Though it doesn’t yet realize aspirations that could generously be described as Jim Thompson meets August Wilson — that’s a show I would very much watch — Average Joe has the feeling of a potential breakout for BET+, though it’s impossible to know what a “breakout for BET+” would mean in this landscape.

If anyone embodies Drake’s song “Started From the Bottom,” Shamier Anderson, a fellow Canadian, does. “I’ve been grinding for a minute from Toronto,” says the actor, who grew up in Scarborough, a marginalized district with three brothers and their single mom, a Jamaican immigrant. “My mother didn’t accept the labels that we had very little hope, very little promise. She used to tell us, ‘Even though they label you as an at-risk community, we’re at risk to be extraordinary.’ “
Anderson took his mother’s words to heart: He started from the bottom, and now he’s here.
At 6-foot-2, he walks into the Southgate Bar at the Essex Hotel in New York, smiling brightly even though he’s in the middle of a 48-hour sprint promoting his latest movie, Bruiser. Streaming now on Hulu, the Onyx Collective drama stars Anderson as the temperamental father of an...

Netflix has offered up a first look at the upcoming comedy film “You People” — and if you can’t handle cringe, this teaser trailer may be a tough watch for you.
Jonah Hill stars in and co-wrote the screenplay for the 2023 comedy with Kenya Barris (“black-ish”), which is loosely based on the 1967 romantic comedy “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and follows a young couple as they clash cultures and generational differences when they meet each other’s families.
Barris makes his directorial debut with the film after creating and showrunning the series “black-ish,” while also writing the scripts for the films “Coming 2 America,” “Shaft” and “The Witches.”
In this short teaser, Hill is explaining to Eddie Murphy why he and Murphy’s daughter are a good fit, but keeps putting his foot in his mouth.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek, coming off a promotional blitz at the company’s D23 conference last weekend, reiterated many of those messages for a Wall Street audience but struck a more definitive tone than ever before in outlining the future of Hulu.
Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Tech Conference, Chapek noted that while Hulu has been operated by Disney since 2019, combining it with Disney+ will need to wait due to Comcast’s financial interests in the service. Under the terms of a deal reached by the companies when Disney acquired most of 21st Century Fox, Disney can buy out Comcast at the start of 2024. Chapek said he “would love to” execute the buyout sooner, but he indicated Comcast is not in a hurry. Recent estimates have pegged the value of the stake at 27.5 billion and that number is not likely to decline during an era when streaming assets continue to be prized.

Based on the novel by L. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz remains a beloved fantasy movie. Although it wasn’t the first Wizard of Oz adaptation, the 1939 movie is undoubtedly the best known. It has inspired countless other works over the decades, and we’ve got yet another on the way. Deadline has reported that Kenya Barris is slated to write and direct a remake of The Wizard of Oz for Warner Bros.
Kenya Barris is best known as the creator of Black-ish, but he also had a hand in writing Girl’s Trip, Shaft, and Coming 2 America. Barris is keeping the creative details of his Wizard of Oz remake under wraps for the time being, but it’s said that it will be a “modern reimagining” of the original.

As per Ryan Scott of MovieWeb you know there’s usually a reason that any movie brings out one suit, character, or situation that is outside of what’s considered the norm, and it usually means that something or someone is going to show up that people didn’t fully expect. Stuff like this is like a giant red flag to alert people to the possibility of something unexpected happening. But then again there are times when it’s just a giant fake out and people spend a great deal of time worrying over nothing or expecting too much. In the case of Black

Welcome to the DC Extended Universe, Cathy Yan. She won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Prize at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival for her bracing debut “Dead Pigs,” and was quickly scooped by Warner Bros. and DC to helm “Birds of Prey.” Subtitled “The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Miss Harley Quinn,” the tentpole is led by Margot Robbie’s cupid of crime in a candy-colored display of female power.
During a recent chat with /Film, Yan spoke about the cinematic influences on “Birds of Prey,” and with this introduction to the film, she has certainly set a high bar of expectations for her upcoming DC debut.
“The way that I sort of talked about the structure of the film is a bit like ‘Pulp Fiction’ meets ‘Rashomon.’ So it’s an unconventional structure,” Yan said. “For me, there’s a lot of my favorite filmmakers that have influences on this film,...

The trailer for Black Widow has been warmly received so far, with the only flies in the ointment being some criticism of Marvel Studios engaging in fat-shaming with David Harbour’s Red Guardian and disappointment with the bland Taskmaster costume. What we see in the trailer is a drab navy colored suit of armor, which looks like a paintball mask hiding the face – a far cry from the hood, armor, white cape and a creepy-as-hell skull mask we know from the comics. As such, this was quite the letdown for people who were hoping for something a bit more accurate.
But now it seems that what we see in the trailer may not be the full story. At Ccxp this past weekend, Marvel Studios showed off a bit more Black Widow footage and among other things, it revealed that Red Guardian sees Captain America as his “geopolitical adversary,” that he...

