Episode 404
bobcobb30116 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It does not feel like they planned this season out properly. I am just not hooked in. It also feels like one scene works, and then we get 2-3 bad ones after it. That is not the formula for a successful episode.

It's Getting Better! ...however....
WarrenPiecz12 October 2020
Are any of you old enough to remember an 80's Brian DePalma mafia comedy called "Wise Guys"?

There's a character in "Wise Guys" named Frank "Fixer" Accalvano. He was played magnificently campy and totally over-the-top by "Captain" Lou Albano.

Last night, watching episode #4, watching Salvatore Esposito's mannerisms, his eye-rolls, his larger-than-life histrionics, even his wee moustache, I swear - I SWEAR - he had to have based his character on Lou Albano's Frank "Fixer" Accalvano from "Wise Guys". I even pulled up some stills from "Wise Guys" to refresh my memory, and looked at them side-by-side stills from "Fargo", and it's uncanny.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, you understand....Keith Richard has been a role model in film, you know.....but.....mmmm...."Wise Guys" was a completely over-the-top comedy; "Fargo" is supposed to be a drama.

Anyway, I'm glad it's getting better!

I'm finally into it
kirbie-344815 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
My expectations have changed, as I'm starting to get the hang for this type of narrative/storytelling. I no longer feel let down by it because nothing is happening. Now, I don't even care about that, and I am finally just enjoying it. It might be that I am needing a major distraction due to the election not being called yet, and it's nov 5th, but whatever it is, I'm finally digging it. Also, can someone just kill that psycho Italian brother already. He's obviously nothing but trouble. He plays the role like he is actually psychotic; major mental Heath issues with that Italian BIG brother. Ain't nobody got time for that. Also, wtf is The crazy lady doing with the little black girl? What are her plans? I have a feeling she's running the whole operation (behind the scenes) even if nobody knows it yet, not even her. What is up with that? Also, does she just steal a bunch of blow from her job? I guess hospitals had a lot of coke just hanging around back then. Interesting.

Raylan Givens Lives! His Name is Deafy!
paulrec12 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the similarities last week might be a fluke when they introduced Timothy Olyphant's character, but this week I'm certain. Deafy was most certainly written with Justified and Olyphant in mind. Dialogue is spot on, and I swear I can hear a Kentucky accent even thought Deafy is supposedly from Salt Lake City.

This is a fantastic nod to one of TV's greatest characters and one of drama's (and comedy's) best writers.

Tens all day baby!
coreysilvavl12 October 2020
For starters, I dont know how any of the first 4 episodes are rated under a 9. That is just pure poppycock. People who dont even like this show are still rating it poorly so screw those people. Like it or not this show is on another level. This is amazing TV all around.

Things Simmer/Who's In Charge
Hitchcoc13 October 2020
There are so many things on lying beneath the surface, forcing the characters to attack and withdraw. The Utah sheriff is getting better and better. He seems utterly fearless in the middle of the cesspool he is invading. Ultimately, he wants those two women. The undertaker makes a decision that is setting a whole bunch of bad stuff in motion, and a discovery in the room of that crazy nurse will have consequences down the road. Everything is now in motion for the duration.

This season has very sloppy writing..,
lars-larsson19 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Some examples: Why doesn't Calamita simply drive through the fire in the intro to episode (like the hold-up guys do at the end of the scene)?

Why doesn't Chris Rock's character have any body guards stationed at his house, given that they're pretty much at war with the Italians (or can at least expect some form of retaliation for the gun theft)?

Finally! A character who is in over his head!
rmccabe-3969528 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The season has been fantastic so far, but one thing has been missing: the character who is way in over their head. S1 had Lester, S2 had Ed & Peggy, and S3 had the Stussy Brothers. But who is this character in S4? The answer: Thurman Smutny.

Finally we have that old Fargo feel back, and just to prove it, we heard the S1 theme reprised here. This show is so genius.

