Great Concept; New Designer Needed
debrakay-0517329 September 2022
I love Jonathan and I what he's doing restoring old houses but I've yet to watch an episode where I was blown away by the design. Most of the time I'm saying no, no, no! Nothing seems cohesive in the design. These people spend close to 200 grand or more and I'm wondering where it goes. I hate to say this but I agree with a lot of the other reviews that say that the designer is not up to par. She just put a small blue hexagon tile in the entry way and mud room and then chose a dark gray larger hexagon tile in the kitchen and the rest of the first floor was refinished hardwood. Too many flooring styles on the same floor which made it seem even more chopped up and not cohesive. She also used a garish blue color for trim in the kitchen(with dark green appliances, which could have and should have been gorgeous) and dining room. Top this off with the most heinous, busy green print wallpaper in the office(same floor) and you see what I mean about not having a cohesive design. They spent 200 grand and were expecting a new laundry room with a small addition and they got a small laundry closet(no room to fold, hang items or even store laundry items) I would have been so let down by this and I got the feeling the husband wasn't impressed. I'm not impressed with any of her choices from paint color to flooring to light fixtures or anything quite frankly. Like I said, I just love Jonathan and his mission to restore old houses but I feel the designer has got to go.

Jon is Great/Love his authenticity/please ditch the designer
aprilmdietz14 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This isn't personal - Kristina could be a great designer for city lofts of cookie cutter builder spec homes, but her style is directly contrast to Jon. He understands the importance of preserving the home but bringing it into modern times without losing everything that makes it special - the designer, on the other hand, either doesn't like historical architecture, understand it, or both because her final designs erase the history and really cheapen the houses- her style is going to tank this show. Please make a change. This is the first HGTV show that's gotten me hooked since Fixer Upper - please PLEASE change the designer -

Enjoy the attention to detail.

The host is fun to watch as he gets excited about all aspects of the renovation. I love the desire to honor the history of the homes while making them livable for a modern family.

I've read multiple complaints about the designer. Actually I think her work is overall good. Although there have been some unfortunate choices (beautiful exterior trim with no visible contrast to the wall color, large neon light of words in bedroom, stark modern black/white painting in otherwise cozy dining room), most of her designs have been attractive and clearly what the homeowners want/in their style.

Happy homeowners should be more important than striving to cater to the varying tastes of viewers. I think the homeowners being pleased consistently will be a strong factor in the shows success, in addition to the likeable host and quality work.

P. S. You hear that some of these shows are fake, with hosts not actually doing the work portrayed. Haha, after watching 3 episodes, I find myself really hoping he is legitimately that involved.

Fun to watch, nice guy

There are a lot of "fixer" shows out there, this seems genuine. The host Jonathan Knight seems to be truly devoted. We get his passion for restoring historic Northeastern farmhouses. I'm from a Mayflower family, so I Love that. His personality is sweet, energetic and someone who wants to make his folks happy.

The hosts really seem to genuinely care about the stories behind these beautiful old homes and do their best to breathe new life into each one.

Love the show hate the designer!

Jonathon, please lose this designer, her color choices are so aweful it makes me not want to watch anymore. She has no taste when it comes to color. Yuck! She also presents herself as the star of the show, but should be kept in the background or better yet lose her, you can do so much better with a designer who can really design a home.

Finally a new show that's refreshing!
DingelBerry23 July 2022
I love Jonathan Knight, he is genuinely sincere, not a drama queen and gets his hands dirty doing the remodels with his very funny sidekick designer. I love their ideas and we don't get to see too much of his personal life on the show.

Love Jonathan; Lose his Designer
lerdos5 May 2021
He's great and seems very sincere. The designer acts so phony and her exaggerated facial and hand gestures are hard to watch! She thinks she's funny but she's just "overacting" and detracts from the actual story. Lose the bad actor designer or include less of her!!

She NEEDS to go!
bozinski25 August 2022
I adore Jonathan...his personality is suave and a refreshing take, when doing his thing on the show. But that assistant has no business on a show, especially one that exemplifies good hearty designs and having a laugh or two which is so nice. Its wholly her personality. Not deliberately wanting to piss anyone off, but she offers no "good design" just lousy practicality. Please try-on another assistant and move this one aside.

Love Jonathan.
jmariani-5979913 June 2022
Jonathan seems like such a good guy. Caring and real. I enjoy watching him and the passion he has for what he is doing. He is a definite 10. What drags this show down is the designer. I feel bad saying that because she also seems like a nice person but her design choices are either too much or too little, never striking just the right balance. I give her a 4. She has too much control for someone who's mediocre at what she does. Jonathan would be better off finding someone who is a top-notch designer. Anyway, I still watch because I like what he's doing a lot.

Not as good as last year
bradandhobbes26 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really like Johnathan and his crew. He's been refreshingly down to earth compared to a lot of HGTV hosts who get full of themselves after a season or two. This year's first two episodes are a let down compared to season 1. Maybe he's spread a little too thin with the touring schedule, I don't know. But there's a lot of fluff in the show now that wasn't there before. If his team are going to both fix and properly update farmhouses, and also make a go of showing us the nuts and bolts of how they do it, then nothing wastes of time like dried arrangements, stamping window treatments and painting a chicken coop black, along with arranging beach sand and pallet wood as a mini boardwalk need to go. The real deal of how architecture has to be altered in a deep renovation hold real interest to folks who are looking to do their own homes over. The other thing is consistency. Replacing a main residential stairway because it "may not pass code" ALWAYS needs to be at least 3 feet wide with a continuous handrail to make it past a building inspection. I don't know how they ever let this detail slip by without at least mentioning it. Just saying...

