Great episode
swfc1516 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Not surprising that it was written by Bokenkamp and directed by McCarthey. It all came together tonight. And I can now look back and connect several dots to get the picture. There are still a couple of things i'm trying to figure out. But it was a great scene and performance by Spader, and some great subtle writing, that gave the aha moment. And now so many hanging moments or scenes from prior episodes make sense.

Spoiler alert

Finkle is Einhorn ...

She might be the first female character that I hate to the guts
jinggigi20 March 2019
The first two seasons, she showed quite bit of passion, curiosity and love. And then she's become such a useless liability. I even start to think if this show would be better off without her or some other role replacing this struggling character. Anyways, totoally a Spade fan. Love his voice and acting. Just amazing!

Nailbiter!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was fabulous. Action from the very start. Elizabeth is on the pro-Reddington side of the fence again, it appears. For the next hour, anyway. I'm sure she will torch it all again next week. The task force shows yet again their undying loyalty for someone who doesn't deserve it, but to be fair I choose to believe more that they are choosing to risk their freedom for Reddington, as he has done the same for each of them.

  • When did the death penalty immediately take effect? I thought it took years before someone is actually put to the death but apparently on television it takes 30 minutes.
  • I am digging the 'Leverage' type theme the show has adapted lately when pulling off a heist. Super entertaining!
  • Wow, Samar is even more impressive with the multiple language skill.
  • Aram is not a bumbling ignorant man-child. Please stop trying to turn his character into one. The toilet seat had a lid. You mean to tell me he had no time to lower the lid to sit, but all that time to stare at the keys sitting at the bottom of the toilet before picking them up and then shaking them under an air dryer instead of wiping them on his shirt or vest? No. He's brilliant and nerdy and a bit naive, but not completely stupid.
  • Another reason I love Cooper. He's loyal to the very end. The little exchange between Cooper and Red warmed my cold dead heart.
  • Oh. My. God. Elizabeth is sitting in a room alone pouting because she still doesn't know who Reddington really is. That's what she's worried about? That's why she wants to be a witness? She won't get to find out his secret if he's dead? I hope when Red does escape or get clemency he at least treats Elizabeth like she deserves. The writers honestly have to hate the Keen character. I mean, did she kill your dog or something? This is becoming comical.
  • I really try not to blame the actor for a character's shortcomings, but I'm beginning to really dislike Boone's one facial expression. I still don't think she's the reason Keen is a despicable character, but she doesn't seem to help matters any.
  • I know Reddington is going nowhere. They're not going to kill off the reason the show is still on the air, but I still teared up while he was eating his final meal.
  • Never have the words "I love you" meant less than they do coming out of her mouth. I'd be afraid to see how you treat people you hate.
  • Cooper. Loyal. Great man! This is how you treat friends, Elizabeth.
  • Wow, they're cutting it close. Also, I am okay with never seeing another bug death again.
  • Ugh. YOU SEE WHAT YOU REDUCED REDDINGTON TO? He has always been larger than life, a huge force of charismatic nature but he has finally been reduced to...human. James Spader is amazing.
  • Are you kidding me? Why would you hold her hand? She's the only reason Reddington is in the position he is right now! She is still lying to his face! This is dumb. I'm over it.
  • WHAT THE -- this is where you end it????? Oh, wait. I'm binge watching. I'm okay. I can immediately watch the next episode.

The last five minutes of this episode were pretty intense. A crooked president and the only person who can take him down is about to be killed? I didn't see that coming. Elizabeth's lack of empathy or remorse is what's killing this series. With her single facial expression, I can honestly not tell whether or not she regrets the chain of events she set off. That last scene with her smug face renewed my irritation for her as a human being. Can't wait to keep watching to see her hopefully get what she's owed.

Ressler talks sense
drnikic2 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"In the end Liz, he's just a man who loves you very much" And she's STILL going on about his true identity. Pathological fixation much?

She wants to watch the execution in case Red tells her his identity? This has gone beyond ridiculous, even by Blacklist standards.

I'm not sure if it's just dodgy writing, or that the writers/show runners WANTED us to end up loathing Liz. If the latter, congratulations, you seem to have succeeded with multiple viewers/reviewers.