As for the other characters, honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Tarantino was involved in this. Unlike other TV shows, this FEELS like a movie. Something only Breaking Bad and very few other shows have achieved.

I cannot wait to continue watching.

Fargo doing what Fargo does
ha77y73ad973 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This whole series is just gearing up to a big ending.... hopefully. The twists nd turns of the characters and with all the story lines coming together this isnt the best series overall but this still pulls all of the tropes together.

Every character is now connected to one of the other stories. With the downward spiral of the escaped convicts passing money to their family to pay the Don off thats just been robed can only cause further stories and madness throughout this series. Every time the story returns to the nurse she is just a scene stealer is the true Coen Brother humor. Cops are always central to the story but took them a few episodes to get involved but now they've been bedded in i cant get enough. The Marshal is almost the flip side of Billy Bob Thornton's hitman from season one. Not in terms of character thats the same! Just that hes a lawman instead of a criminal.

Overall I the series is truly growing on me and i hope for more chaos to ensue. The characters have been layed down and now the story can come to the fore front of the series.

Going downhill fast
per-18114 October 2020
Season 1 and two were absolutely brilliant, as good as the original Fargo movie. Season three was good, with occasional glimpses of greatness. But season 4? What is going on here? It's just weird.

The script and the direction seem influenced by some hallucinogenic mushrooms, and the mix of over- and underacting is appalling. Overacting especially in the cases of Timothy Olyphant trying way too hard to be Billy Bob Thornton (and failing miserably), and Jessie Buckley's silly walk and phony teeth. Underacting in the form of the Italian guy playing Schwartzman's brother (two facial expressions, none of them convincing), and Chris Rock, whose acting chops are in the am-dram category.

The frequent occurance of not sub-titled strange languages is also annoying, and displays contempt for the viewer. I really hope this will improve, because I know the writer/director/producer can do so much better.

Slow boring and going nowhere

Keep thinking it will get better but still plodding along with no direction and just nothing really happening. Will stick with it but what a disappointment compared to the first 3 season which were all incredible.

Very disappointing
ashegardiner115 May 2021
I've picked this episode to comment on Season 4 because this is when I decided to give up :( The previous seasons had lots of humour, 'Minnesota nice' and great characters - this season has none of that. The only great quirky character is Timothy Olyphant's Mormon detective, and he's not in it enough to carry the whole thing. I'm rewatching Season 1 & realising what's missing - I used to tell everyone it was the best show on TV, I won't any more. Seasons 1 & 2 are outstanding - this one has made me sad.

I give up
born_naughty4 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Episodes 1 and 2 were a mess. No direction, hard to follow, somehow too slow and too fastpaced at the same time.

Episode 3 had a few good scenes in them.

Episode 4 is slightly better but now the poor acting and casting is more apparent. Nurse Mayflower is the only character who's lines are well written and executed. But her character doesn't make any sense. In the previous episodes she killed some people. It stood to reason this was on behalf of Josto and the Italians. Judging by the conversation in this episode and the encounter in the previous one that doesn't seem to be the case though. So why is she randomly killing people in the hospital as a nurse?

Josto's brother only has one facial expression. He's supposed to be the crazy eyed brother of the boss but he's overdoing it. Timothy Olyphant i trying I guess ans Schwartzmann is there too.

What might be missing most of all is anything that makes this "Fargo". Fargo has a certain sense of humor, a certain pacing, a certain atmosphere that makes it distinctly Fargo. Season 4 has none of those traits.

I'm giving up on this season and will give season 5 a try since it's getting better ratings.

More anti American nonsense.
SleeplessVirus25 October 2020
If you want a simplistic depressing assessment of US history this is the episode for you. If you can ignore 30 seconds of stupidity than there is a lot of action and plot turns here. So far it's not as good as previous seasons.

Came Grinding to a halt
dan-6661029 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So season 1 was great. 2 was still fun. This has been long, slow, directionless, and we are out. I see an even lower rated 4th season, and chatter about a 5th if Hawley get around to it. Nobody cares so later.
