Fair Winner & Limited stupidity
trysavingtheplanet7 March 2020
So often you will watch these shows and wonder at the end, how on earth did that win? There was one entry that made me think, wtf how was that better than the competitor.. you'll know the one I'm referring to.. but mostly it was a fairly judged. All great entries!

Fortunately logic and taste persist with this particular series, so the cabin that did win was truly the better one and the build by far the most deserving, so it was a rewarding experience to watch until the end.

Incidentally, if you watch this show without wanting to visit wales, you could well be dead inside. This is a terrific show for Welsh tourism. I hope that my review has made you a little curious and you spend a rainy or humid in aircon time chilling-out watching the 4 episodes.

Delightful to watch

This is a delightful show with stunning views, darling little cabins, great tips for creating a get away space and fun hosts.

A clever competition for Welsh tourism. I certainly am convinced this is a bucket list vacation spot.

Great builds.

Love the builds and creativity. Think it's funny the host always refers to the trees around as the ancient woods or forest. That's a forest? Lol it's pretty but not very wild.

Stunning views and amazing craftsmanship

This show is meant to be savoured like a good cup of tea. The scenery and views of the Welsh countryside are absolutely breathtaking! And the cabins showcased are all unique and intriguing. It was entirely relaxing and enjoyable to watch - if you can go on vacation through a TV show, this is it.

Dick Strawbridge makes the world better.

Talk about a natural! This program shows genius designs amidst beautiful backdrops, but really is worth watching for the host. He is genuinely interested in the participants and makes them feel worthy. I always enjoyed him in Junkyard Wars, and am thrilled he has his own show.

I wanted to like this, but the indoor derby wearer was too much

Too much speaking with the hands, even when it adds nothing (an in fact, when it overdramatizes and distracts). Comes across as pretensions. Everything else was compelling, but this got in the way of trying to get into the episode.

Celebrating beautiful design

I love George Clarkes Amazing Spaces, and that's what drew me to this program.

There really are some beautiful pieces of design showcased here, and the process and craftsmanship is celebrated too. As a design lover, I really enjoyed this show.

Dick is great but 11k for the build
paul-0320828 January 2021
Like many reviewers I enjoyed the show. However, it takes a lot of convincing that these builds fall within budget. The labour could not possibly be included nor design and drawing costs, transport etc. Some would be freezing and do not fit the brief yet win. I guess the Strawbridges need the cash.

Immensely creative and artistic

I love these niche shows currently on Netflix. They are slow, yes. But, you are drawn in to these journeys that are immensely creative. The way the people build these small cabins, and the experience they try to take the inhabitant on, is incredible. Kudos and thank you for blowing my mind and sparking creativity in my every day life.

Painfully repetitive
gtpunch30 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There's a few minutes worth of decent content here, stretched out to a couple of hours in the generic repetitive "X competition" TV show format, where they repeat the rules and what's being done in this episode many many times.

It's not a very interesting 'competition' - 8 random competitor build weird impractical little caravans, most of which would be too leaky and drafty for Wales. Some of the stoves don't have chimneys, and there are baths and sinks with no plumbing. Some of the competitors just 'design' the cabin, and get someone else to actually build it.

The guy who won did an excellent job though, I would have preferred to spend more time watching him build that dragons eye with the laminated wood roof than watching the presenters exaggerate and go on about how luxurious a small bed and a portaloo is.

Weird British Small Houses
catschasemice959423 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The show is a contest that involves building small portable structures as luxury vacation cabins in Wales. If you like your tiny house to be weirdly modern this is your show. My favorite lost. I'd rather stay in The Cabin in the Woods than the outre winner of this show. Not that there aren't some clever bits. It's just not my idea of a vacation stay.

Only for the Welsh countryside.
kcankid12 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The setting of the Welsh countryside is the only redeeming aspect of this show.

The cabins are pretty but it's obvious they are made to be functional and are not keeping to the budget. Way too much talking by the hosts and not enough time spent on the buildings themselves. I suppose they don't show more due to them being the unrealistic structures they are.

Why not go the extra step and make it real? Who knows?

Skip this unless you want to see some really pretty scenery of a wonderful place that have had the pleasure of visiting in my youth.

Holidays in darkness?
karlaventer25 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The winner definitely deserves it, but the winners of the other rounds I didn't get. Cabins full of darkness, obviously filmed on sunny days in Wales, but there aren't too many of those, right? Why would I want to need a headlamp to crawl into my cabin? Or are we taking chances with the weather, paying up, and then sitting stuck inside this small little space if it is bad weather? (With black walls?) noooooo! Just horrible. The one with the only allure being the roof opening up, how often could that be used in Wales? 100% unrealistic. Loved the presenters though.

Good idea. Poor execution.
bluefigtoast4 March 2021
Oh my. Where to start.

On a positive note: there is no lack of slowness.

This would have made a passable 30 minute show. In the words of the Bard, their narration is nothing short of "Much Ado about Nothing."

Wayno