Next year’s Black Widow marks Scarlett Johansson’s first time starring in her own solo movie in the McU and possibly her last appearance in the franchise. After all, what with Natasha Romanoff meeting her fate in Avengers: Endgame, the prequel film surely can’t be followed by a sequel in which the superhero spy is back in action, right? Well, maybe it could.
As we’ve previously reported, the studio is planning on making a Black Widow 2 that’s due to focus on Yelena Belova, another Black Widow played by Florence Pugh. We just met the character in the recent trailer for the film, which established that she and Nat have a sister-like bond. And while initially we heard that there was no space for Johansson in the sequel, we’ve now received another update on the project and it seems as if plans may’ve changed.

Unlike some other details about the upcoming Black Widow, we actually do know what the Red Room is! The Red Room is a crucial part of Natasha Romanoff's backstory as the site of much of her training as a spy and assassin in her youth in Russia. While we wait to learn more about the creepy, terrifying "school" in the new movie, let's review what we know so far.
We learn a lot about the Red Room academy in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where we see several of Natasha's flashbacks to her time in the facility. The goal of the academy is to brainwash and train girls to become deadly Soviet assassins, usually starting from a very young age. Natasha's flashbacks show how the girls were trained during her time there. It includes mandatory videos of American movies to teach them English but they're also embedded with subliminal brainwashing messaging,...

When Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige announced that he was heading south of the equator to attend Ccxp in Sao Paulo, there were rumblings of what he would unveil for phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When the panel started, the crowd, once again, erupted with an ovation that rivals Hall H — and the venue was much smaller. They chanted “Feige! Feige! Feige!” as he stepped out on the stage.
“Are you guys excited for what’s coming up next?” Feige asked the crowd.
Feige rehashed their slate of Disney+ shows and unveiled images from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision and talked about Ms. Marvel. WandaVision as well as Loki. He touched on the Doctor Strange sequel, Shang Chi and Thor: Love and Thunder but then directed to his attention to The Eternals directed by Chloe Zhao which set to open November 6, 2020.

Natasha Romanoff has fought aliens, robots and much more over her McU career so far, so for her first solo movie she’s going to need a fearsome foe to battle. Sure enough, after much speculation, this week’s Black Widow trailer gave us our first official look at the film’s villain, Taskmaster, a character fans have been waiting to see in the franchise for the longest time. And it seems that now he’s here, he here’s to stay.
According to our sources – the same ones who said he would be the villain of the pic in the first place, way back in March – Taskmaster is expected to return for future Marvel movies beyond Black Widow. We’re told that the studio has bigger plans for him than just as a one-off antagonist in this film. And though his continued role in the McU seems likely to mostly involve the big screen,...

While Taskmaster isn’t the highest-profile Marvel villain, he’s appeared in enough TV shows, video games and comics for people to know what he looks like. A hood, armor, white cape and, of course, a creepy-as-hell skull mask. So, when it was announced that he’d be the villain of next year’s Black Widow, most assumed his costume would broadly contain those elements. But, as the recently revealed trailer shows, the McU Taskmaster is a bit plain.
The basic look is a drab navy colored suit of armor, what looks like a paintball mask and what may or may not be a hood. Either way, it’s quite the letdown for people who were hoping for something a bit more comic-accurate. The current theory is that China has strict rules about depictions of skeletons in movies, and a villain with a skull mask might mean that the film cannot be released there.

The recent trailer for Black Widow got everyone excited for seeing Scarlett Johansson’s ex-assassin back in action after her controversial death in Avengers: Endgame. After having watched it several dozen times, though, some fans are theorizing about one character’s demise that the footage may’ve hinted at.
As we know, the film will introduce a number of characters from Nat’s past, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), another Black Widow who went though the same training and conditioning as Natasha, Red Guardian (David Harbour), an aging Soviet counterpart to Captain America and Melina (Rachel Weisz), a research scientist and another Black Widow, who will likely be revealed to be the original one, too. It’s the first of these whose death is predicted, though, and it’s all due to the characters’ wardrobes and looks.

An early trailer teases out possible storylines for new villain Rachel Weisz and David Harbour’s Red Guardian – and hints at cosmic chicanery to come
‘Nothing lasts for ever,” Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow tells us in the new trailer for her debut standalone Marvel movie, the best part of a decade since we were introduced to Natasha Romanoff in 2010’s Iron Man. This is not, frankly, something fans of the McU really wanted to hear, given that several of the superheroes we’ve grown to know and love were ripped from us at the end of Avengers: Endgame, apparently for ever.
As well as Paul Bettany’s Vision, we lost Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark/Iron Man and Romanoff herself, though Vision will be back in the Disney Plus show WandaVision, while the latter pair are coming back in Black Widow. Perhaps the trailer’s early prediction of...