Enjoying the show - Can't stand the designer
LallybrochLass1813 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I first saw Jon and Kristina on the Rock the Block, and it was obvious that Jon was a sweetie, and Kristina's designs are terrible. Honestly, you can build/renovate/restore any house and do a great job, but if the designer hasn't a clue (or doesn't share the host's philosophy), GET SOMEONE ELSE! I started watching the first season and everytime the homeowner says that something is important to them, Kristina chops it up, changes it, or does something to make the prized possession into a piece of trash. Who the heck paints an entire staircase including all the railings BRIGHT BLUE?? Or kitchen cabinets TURQUOISE? And Jon is so sweet, he can't disagree with her. He tries, and she gives him that 'you don't have a clue' look, and then the beautiful prized possession is boom! Gone. Chopped up and made over into trash. Aargh! HGTV - stop casting copycats and inferior designers. We can't take you seriously anymore.

LOVE JONATHAN - Kristina not so much
champz-387292 October 2022
I love the show, the renovations and Jonathan's personality and excitement for what he does. However, I don't like the designs of Kristina and her personality is definitely off-putting. She talks too much, tries to take over the show and her cackling laughter is quite annoying. He needs someone that more compliments his personality where there is better chemistry and better design. This is one of the best home renovation shows on television but it is definitely spoiled by her. A little less Kristina, more Jonathan and even more of his farm and animals would improve things. Sitting with the clients and getting their style works better than taking them to side trips that picks out a color they like. I honestly mute the volume when she goes on and on.

Renovation with heart
reyesd-6656116 April 2021
One of my favorite memories is going to a NKOTB concert with a friend of mine who's mom worked with my dad! To see Jonathan renovate farmhouses is amazing! The way he's so passionate about what he does and.has such an amazing talent for it! I love getting to see him and his family, and I listen for the NKOTB puns. I can't wait to see more of the show! Thank you Jonathan for making your show and for having a beautiful heart!

The New Kid On The Block!!!
jeanluc291115 March 2023
I love Maine Cabin Masters, New Town, and Fixer Upper but the New Kid On The Block 'Farmhouse Fixer' is something special! Jonathan Knight is what makes the show so amazing. He is warm, funny, passionate, and supremely experienced in farmhouse renovation. Obviously, he is renovating farmhouses for those that can afford both the house and the fee. And I don't always agree with removing antique features, but Jonathan and his team do an amazing renovation with TLC on these farmhouses. The interior design I don't always like either, but it's not my farmhouse and the owners seem to love the overall transformation! I hope we se see a second season soon!!! I'm addicted!

Love it!
cheriparisedwards6 January 2024
I've been binging in home refurbish/design shows and this so far is my favorite. It's less contrived than some of the others andin my opinion many of the designs are liveable and elegant. I'm not a fan of the pastels but I am happy to see colors other than white which is really boring and sterile to me. They don't overdo the designs either. His passion to preserving the history of the homes gives the show a layer of authenticity that is missing in some of the others and it is nice that he often includes historical artifacts. I'm glad it is being renewed and look forward to seeing the new season.

Was an eight after first season, now a six after second
txriverotter1 October 2022
The first season I had my complaints, but overall enjoyed the show. The second season, though, seems like every episode is more than half-filled with fluff.

I'm glad he's happily married, I love his farm and his Mom, and that he tries new things. However....and that's a big HOWEVER...I want to see the construction, restoration, design and end result of the homes they renovate. I don't mind a little fluff, but now every show is chock-full of nothing but side excursions to his home, shopping, doing ridiculous crafts, phony meeting set ups in stores so the designer can then complain about "this is why I always shop alone." And other miscellaneous stuff I don't care to watch.

Please, please, please, drop most of the fluff. Just a little introduction at home before leaving to begin the reno part of the show works perfectly. Then show us the work being done, the progress and good, long shots of the end result.

Also, what is the deal with the costs this show projects. I cannot fathom the work they do costing this much. It must all go towards having "Jonathan Knight" renovate your home, so you can say he did. Otherwise, where the heck is this money going?!!

And lastly, please tell the designer to chill a bit. I'm not a fan of a lot of her designs, but most of the homeowners seem to love them, so they're getting what they wanted. But she is so loud and obnoxious; I get the feeling she's nervous to be on TV and is over-acting, trying to be extra funny to hide that fact. Maybe have her work with someone to calm her down before the director calls "Action!".

I really hope, if they stay on air, they'll seriously listen to viewers and fix some of these things. I see a lot of people have complained about the designs and the designer, as well as the fluff. I see some questions about cost as well, but I don't see that changing. Although I cannot imagine where that money is going except into Jonathan Knight's pocket.

Bottom line for me, if this show continues to be nothing but fluff, I see no reason to continue watching. Fast-forwarding thru most of a show to see a handful of quick, short images of results is not enjoyable viewing.

Substance Please!
OperaTarte20 October 2022
Season One - much enjoyed discovering legendary farm-houses. I love being able to learn "history" on such an enjoyable level of bringing something back into usefulness. Season Two - morphing into the personal that I have no interest in. Several shows of a similar nature "reality" are doing the same thinking that I am anticipating with bated-breath to somehow be privy to their life. Wrong assumption. This show will lose me mid-season if it continues into his second life of show-biz. The designs are losing in the imagination & character department. Don't go the way of "Home Town" - they lost my interest 2 years ago.

Please keep but change
luciegirl-545539 March 2022
I love this show for the host and the old houses he brings to light. I hope he really loves this work and is doing some of it himself as it shows The designer seems the wrong fit to this style and rhythm. Would love to continue to watch but the designer needs to change.

Love it and the New England setting.
corrinnedowns10 April 2021
Love this show so far. Haven't watched any HGTV in many years, but I love the New England setting and the passion of the crew and their love of old properties. I question some of the repeat bold colors of the designer but I'm sure she's talented and knows more than I do:)
