Great back to basics retro episode
bustedbrain1610 April 2019
This one really harkened back to the early seasons. It reminded me of seasons 1 & 2, when Sam and Dean were still somewhat rookie Hunters, not knowing what exactly they were up against or how to fight it (and the Ghost Facers reference was great). And seeing Jack interact with the local teens was really reminiscent of early Castiel, with no concept of social skills or even being human at all.

Really good episode!

Warning: Spoilers
A great monster-of-the-week episode. Kohonta was a great monster, but the story was somewhat cliche, (still entertaining tho). Jack's side story on the other hand was amazing! Great to see him making friends. It was funny, awkward and sad. Hope to see more of them in the future. It was also really funny to see Ghostfacers again! A 9,5/10 episode.

Good but saw it coming...
songod-9500324 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It was obvious Jack's attempt to fit in or hang out was going to fail. That or he'd have to rescue them all using his powers and they "townies" would freak on him. Both happened in a way as Jack misused his powers to impress, mortally wounded one of the girls, and then healed her with the same powers. After, he was told to stay away; leave them all alone. Tough lesson to learn but I knew that he'd learn it one way or another. He can't just fit in.

At first I was a bit put off at how unable to fit in he was. He has been around people for two years now and I thought he'd be better at it. Then I remembered he'd only been around hunters, angels, and witches. No real human contact.

The main story was good. Nothing exceptional, but good. As through all the seasons, Jared and Jensen make it worth watching.

As the show moves into it's announced 15th and final season I see more stand alones than a huge arc. I mean, what could they do that would top the world ending arcs the show has already fought and beaten? Unless an old enemy they though defeated comes back; perhaps Yellow Eyes. Or maybe God will stop by and decide he's had enough ofg us and is going to bring about the end? The Winchesters Vs God! lol

Loved this episode so much!
nomanjo22 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this episode so much! The monster was one of the best I've seen this season because it really freaked me out, I got goosebumps and shivers up my spine every time there was a scene with him. I'm getting the heebie jeebies just thinking about it. Also, I really cared for the all the characters in the woods (the sheriff and his son, that couple) more than I usually do. I felt they really had some depth to them and I was cheering them on, I was so afraid the sheriff or his son would die near the end.

I also loved how we got a moment of confrontation between the sheriff and Sam and Dean about who they really were and why they didn't try to show the world what really lurks in the shadows. I always find scenes like that very interesting.

And Jack! I love him so much and it was so nice to see him get some of his own screen time. It was so fun to see him interact with other kids, he reminded me so much of Cas when he would interact with humans in earlier seasons, haha! I was so happy to see him make some friends, even though the happy times didn't last very long.

But I love when the writers add in little things like movie nights on Tuesdays, it really gives some depth to what goes on in their lives when they aren't tackling the bad guys. Now I just imagine them all in the Dean Cave spending time together and that makes me so happy, so thank you for adding that line, those little things mean a lot.

The soundtrack to the episode was also very nice. I just loved everything honestly. Can't wait to see what is next

Is Jack the most powerful being in the universe or not?
dontspamme-7607822 March 2019
How long before Jack gets some wherewithall? Doesn't being the most powerful being in the universe give him a leg up on getting up to speed with the ways of the world?

Nonetheless.

I actually am writing about the death of this week's monster. I lived in California for a few years, and our house had giant jade plants flanking the front door. We had a frost where the temp went to the mid-20s for about 5 nights in a row. Those jade plants melted into piles of goo. It looked just like the monster. Except it took the plants a few weeks to dissolve.

That scene brought back memories.

A better monster of the week is wrecked by Jack becoming an idiot
CubsandCulture1 November 2021
The material around the Wendigo clone is one of the better one off monsters. I liked the father-son story that got included. The design of the monster and its death is one of the boldest in the show's run. Overall the Sam, Dean side of the episode is pretty entertaining.

However Jack loses all common sense in this episode. I simply don't buy Jack so cavalierly using his powers. The other teens underreact and the entire sequence is unbelievable. This is some of the worst writing in this season.

Neither here nor there
Kingslaay1 April 2019
We have seen some really high quality episodes in SPN recently. So a filler episode is noticeable. It was good but it did not deliver much on the story front. Jack engages with the kids in the neighborhood and almost kills one of them but we know that won't go too far. It keeps his story without much of a soul going on. What was unique was the unique monster shown in SPN, a one created out of Native American legend. This is thinking outside the box and creating a new kind of monster, the sky is always the limit in the SPN universe. Can't wait for next week.

Cousin Oliver Syndrome & Shark Jumping
StorieLuver25 April 2019
"Cousin Oliver Syndrome" is the TV term for when a new, young character with an implausible backstory is haphazardly added to a long-running, successful show whose beloved leads *may be* starting to show signs of their age (like there's something wrong with that). The theory behind this forced addition is that this new, younger character should attract a new, younger audience and reinvigorate the show, but that doesn't happen often. Instead, historically the introduction of this new, ill-fitting character has signaled the show's demise (in other words, "Cousin Oliver Syndrome" is a specific form of jumping the shark). It is named for the character who was introduced in the final six episodes of "The Brady Bunch," but it definitely applies to what has happened to our beloved "Supernatural" over the last two seasons with the introduction of the Winchesters' pseudo little brother/foster son Bambi Boy Jack. With this episode, it has been made abundantly clear that Bambi (and to a lesser extent, the Lebanon-townie groupies as well) are SPN's "Cousin Oliver." Apparently, the show runners have sadly lost faith in Jensen and Jared to carry the show themselves and/or run out of ideas. Ironically, way back in Season 4, we had an actual episode titled "Jump the Shark," where the Winchester brothers met their REAL younger brother, Adam. With that very title choice, the show runners flat-out admitted that they knew adding a third, younger Winchester would "jump the shark." Too bad they didn't remember that during the two most recent seasons. And, on the topic of the old seasons...here's an interesting experiment: watch one of the new episodes, and then watch an old (Season 1-5) episode immediately after. Guaranteed, you will not feel like you are watching the same show. Even the lighting and music are different!

Getting old
shwetafabm15 August 2020
The whole hunting/living a normal life is a huge huge part of the show especially with Sam. But 14 years and how much can you possibly stretch this. Same with Dean, something happens and they start whining again. Anyway the whole thing is a mess to the point this core conflict has lost all meaning, i mean just a few episodes ago Sam was telling Charlie to keep hunting and said she was running away... Jeez so not very Sam. I think i can appreciate his leadership thing coming into play, it just leads upto not much. As for Jack... As a reviwer said yup this is the cousin oliver syndrome, at this point you have to accept that the show isn't about Sam and Dean and if you haven't started caring for the character it is going to be frustrating. Jack is basically Sam's storyline in a way. S8-11 had an arc with Dean really replacing Sam's part in the original, and now Jack is... As for the episode. I found it a tab boring. I actually quite liked Jack's part. Motw was whatever.

Stupid one.
mihaiionescuu4 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The logic in this episode was really stupid. I mean Sam and Dean decide to leave Jack alone? Really? Leave the son of the devil alone with full powers? And not only that but they give him a list of things to buy from a store.. A job involving him being in contact to humans!
