Emotional Drama
zeitgeistvox30 March 2021
I watched all 53 episodes of this drama! I liked the premise and the story was good. The main characters are a daughter (Jang Da-Ya) and father (Kang Soo-il). The father is released after 28 years of a life sentence in prison for murder while his daughter was left with his close friend and his wife to bring up as their own. The wife, however, is not happy with this situation and does not treat her well, although she is doted upon by her adoptive father. She does not know that she is not their biological child. Her biological father comes back into contact with her without her knowing who he is. He tries to help her without her finding out his identity therefore avoiding the stigma of having a father who is a murderer. Secrets and stories are uncovered throughout the drama as you become more familiar with the characters.

The culture of parents being able to approve or disapprove of and often choose their childs' spouses is a major theme in the drama and there is a definite class system apparent and animosity towards any spouse who is deemed inappropriate. Perhaps it is because I am British, but it was difficult for me to understand why a married couple didn't move out of the family house when there were conflicts with their in-laws. Why Jang Da-Ya didn't stick up for herself more may have been a cultural thing, but I wanted to shake her!

It is a long series, but it kept me engaged. I enjoyed the romances and the different stories which connected the characters, but OMG the amount of shouting and crying was emotionally exhausting. I can't remember an episode where there wasn't a good amount of both. It got a bit depressing part way through and I had wanted a feel good drama to help me through lockdown! I did really enjoy the last couple of episodes which were more positive, so I am glad I watched those.

So on the positive side, it is a good story which kept me going for so many episodes, but I almost gave up halfway through due to all the sobbing that was going on!

Oh my God !

Oh my God ! Is a phrase one of the actors uses a lot and after watching the travails of the star of the show you may be using the expression as well. Each episode manages to wring out all the emotions and leave you heartbroken for the mistreatment of good people. It has pantomime villains who though not evil lack any kind of human empathy and constantly berate the good people unfairly and incessantly. Definitely worth a watch and it is a rollercoaster of emotions, lacks real character development but well acted with a touch of humour.

There isn't much to talk about this. I have just watched some of the episodes, but I could predict how the show would play out.

The series is as expected of an average TV drama. The plot is easy to understand, and it contains a lot of characters with different storylines. It all started when the main girl's father was arrested for murder, he asked his sworn brother to take care of her, who was a baby at the time and he must keep this a secret. 27 years later, the father got released and try to set up a new life. He stumbled upon his daughter - who's now an adult and also has a fresh start due to certain circumstances. He slowly gets closer to her life (accidentally) and the story shows more about the main girl's life attaching to romance, work and how she and her father reconnect.

The plot is cliché, there are certain character tropes, some scenes gave me second-hand embarrassment, the protagonist's adoptive mother and sister are extremely annoying, I heard they had good ending so why? But on the other hand, the acting is believable (just some of them), I'm surprised that the actress who played the main girl is an idol, since her performance is actually pretty natural. Her father was great as well.

Overall, the series is an above-average show. It's a good recommendation for those beginners who want to enjoy general drama and have plenty of free time in hand.

Very Good, in its own genre

If one's a fan of social drama genre and willing to watch a drama that powerfully connects audiences to emotions alongside taking them on a roller caster of family issues, not so pleasent social prejudices, and every day issues most contributed in families lives nowadays , then this is a (say The) right drama to go with ... excellent cast ... note that this is not supposed to be a romance , but the story of numerous tragic events one may go through ,not because of his/her mistakes but because of people's judgement...

This series is total waste of time, story is dump there is no character development main character is not inspiring or even convencing. No story development other than same tilling every episode and providing the obvious outcome.

It doesn't deserve this rating at all. P. S I completed the series at hope that it would get better.