Fans of “The Irishman” be warned. The National Board of Review, which named Martin Scorsese‘s crime epic as the best movie of the year, has a spotty record at crystal-balling the Academy Awards. While it previewed the Best Picture win for “Green Book” and the Supporting Actress victory by Regina King (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) last year, its overall track record of predicting the Oscars is uneven.
Last year the National Board of Review awarded Best Actor to “Green Book” leading man Viggo Mortensen. The big winner was “A Star is Born” which picked up Best Director (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Lady Gaga) and Best Supporting Actor (Sam Elliott). “If Beale Street Could Talk” also won Best Adapted Screenplay (Barry Jenkins) while writer/director Paul Shrader won for his original screenplay for “First Reformed.”

Let “Saturday Night Live” do all the President Trump sketches it wants. Over on HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” there are skits that cleverly parody how slow soul food restaurants are and how it feels to be overlooked in society with a recurring bit called “Invisible Spy.” Meanwhile, “Sherman’s Showcase” on IFC pokes fun at music-driven biopics with “This Is How He Did It: The Montell Jordan Story” and gives a nod in every episode to an obscure 1970s Afro Sheen commercial featuring Frederick Douglass. And Comedy Central’s “Alternatino with Arturo Castro,” mocks everything from drunk wedding guests to popstar Pitbull and the inhumane treatment at Ice detention centers.
When the new series “Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show” premieres on Netflix Friday, comedy lovers can expect the same type of culturally relevant topics and humor. Executive produced by Kenya Barris (“Black-ish”), the series pushes past the...

Quibi has added a slew of comedians, including “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star J.B. Smoove and Maya Rudolph — among several other former “Saturday Night Live” cast members — to its upcoming comedic murder-mystery series produced by Lorne Michaels and Seth Meyers, the company shared on Tuesday morning.
“Mapleworth Murders” will star Paula Pell as Abigail Mapleworth, a murder-mystery writer who solves homicides in her quaint small town of New Woodstream. Each episode of the series will feature guest victims and suspects as they answer the bigger question of the series: “Why the hell are there so many murders in the small town of New Woodstream?” The series was created by Pell and John Lutz, who will also star in the show.
Smoove and Hayley Magnus (“Sick Girl”) are joining in supporting roles.

There’s an alien nature to the scores of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Even when the pair’s compositions are connecting with the rawest of human emotions, there’s a way that these two longtime collaborators have embraced a kind of outsider approach to film music and made it more accessible.
2019 saw Reznor and Ross contribute to “Waves” and “Watchmen,” two stories that diverge in more than just the usual film/TV divide. One is an intimate family portrait set in the suburbs of South Florida while the other traverses nearly a century of institutional oppression through the lens of one Oklahoma city. Where the musical expression of that pain and uncertainty typically is the province of a robust string section or a mournful piano solo, Reznor and Ross are part of a generation that’s helping to use that same language to adapt to an increasingly digital age.

The long-awaited first trailer for Black Widow is finally here. Up to now, official information on the movie has been thin on the ground, with our knowledge limited to a single poster, a few leaked seconds of the teaser from the San Diego Comic-Con, pictures from the set and promo art. But with this trailer, the promotional campaign has officially begun for the next McU movie and it looks like the final product is going to be a doozy.
Now, where to start with all this awesome stuff? Though Johansson clearly isn’t going to disappoint next May, after nine McU appearances as Natasha, we’re certainly familiar with her. For me, then, the real excitement comes from the incredible looking supporting cast.
As the core of the movie seems to be Black Widow vs. Black Widow combat, it’s good to see Florence Pugh’s Yelena giving Natasha a run for her money.

Korean fantasy thriller romance “Black” has been given a Malay-language adaptation with a more supernatural spin. The series is produced by Malaysia’s Alpha47 Films, from a Cj E&m format.
It is co-directed by award-winning directors, Razaisyam Rashid and Kroll Azri. Cast includes Kamal Adli, Siti Saleha, Nabila Huda, and Zoey Rahman. It will air with this month with four back-to-back episodes each on Dec. 17 and 24, on pan-Asian streaming service Viu.
In the original Korean series, Black follows a grim reaper who enters the world of mortals and finds himself falling in love with a woman who can foresee death. (All 18 episodes of the original are available on Viu.)
The Malaysian adaptation replaces the concept of grim reaper with Bunian, a supernatural being from another dimension in Malay folklore. It sets the eponymous Black on a mission to track down his fugitive partner in the human world. Despite detesting humans for their primitive ways,...

