Session 9 (2001)
truly the most terrifying experience in all my 31 years of life, and i doubt anything will affect me as much again
i'm not going to write an extensive review on this film i just hope i can add another perspective on what for me, is THE most disturbing horror film i have ever seen. it will stay with you for a long time after the final credits i guarantee you that much.
to further convince you i am 31 years old, the last time i watched session 9 must be at least 10+ years ago and i still haven't managed to work up enough courage to go through it all again...i am completely serious!, and be aware i am not some type of emotionally fragile person who thinks nightmare on elm street was creepy just so you know. even so i'm certain you will still get the 'no film has ever freaked me out yet' types which will make it all the more satisfying once it has been engraved on their brain (i was one of them).
i guarantee you 100%! they will not be so confident after an hour and a half of this.psychological horror movies are easily the best genre especially for people who have a very active imagination like myself, although your curiosity will not do you any favours at all after experiencing this.
the setting, atmosphere and the voices you hear throughout are the only 3 things that will change your perception on what you consider to be a true classic horror.nothing even comes close to it (the shining,Blair witch project and the exorcist may as well be a children's film compared to session 9) and judging by all the comments it has received i am not alone in my opinion. i actually have this stored on my hard drive for for what must be exceeding 6 months but still haven't managed to put myself through it again. a masterpiece that you will be thinking about for a long while after the credits roll. truly terrifying...enjoy!
The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008)
The Worst Horror Film EVER!!
i felt compelled to comment on this travesty of a film and hopefully help others avoid wasting their lives watching this garbage firstly, if your attempting to make a horror movie actually make it scary. this is on par with a children's cartoon in terms of actual scares and the attempts they make are just laughable.
secondly, you wait and wait for something to actually happen and then it just ends! i was expecting a molly hartley possession sequence with some sort of rampage but it just doesn't happen. the ending is so laughable you feel like putting your head through the TV.
whoever is responsible for this movie should never EVER work in film making again. trust me, do not waste your time with this, it really is that bad.
RocknRolla (2008)
RocknRolla
It's maybe unfair to expect that this film would be on par or even exceed guy Ritchie's 2 finest achievements in lock stock and snatch, but it doesn't even come close which is a shame because i really expected it to be another masterpiece.
The storyline isn't very interesting at all, most of the film is just plain boring and you don't really share any emotions with any of the characters like you usually would in Ritchie's movies. it has some good points and some of the scenes are entertaining and amusing like you would expect but these are very few and far between to keep you enthralled for the duration.
Thandie Newton is very nice to look at and Gerard butler does a solid enough performance without being spectacular but the rest of the cast are easily forgettable which is easy to see when most scenes have no substance to keep you wanting more.
let's hope Ritchie's next chapter goes back to what he does best, we know he's capable of making amazing films so here's hoping for a quick recovery to make up for this lacklustre effort.
