Clare De Lune song and legendary Tim Blake Nelson

Very enjoyable one about Looking Glass and several bizarre occurrences! Unexpected peculiar one that peaks my interest for more, I am happy with the way Watchmen is going regardless of the flaws.

Here. We. Go.

The (necessary) worldbuilding, character establishment, and initial plot is over, ladies and gentlemen. Now we get to the real squid meat and extradimensional potatoes of the story, and it's absolutely delicious. That's honestly all I can say without spoiling things. Do yourself a favor and just see it for yourself.

"Your God has abandoned you"
Fanatic_movie_goer18 November 2019
Tim Blake Nelson's episode. This was a great episode. We get to see the Looking Glass backstory and we get to see the plot evolved.

The music ain't just Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, it has memorable tracks from the 50's to the 70's.

Tim Blake Nelson is great as Looking Glass. He is a great actor with a very peculiar role, but still interesting.

The episode is about Looking Glass and his evolvement in the storyline and it will confuse you and make you thing about the bad guy. Who the hell is the bad guy?

If you needed a reason.....Little Fear of Lightning is your calling
PurpleCrayon201418 November 2019
If you needed a reason to watch Watchmen, to binge Watchmen, to immerse yourself into Watchmen, Episode Little Fear of Lightning is your calling. This season of Watchmen has been like the intrepidness of riding a rollercoaster: You get on and fasten in, the car slowly makes its way down the route(speeding up a bit, slowing a bit, bumpy slow turns), then you begin to elevate while your anticipation escalates as you look around and take in the totality of what you're about to endure -not really capturing the big picture....until the bottom drops out from under you as you white-knuckle the safety bar -Watchmen has engulfed you, has taken you in, and you will not stop until Watchmen has decided to be done with you.

Holy #%%!

This episode elevates it all to the quality of the original comic.

And, the reason why there is a gang of a Rorschachs running amok is revealed. If you have read the original comics, or watched either the motion comic or the film, the ending of those are the same.

Just remember the final thing that happens in the film version. That pretty much explains it, but you actually have to see it for yourself. So we get an idea of why, but the next big question is what?

Everything here focuses on the cop who calls himself "looking glass". Who he was and who he is, and why he is looking glass in the first place.

Also, we finally get to see exactly where Adrian Veidt has been stashed away for all of these years, so the question is still who is responsible?

Sooner or later Dr. Manhattan is going to show up. But when, and where? And, why?

The pieces keep falling into Place, while everything else falls apart.

I find myself looking forward to this show every weekend.

If you liked the graphic novel, this show is an absolute slapper. Thus far each episode has been the new best episode of the season. Can't wait to see how they top this!

Almost getting there
bijanadhikari19 November 2019
This show is slowly starting to unfold all the mysteries and whether Damien Lindelof can pull off what he created remains to be seen. Meantime the production, design and music are some of the best for a TV series I've seen which should put on an awe on any casual viewers who has not even read the graphic novel. And even if you hated the political statement the show made in early episodes, this one will make it clear that it was not just an agenda by the creators. I am really hoping this show ties everything together until the end. For now I am really enjoying this show.

First We Take Manhattan
southdavid19 November 2019
I again really really liked this episode.

This instalment focuses on the character of Looking Glass (Tim Blake Nelson). Through flashback we learn that he was in New Jersey on the night of the "Alien Attack" on New York and despite working with support groups for survivors of the incident, he's still struggling. We come to learn that his mask not only works to hide is identity - but also as a shield, psychologically if not literally, from physic attack. Meanwhile, Adrien Veidt (Jeremy Irons) appears ready to put his escape plan into action.

I think what I liked about this episode was, rather like the third episode, it was a largely self-contained aspect of the overall plot, with huge dollops of back story filling in the time from the graphic novel that we haven't seen. This episode gave us our first look at what the devastation was like in New York when the alien appeared, whilst also confirming that the majority of the world don't know the truth of what happened, so Rorschach's journal must not have made it to the public. We learn that Veidt's plan was more far reaching and specific than just to reunite the earth on that fateful day, as he appeared to know, amongst other things, that Robert Redford would become President. He appeared not to know he was going to end up in some sort of as yet still ill-defined virtual prison though, but his macabre method of getting his escape message out is coming to fruition.

