Center of the Storm

Taking a week of from the Reign conflict while still keeping that arc relevant was something this episode of Supergirl tried to do, and for the most part, did it quite well.

As a character, Sam has always been an interesting character and I've enjoyed the way they have presented her as unaware of the Reign persona. To me, the show has played its cards right in that vein and if all stays course, the reveal of Reign/Sam will be the best thing this show has ever done, much like the Reign/Supergirl fight from earlier this year.

However, most of the episode did focus on Lena and Morgan Edge's relationship and they are a less than stellar combination. Don't get me wrong, Edge is miles better than some of the other villains this show has given us, and Lena may be the most important addition to the show in the last few years, but I've never really cared for this conflict. Throw in Lillian Luthor and a predictably convoluted murder plot and you have yourself an hour of CW television. Although, I have to say, it didn't necessarily look the best CGI wise, but Lillian wearing the Lexosuit was a welcomed surprise.

That made up this week's Supergirl episode, in short of course. A failed murder plot, a couple of cool reveals (including Lena finding out Mon-El is alive?), and Supergirl figuring out who the next worldkiller may be. There isn't a whole lot of season 3 left, but were at a much better position than we were at this time last year.

Supergirl - S03E12 For Good
j_forbesy31 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode of Supergirl we had a very Lena centred episode. As a character I really enjoy Lena however I have felt as though she is yet to be completely be utilised in this series. With that I was looking forward to see how they handled her this episode.

This episode for the most part was enjoyable. It is no way is a perfect episode or story as a whole, but I liked that we got to see more a progression in the Lena and Edge feud hat we started the season with. By the looks of it, we will get some more out of this plot before the end of the season, however they have left it at a point where they could leave it out. If they did choose to go down that route however, I would feel like it would be the wrong option considering how it finished.

Into a massive positive for the episode, the final battle was fantastic. James as Guardian and Mon-El as a hero were too aspect of last season that I felt that they didn't get right last season however I thought that they were utilised great this episode. Mix that in with the return of Lilian Luthor and Lex's suit, this episode had one of my favourite end fights this season.

Overall, considering the goal of this episode to act as an entertaining filler, it did it's job. I had a few problems with it but in the long run, this episode be forgotten by the end of the season. The only aspect of this episode that I could see paying into the rest of the season is Lillian Luthor.

Morgan Edge the victim?
mgroat695 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I missed the first few episodes of this season where presumably they built up Morgan Edge as a bad guy. Watching this episode in seclusion, you could easily see him as the victimized innocent. The opening review scenes show Lena pointing a gun at him. His car is hacked and an attempt made on his life. Lena is poisoned and they assume Morgan did it even though they have no evidence to support that. A 2nd attempt is made on his life using a drone. The "good guys" offer to prevent his assassination only if he confesses to things they have no evidence he actually did.

Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
I had been interested in where Lena's rivalry with Morgan was taking her. (Especially since she almost shot him.) This episode killed it for me. Too much goofy logic. Lena gets a clearly coerced confession out of Morgan then strikes him and expects it to hold up in court. Supergirl stands nearby as a security guard is shot. Surely, the writer could have tried harder. Plus the overall dialogue seemed subpar this time.

Lillian's presence didn't help things any. Her and Lena's storyline is too drawn out and doesn't really contribute much. Plus, there so many holes in Lillian's logic.

On the plus side, we did get to see Lillian fight in the Luthor armor, which was pretty cool.

Luthors Really Are Evil...
lassegalsgaard6 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
If there was ever any doubt about who was the most iconic Superman villain, it should be tamed right now. Lex Luthor is without a question the only correct answer to that question. Luthor is the one who have tried to kill Superman multiple times, and he has appeared in several media adaptations of the character's stories. Luthor has not always been his enemy, as he has also been his ally in some issues, and even some where they were actually friends. It's very clear that they are taking that same approach with Kara and Lena in this show, which is probably the best approach. However, I don't think that the Luthors have been portrayed the way they deserve in this show yet, and I am desperately clinging on to hope that we might someday see an evil Lena Luthor on screen. This episode is the closest I have ever gotten to the way I want to see her portrayed on the small screen.

Throughout this entire season, two characters have constantly been standing out because of some good storylines: Alex Danvers and Samantha Arias. I believe that these are this season's best characters, and I was very happy that they to spend this episode in the presence of each other. They relate with each other, and they should because these are characters who are both going through some difficult periods at the moment. I have been enjoying the storyline that they gave given Samantha, and I believe that she is still one of the most compelling antagonists that this show has ever had, because she doesn't know about her true self, which makes her a whole lot more dangerous.

This episode was also the beginning of a new arc in this season. We are finally expanding the Worldkillers from one to three. I don't know that much about the Worldkiller mythology that they are setting up in this show, but I do know a thing or two about Reign. I think it's great that the show is taking some liberties, and trying to create their own mythology for these characters. It's always hard to do an adaptation if you are forced to follow the words in the comicbooks one hundred percent. Once in a while, it's good to come with some original ideas, and I think this show is very good at doing that, but still keeping it true to the comics.

I will also compliment the arc that Lena Luthor had. I still don't like the rivalry between her and Morgan Edge, but I did like the way her character was used in the episode. She was finally able to come clean to Kara about trying to kill Edge, which throws a completely new dilemma in the air. Can Kara be truthful to Lena and tell her who she really is? They are slowly planting the seeds for Lena to become an antagonist, and I find that part really exciting. Their relationship is definitely going to crumble, and even though it will be heartbreaking for the characters, it will be excited for the audience, because they will get to see a completely new side of Lena that is hopefully better than the one we currently see.

Overall, I think the writers stepped up their game this episode. There were multiple lines of dialogue that I actually found to be heartwarming, and some of found to be clever. This has not happened that often in "Supergirl," but if they keep it up to this level, I think I might have to give them more credit for their writing.

Now, this episode isn't perfect. I still believe that Adrian Pasdar is wasted in this role. Edge is a terrible character who constantly tries to kill Lena, but doesn't succeed. At this point, he is simply coming off as dumb, and I don't think they ever meant for the character to be that way. I also complimented the writing, but I have to say that Pasdar has some terrible dialogue in this episode. However, that isn't anything new, because he has never been given good dialogue, which I think is a big mistake, because Pasdar is a really good actor, who deserves a lot better. At least it looks like his character is going away for a while, which I will be looking forward to.

I also think it was a mistake bringing back Lillian Luthor. I was fine with the role she had in Season 2, but I really didn't need her to come back for this season. I also thought the reveal at the end with the exo-suit was so cringeworthy, and it came out of nowhere that she would suddenly have that suit. Let's hope that she stays away for the remaining episodes.