Also, guilty as charged of being a bleeding heart lib, but the procedure of the death penalty makes me feel sick.

The Bugs Are Back in Town
Hitchcoc30 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the cliffhanger episode which finds Reddington strapped to the table in the death chamber. We know he will not be executed because he eace has several more seasons. Although, at the end of this episode he has not received a stay. A German ambassador is in danger and Red knows how to save her, but the dorky President and his associate, an awful woman, won't budge. She dies infested with those beetles from a previous episode. For the moment, Liz makes peace with Reddington although he has done nothing but love and protect her. It will be interesting to see what happens with the politics and what will happen to Reddington once he avoids the needle.

Adding insult to injury
theoriginalantiblonde13 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As a traumatic brain injury survivor that has lived with (real) aphasia for over twenty years, I'm finding Samar's so called "travails" with it even more painful (and boring) to watch than Liz's betrayal of Reddington, and this season's relentless dependency on last minute rescues. It looks like the writers are resting on past laurels all way around.

Aphasia isn't just an occasional occurrence as being exhibited by Samar's behaviour here. Her verbal and mental interruptions as being presented here are nothing more than the occasional brain farts most people experience from time to time! Aram talks about other symptoms she's supposedly experiencing, but they aren't showing up in her day to day behaviour. Now of course every situation is going to be different, but most people living with it are searching for specific words non stop when they are trying to communicate. Their native language when heard is usually now foreign to them also. You are constantly juggling, trying to interpret what you've just heard while trying to guess (and retain) what you want to say back. When writing, the words you've struggled to remember, disappear as you try to write them down -- as they do when you try to say them out loud. Word substitution (to use the word "word" loosely here) is pretty much constant. It is continual, and it is exhausting! It can take me hours to remember one specific word -- if my brain is running at top speed -- and I'm lucky. And that is after seven years of speech therapy and constant work since. Repetition and rote are (unfortunately) not only your best friend, but pretty much your only one now. Trying to read is also a fun thing. You are staring at a page, looking at these now foreign symbols, once again trying to interpret something that once was as easy as breathing. I, in particular, freaked out when I first tried to read, because I didn't remember learning how to do it -- it was just something I had been doing (and loved doing) since I was four years old. The idea of having to learn how to do it again from scratch, eighteen years later, now that caused me quite the panic attack.

Now, Samar's character might be indeed be suffering from aphasia, but as exhibited here, it is a very mild version, and definitely not something that would be likely to cause her to stop working as an agent. Yes, her version of it would be unsettling to first experience, until you figured out what it was, and learned some strategies with which to compensate for it with, but... I'd trade my version of it for hers in a heartbeat. No paycheck required.

The writers could have found this all out in a very short time, and given the actor who portrays Samar's character something worthy of her skill to leave the show by. But apparently they are all out surfing on past accomplishments.

CAN'T STAND LIZ
vivalasvegas200817 March 2019
She turns in Red a few weeks ago, knowing that if convicted he will get the death penalty. Now she is all upset he got the death penalty. So now she is running around trying to save his life. Talk about stupid. Red wouldn't be in this mess if she didn't make the phone call in the first place. Again how stupid!

Losing its greatness
anniedowell26 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show used to be my favorite. Now it is painful to watch. Liz has become stale. At times, she's down right annoying. We need more Red. The prison story has grown tired. Not to mention that it suggests his death sentence is imminent. It takes YEARS for that to happen, sometimes decades. I keep hoping it will get back to where it was, but I am doubtful.

Bad.
totolici-alin215 April 2019
The show is heading in the wrong direction. These "last second till bomb explodes or the main characters dies" scenes should stay wher they belong: back in the 90's. And Jennifer Ferrin does some poor and cringy acting.

I HATE Moreau! I can't stand his stupid voice!! I wish he wouldn't talk. And he is one of the worst actors ever. This isn't a very helpful review (whatever that means anyway), but I despise this guy so much, I almost don't want to watch this episode AND the next one that has him in it :(. I hate him. So much.

Literally the worst scale model
MikeGMitchell18 March 2019
The intro with the "White House" - I built a better scale model in elementary school. And I didn't get paid a ton of money to make the transition shot look real either.