It's just top quality all round. Performances, effects, musical choices. Admittedly it has a character reveal that I'm sure most people would have seen coming episodes ago but at least that wasn't maintained for some dramatic reveal in the finale. Funny and dramatic, this was great television.

Best episode so far
idabrasso23 November 2019
This is the best episode so far in my opinion. The focus is on Looking Glass and his background, and Tim Blake Nelson acts his best off in this one. Great job. It gives a lot of depth to a character who could otherwise come off as a bit of a one-dimensional "kooky conspiracy nut" type. The characters are well realised, and the music and references to the comic book are on point too. It's a really good watch, and I can't wait for the next episode now!

The best episode so far

Warning: Spoilers
This is the best episode so far. The story finally picks up and it shows a bit of the fallout of Veidt's squid attack. The great hoax is revealed and my man, Looking Glass gets the much deserved screentime.

Squid pro que.. lmao

Finally moving with the story.
cruise0118 November 2019
3 out of 5 stars.

The plot is finally coming together. With Adrian plan slowly revealing itself. The white supremacist plan is revealing. There is a twist with a character which made this worth watching. The opening scene was haunting.

It is a little slow moving with the script and direction. Hopefully it gets better.

The best episode

Warning: Spoilers
Ok I give the episode 5 because it is by light years the better than the other 4. Finally there is a character you can actually care about. The opening scene was great. But we are still stuck in such a slow pace that I want to reach into the show to hoist up the anchor. Please pick up the pace and mend other characters.

A Better Direction
LANGUISHMAN20 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was fantastic, I was invigorated through it all. Looking Glass was great and the characters were actually relatable. I was impressed!

Looking Glass went through a lot of stuff after the squid attack in 1985 (I think?). We get to see his experiences throughout the episode and it was great. Not only did it explores the character of Looking Glass even further, but it also revamps the whole narrative in a way that is compelling and vaguely intriguing. His life was built on a lie and seeing his paranoia dissolves into pure nothing was an exciting dramatisation of such complex emotions. The acting was great and the performances from everyone else was also great. Everything in this episode explains something in the story, unlike the first episode, which explains basically nothing to the audience. Though there are still questions to be answered from this episode, it explains why Looking Glass personality and why he does the things he does. We get to see more of what happened after the squid attack, which was something that I wanted to see since the show's announcement.

Overall, this episode is exciting and level-headed in every way. I liked it and I don't see much wrong with it. It doesn't pretend to have meaning, instead, it shows meaning through the lens of the character, which is undoubtedly ironic, because so far, there has been a lack of meaning to the series. I guess diving more into it would explain everything but who the hell got time for that?

AMAZING episode. A little bit overexplained but necesary.
jordavila19 November 2019
Everything is starting to make sense. Characters' built up took a little too long but that's what is needed in order to make it well.

I didn't like the overexplanation of some things by script and imaging (the cactus for example) but I guess it is made this way for those not familiarized with the original plot.

A great episode
k_g_barreto18 January 2020
I like when TV series has character focused episodes, centered in his point of view. The advantage of series over films it's that they have much more time to develop characters, even secondary ones. This episode is focused on Looking Glass, my favorite of the series, and fortunetely it's a really good episode, enjoyable and makes you like the Glass guy even more. My only problem is that the series isn't given enough answers and there is few episodes left. This episode gives some answers, things happen, but it is still a character focused episode, so...

But overall, it is a great episode.

So deeply beautiful
matteotoma_9820 April 2020
This episode makes me think how unfair the world is with everyone. ("White" and "black" people). Racism can be defeated with the culture of respect and, in my opinion, sometimes we need someone who can do something that other people CANNOT do (or do not want to do). Good acting of all the actors and good shooting and special effects.

This is actualy becoming something special. The new caracters are great and now the old ones are getting some shine too. This is a looking glass based episode and for the first time the story gets very interesting.

