A Solid Season Opener
GunnersMate3 January 2019
The Murdoch Mystery Mansion brings us Murdoch and his wife moving into their new home - designed by Frank Lloyd Wright no less and including a "potato-cooker" (which behaves curiously like a modern microwave oven) designed by Murdoch himself. However, the first night in their new home is not one spent alone as Wright owns the rights to use the building as a showcase of his architectural artistry for the time-being, and the result is a house-warming party that is part Murdoch's invitees and part Wright's. A death quickly interrupts the evening and the detective work quickly ensues.

The mystery is interesting, the detective work reasonable, and the side story (which includes both the upcoming nuptials of Higgins and his fiancé's requirement that she find a wedding date for Crabtree) is entertaining. A solid way to open the twelfth season of the Murdoch Mysteries.

I Didn't Like the House Either, Detective

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode, Murdoch has another of his famous allusions to a future technology (the microwave oven), but its presumed employment in the murder of a house guest is rather a stretch -- ker-blooey, and Dr. Ogden is okay with simply cleaning up the mess in her new kitchen?

The continuing story of Higgins' impending marriage to his wealthy fiancee is also a bit of a stretch. But she's eccentric, so I guess that explains her love for the devoted but otherwise rattle-brained patrolman.

Still, I love the series, and the producers' decision to continue it into its 12th season was much welcomed.

What happened to the baby?

Warning: Spoilers
Whatever happened to Julia being pregnant? After a few episodes with Julia suffering from having raging hormones and getting sick at the sight of dead, gruesome bodies, we don't have a baby. Right now, I'm nearly at the end of season 12 and still no child. Hmmmm...

New watcher

I discovered this series on Hulu. I was drawn to it by the historical aspect as I am a former history teacher. I have completed all twelve seasons. I have been astounded by it's loyal fan base and I have enjoyed reading their good and critical reviews. I have also read the original books. I agree with the points about the writers putting their liberal views about abortion, the Catholic faith & religion, and homosexuality into the series. Those issues were around during that time but I would have liked them to address them as they were dealt with at the time. However having stated that, I still like the series and the characters and the actors who portray them. I hope they will continue to share Canadian history, inventions, and the forensics of the time period. I like the humor and tongue in cheek references. I do love the relationship between Murdoch and Ogden. I agree that having a lady coroner or surgeon at that time is stretch but I enjoy watching them work together to solve a case. I hope they will show this character especially Ogden becoming more open to Murdoch's views, I like her strength but it would be nice to give them a chance to grow together as a couple. Final point, I noted in somereviewspeople complained about the women's hair, I for one think MsJoy has beautiful hair, and as William noted it was lovely in the beginning series when she wore it in a long braid but I realize as a professional doctor not very sanitary. Looking forward to season 13.

The Potato Cooker. . .
jbickmore-483-6825520 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I understand that Detective Murdoch tinkers with futuristic gadgets. However creating a microwave oven big enough to cook a human until it is unrecognizable is to great of a leap; even for this show. It would have been absolutely impossible for him to create this device, with the technology available at this period in history. The writers should at least keep his inventions within the realm of reason. It is apparent that the writer of this episode did not take the time to do even minimal research into the feasibility of this creation.