Black Lightning has chosen his side on Black Lightning Season 3 Episode 8.
He's not playing the nice guy to the Asa any longer. Jefferson took a stand that sent shockwaves through the streets of Freeland. And dare I say, "Finally!"
We've needed Black Lightning to step in and take back the town from Agent Odell. There's a new war brewing ... and it's electric.
The tipping point in a battle doesn't always look like a monumental moment from the outside. In the case of "The Book of Resistance: Chapter Three: The Battle of Franklin Terrace", this fight started over an apartment.
However, Mrs. Shepherd's action of standing her ground ignited change within the community. If that decision was what turned Jefferson over to the side of the insurgency, we all owe her a debt of gratitude.
After everything Jefferson witnessed and experienced these last few months, it was only a matter of...

Ahmir Thompson, better known as Questlove, is set to make his feature directorial debut on the documentary film “Black Woodstock” about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. The film’s producers Robert Fyvolent and David Dinerstein announced Monday that the film has begun production.
The festival held in Harlem’s Mount Morris Park in 1969 drew 300,000 attendees and was and known locally as the “Black Woodstock,” and yet it received almost no attention from the media in comparison to Woodstock. Even so, the outdoor festival featured performances from luminaries such as Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, Nina Simone, B.B. King, the Staple Singers, the 5th Dimension, David Ruffin, Mahalia Jackson and Gladys Knight and the Pips.
The documentary will be derived from 40 hours of never-before-seen footage shot by TV producer Hal Tulchin, who kept the footage in storage for the past 50 years.

Despite serving time in a Pennsylvania prison, Bill Cosby has had a busy week.
The comedian, or someone tasked with managing his official Twitter account, posted a series of Thanksgiving tweets urging fans to avoid the nation’s media giants and instead support black-owned outlets that “propel the truth.”
Cosby’s social media musings followed his November 24 interview with the National Newspaper Publishers Association’s BlackPressUSA.com. In the interview — the comedian’s first since arriving at Sci-Phoenix penitentiary near Philadelphia — he called the case that sent him to prison a “setup,” described jurors as “imposters,” and said he feels no remorse.
Clearly pleased with the article, on Thursday the former pudding pop pitchman urged fans — particularly African Americans — to buy a subscription to a black-owned media outlet this holiday season.

The promise of a Mandalorian bounty hunter and decades of classic Disney programming were more than enough to get millions of viewers to sign up for Disney+ during the service’s bustling launch week, matching early optimism for the latest streaming addition.
Analysts were quite optimistic about Disney+ in the months leading up to last Tuesday’s launch, and early data suggests their bullishness was warranted: Disney said there were 10 million signups for the company’s new streaming service within a day of its launch. The company’s stock jumped up around 7 percent after the announcement and has stayed relatively steady since.
That said, the Disney statistic is presumably inflated by seven-day free trial accounts and also includes signups from the various promotional deals Disney has offered over the last few months. Letitia Wright, the actress who gained stardom in 2018 with the success of the Marvel blockbuster Black Panther, has been outspoken on her Christian identity on numerous occasions in the past and recently, she had a bone to pick with the media concerning the extracting of her Christian commentary from various interviews.
It’s no secret that she’s a big believer in religion and during a BAFTA speech, the Black Panther actress even shared that God helped to rouse her out of a state of depression, saying:
“I can’t get up here without thanking God,” Wright stated. “…I literally wanted to quit acting. The only thing that pretty much pulled me out of that was God, my belief, my faith, my family, and an email from BAFTA…”
In various interviews around the time of Black Panther‘s initial release, Wright also voiced that her happiness was shaped by her relationship with God.

This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Looking back, Pokemon Black and White was something of an in-betweeny point in the franchise’s development. Diamond and Pearl had already mastered the move to DS, and we were still three years away from X and Y making the next big leap with the transition onto the 3Ds. Without new hardware to showcase, the 5th Generation of the franchise could have easily felt like a lull. Booting up Black in 2019, though, it is clear that this generation still holds up pretty well.

In the most recent episode of Jack Black’s YouTube series, JablinskiGames, Black hit the road in Nashville with Kyle Glass and the rest of the Tenacious D crew. They ended up stopping by the famous Third Man Records where musician Jack White gave them a tour of the studio. They then ended up at Jack White’s house to record a song as Jack Grey.
Black wasn’t able to film the visit, but he did say that it was a “legendary collab”. Black also said that White’s house is as awesome as you’d expect. “His house is crazy, I’ve never seen so many cool antique toys. It’s what you would expect: Jack White’s house is gonna be off the chain. I’m still floating, floating on Cloud 9. I think our song is the kickin’ chicken too — it’s a stone-cold jam.”