"We know there are other dimensions than this one, but this is the dimension where we live, and we will not live in fear"
TheLittleSongbird13 October 2020
Before watching 'Watchmen', "Little Fear of Lightning" was one of my most anticipated episodes. It is one of the few episodes that had been spoken of and written highly about extremely highly by fellow friends online and off and one of the most acclaimed episodes critically. Had heard and read so much about the plotting as well for "Little Fear of Lightning" and conceptually the episode intrigued me more than most episodes of the show.

"Little Fear of Lightning" in my deserves every ounce of its acclaim and it's the first episode to completely bowl me over with no reservations. Absolutely agree that it is one of the best of the show, even better than the show's first great episode "She Was Killed By Space Junk" and a lot better than the first two episodes and the previous one. It was with "Little Fear of Lightning" where 'Watchmen' properly hit its stride and became superb, rather than the very interesting and generally very good but very flawed show it was previously. It is also for me some of the best television seen in recent years, no joke which is true for 'Watchmen' at its best (even the show's lesser episodes were better than most shows at their worst).

'Watchmen' never disappointed when it came to the production values. "Little Fear of Lightning" is no exception. The expense it cost to make really shows in the gorgeous production design that has ambition and atmosphere all over it, and the photography as ever enhances that. The effects never jar either, what could easily have been cheap like the production values in Veidt's S.O.S message scene doesn't come across that way. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' music still positively unsettles and the clever use of sound still remains. As does the inspired and diverse soundtrack choices, have rarely heard "Careless Whisper" utilised so poignantly as it is here in "Little Fear of Lightning".

Some of the show's best direction can be seen here too. 'Watchmen' was extremely well directed in all its nine episodes, but the previous episodes did not have this amount of momentum, or were this dramatically focused. Other episodes may be a little more striking visually, but dramatically and in terms of atmosphere "Little Fear of Lightning" is one of the better directed episodes in my view. The writing has playful wit (in a subtle way) and biting grit, but there is also an emotional impact not there in the previous four episodes. There is a good deal of exposition in everything to do with Looking Glass, but it didn't feel too much or over-explained in my view. There are more knowing and affectionate refereces too, so one can tell it was made and written by people that had a passion for the source material.

Furthermore, story-wise this is the most compelling episode up to this halfway point and the first episode to not have a "trying to do too much" feel. The political intrigue and social issues are scarily relevant, there's still the uncompromising boldness that the source material has and there is a real sense of things properly moving forward. Veidt's character had been made much less of an enigma in "She Was Killed By Space Junk" but it is here in "Little Fear of Lightning" where his plan is eventually starting to be made clearer. Much of the episode though is centred around Looking Glass and his origin story. Looking Glass is a fascinating character and one of the show's rootable ones. His story is exciting and strange but also remarkably poignant.

All the characters are interesting and well written, but this is Looking Glass/Wade's show all the way. Everybody that stood out in the previous episodes (so Regina King, Jean Smart and Jeremy Irons) are great, but Tim Blake Nelson's performance is an emotionally complex tour de force. When it comes to individual performances in any 'Watchmen' episode, Nelson's is easily in the top 3 best.

Overall, absolutely outstanding. Proof that the show is well worth sticking with beyond the slow start. 10/10

Little Fear of Lightning
Prismark1013 January 2020
A self contained episode with two big revelations. Adrian Veidt had a method in his madness. He is in some moon orbiting Jupiter and those dead cloned servants of his have become useful to pass on a message.

More importantly we focus on Wade Tillman/Looking Glass (Tim Blake Nelson.) He has been haunted with his memories as a young man, doing the work of his church in Hoboken. He saw the after effects of some kind of alien squid attack in New York and this affected the course of his life and his relationship with women.

Veidt seems to had something to do with this, his idea of being an arch manipulator of events. It makes the saga tidier and there are several revelations regarding the Seventh Kavalary.

It still moves at a slow pace and I am not convinced that such glacial way to tell the story is needed.
