A Tranquil and Beautiful End for a True Jedi
stevebatoir7 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
"Jedi Night" is the tale of Kanan Jarrus rescuing Hera from the Imperial military and crippling the Empire's plot to use Lothal as an arms cache and production facility. It is a remarkably beautiful episode, it shows a Jedi not angry with his lot as a lone survivor of an ancient order, but as a warrior and teacher at peace with his destiny and choices. It shows him seeing Hera one last time as he says goodbye, him imparting his final lesson of heroism to Ezra, and using the violent aggression of the Empire to destroy the fuel of their military might. It heroically and poetically symbolizes the sentiment that true heroism and hope is not about killing your enemies, but protecting the ones you love.

The best episode of the entire show

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is filled with such raw emotion. Relatively simple in concept, with the group trying to rescue Hera from Imperial captivity. And yet, this episode is complex with character relations. The relationship between Hera and Kanan is so beautiful yet tragic. Seeing them talk lovingly with banter is so sweet. But then the final part of the episode hits. It's easily one of the saddest character deaths I've ever seen. It's so tragic, yet heroic. Kanan giving his life to save the people he loves is very heroic and Jedi like. This episode is a perfect tribute to the character of Kanan. A Nobile Jedi who fought to protect the innocent people of the galaxy and to protect his close friends. One of the greatest Jedi of the saga. And easily my favourite character of this show.

Wow this episode was so powerful. Great action and peril which kept me on the edge of my seat and the culmination of a storyline that is hugely moving.

Thrawn and Governor Pryce are at their villainous best and Rukh is a sinister presence. The might of the Empire is palpable and our heroes efforts are desperate and brave.

Hera is still strong in captivity but as Kanan readies himself for a rescue mission the emotion begins to build higher and higher. As Ezra, Sabine and Kanan raid the Imperial base we get climactic scenes that are jaw droppingly well created and heartbreaking. A tear in the eye and goosebumps greeted the superb drama that unfolded.

The music as always is magnificent and the animation was extremely good. It now has reached the level of most of the Clone Wars stunning animation.

The story is utterly compelling, artistically beautiful in how it is crafted and absolutely top quality in realisation.

Very very moving.

10/10.

Broken!

Warning: Spoilers
Ah! That feeling when you have to watch the rest of the show without seeing Kanan, it's heartbreaking, even if it's for 3 or 4 episodes. I was broken by the end. People argue that there was enough time for him to get in. But that's not true. No one would have been saved unless he'd done what he did. Truly remarkable work, Dave. I don't know how you always make these shows so exquisite and heartbreaking. I adore your works.

Perfect series have perfect sad moments

Warning: Spoilers
Let's face it, the empire strikes back was the best ever Star Wars film because it all went wrong for the rebellion and that made us love our heroes even more because they had become vunerable and could suffer loss.

This underlying theme is where this episode takes this final series to a new high. Kanaan/ dume has realised that his time has come and he is facing his moment head in without hesitation. We know what is coming but the moment, the sacrifice, seeing Hera with his eyesight returned for one last look was one of THE great Star Wars moments.

Kansan was not even remotely as powerful as many previous/present Jedis or sith but he still had the humility, wisdom and loyalty to make him one of our favourites and the ending of this episode shows that the greatest heroes are the ones who are unselfish in their actions.

A perfect way to start the beginning of the end for a great and enjoyable series.

"Jedi Night"

In many ways, this is really the episode that I've been waiting for. This signals that we are now entering the final strech of this series. The ending brought such an emotional punch and delivered a fatal blow to the group that we have loved for so long, also breaking the hearts of multiple fans. To have such dedication to the completion of a storyline is remarkable and Dave Filoni and the creators deserve so much credit for it. Other than the end, the episode had a lot of great action sequences and moments that reminded me of why I fell in love with the series to begin with. Great character moments, and some long-awaited revelations all contributed to the episode's greatness. The only thing I can really say as a negative was that I found the episode to be a little too short, especially for an episode that ends up meaning so much more to the overall series than it first seemed. Other than that, this was an emotional episode and one that the series has been heading towards for a long time. We are in the endgame now, and it seems like it could be a heartbreaking end to a great series.

Jedi Nights

Warning: Spoilers
I was partially expecting this the end with Kanan's death, but I was still anxious and dreading it. It was beautifully done. It was both sad and heroic. The Rebels taking more loss is something that's sure to set the tone and ending up perfectly.

Yes, it's another Star Wars rescue mission, but it's done so well this time around. Everything from the direction to the music and pacing and tone just felt very cinematic and different from most of the show. I loved Kanan and Hera's moments together too. That's a relationship I would love to have seen more of.

Definitely one of the best in the whole show.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron ((SPOILERS)) Review 8/10

So it was an interesting flick, not at all what I was expecting. I went in expecting it to at least have some of the elements from the Rogue Squadron novels and comics....but a musical??? I mean ok, I dig musicals (yes I really do, I've seen a pretty good number of them) so how did it shake out?

Grogu learns he's actually a Palpatine.

Watto is now Chief Administrator of Cloud City. An attack fleet of New Republic capital ships is stationed there and we see a large number of Ewoks and droids as the crew, one mentions they're waiting for the captain to return from Endor...

Wicket the Ewok is leading a band of Resistance Fighters against the last stronghold of the Night Sisters on Endor.

Wedge Antilles has retired from the New Republic and handed off his helmet to his daughter Jaina Fell-Antilles to lead Rogue Squadron on another mission to....

There's ANOTHER Death Star type base called The Star Saber that looks like a giant lightsaber hilt in space. It's been hidden in the Corporate Sector (ya know, where Canto Bite is located) for the past 20yrs in plain site. Everyone thought it was just a space station.

Thrawn leaves his "new fleet" in the hands of his son Kybo Ren to defend the Star Saber as he is returning the his homeworld of Chiss as it's new leader. Thrawns ship is intercepted by Wickets fleet and Rogue Squadron and swiftly destroyed because Wickets fleet has "Shield Skipping" torpedoes and turbo lasers.

Rey and Leia train on Yavin IV whilst singing and dancing "Luck be a Jedi Tonight". Luke is still "missing". Thankfully this is the only time we see Rey as she has nothing at all to do with the rest of the plot...which there's very little of in the first place.

Rogue Squadron has a musical number as they being to board their X-Wings and Y-Wings about how they have to stop the First Order.

Another musical number plays out on the bridge of Wickets capitol ship "The Yub Nub Dream" that questions if Wicket was justified in killing all the Night Sisters.

Of course they take out the Star Saber but Kybo escapes capture thanks to Watto showing up at the last second and somehow flying his shuttle through the entire space battle, boarding Kybo's ship, and making it to the bridge to get him back in the shuttle within five minutes total time.

So yeah....it was a little weird but what ya gonna do right?

. .

. .

. ....and this is how I think the movie would've been if it had even been made.
