Can someone plz explain the plot?
17 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Trying to Keep it short; this Belgian CIA guy is killed and the murder is set up. Suzanne is checking out the murder. Ok clear. Now what did the Belgian guy do? Why did the white guy Dave (friend of) kill him? I mean I understand that Suzanne needed to be killed because she might have blown the case open (she is classically good) and from that the movie continuous, but I do not get the initial reason. This might be the biggest plothole ever. The movie is based on nothing. Just a random murder orchistrated by the bad guy. Getting him into a lot of trouble, but no one knows why.

Seriously! Why was the Belgian guy killed?

Extended: Very Predictable, cliche and unnecessary gory. 3 for effort.

Simply tedious
5 October 2015
I consider myself to be a well educated man. I consider myself to be somewhat of a movie connoisseur (mind you; somewhat only). The latter less then the first, but still I do often like (low budget) movies where imagery plays an imported part and the story is a little less obvious then your standard marvel movie.

This movie shows some amazing imagery, but that is about it.

I had no clue, no clue at all, on what this movie was all about. I cannot imagine people could have any concept on the story without first reading up on its content online.

It starts somewhat promising, but that is very short lived. After about ten minutes in, you will lose any idea of what the story is trying to portrait and it will not (at) all fall together at the end. Actually the end was very disillusioning to me since I kept hoping on some form of explanation.

I honestly don't say this very often but: don't waste your time. You will regret spending it on this piece. To illustrate, there are hardly any conversations in it. There is no story, only imagery.

I tried to get some sense out of it, after watching it. Googling and reading up on its supposed meaning. I could place a few things when I really force- ably tried, but most of the comments and supposed meanings where just plucked from the air imho.

So what about the high meta-rating? In some cases I honestly don't like a movie, but I can imagine someone does. In this case... No, just no. This is a prime example of a pretentious rating. Sure the director and writer Carruth knew exactly what he was doing, but I don't believe any of the, so called, (positive) critics knew what this movie was about.

Then again I might be stupid. Don't watch the movie.

Game of Thrones: The Rains of Castamere (2013)
Season 3, Episode 9

I am starting to get bored with this
3 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
So I just watched episode after episode seeing the story line of rob stark being build, just to see it all end by a silly backstabber. This was one mayor story line so I am wondering how they are gonna fill this gap. fair enough they have a lot of story lines available to elaborate on.

Also I saw it coming from miles away. Very obviously set up. And uhm what is robs army gonna do know? just disband?

Only Daenerys's story line is still watchable, but they're cutting corners on that one as well. Did they just sack a city with 3 men?

So yeah, I just about had it with the cutting of corners, I understand that in the books daenerys will not reach anything interesting for a very long long time. in the meanwhile the Melisandra's story may be elaborated, but I am a bit skeptical about the god of light storyline, its WAY to easy.

I probably binge the next season. It keeps disappointing me every week

Wanna see this movie? read this

Warning: Spoilers
Did not read the book, but I probably will since I cannot believe that this is a good representation of a book by Mr King.

This movie has one of the worst dialogs I've seen so far, scene's are very poorly written and acting is just terrible (mainly 'cause of the bad scripting and writing). This pseudo religious theme hanging over it is ridiculous. The IMDb rating is insanely high. If you honestly like this movie.. well then thats your good right I guess, but I was about to say something different.

Here an excerpt:

Started out normal, first introduction of characters was a bit dull, noticeable was somewhat poor acting.

dialog between neighbors was poorly written, including in the car. But lets see how this turns out.

Then the scene in the supermarket. I don't know what people think of this, but it was horrible. Long, boring, ridiculous dialogs, and insane scripting. Some actors are able to act, but the dialog made them look horrible. scripting-wise; I don't understand who wrote this.

Funny moment was when protagonist went to the generator to shut it of and then hurt his hand or something and then fell and was just overall extremely clumsy. and does this scene lead to anything? no, totally unnecessary. why was he back there anyway? to get blankets? really he had no reason for being there.

Then they want to open the door to the mist they were all scared about not an hour ago. just to get the generator running (why, its daylight). So they just heard screaming, not an hour ago!! are they stupid? I mean I can imagine that they don't think there are monsters, but poisonous gas sure seemed like an option. Ahh what the heck, since our dialog is silly, lets just act that way to.

Then the just ABSURD dialog after the monster is beaten away. He starts punching some dude that more or less gave the young boy permission to go, which clearly was his(boy) own decision, but still somehow it was his(older store clerk) full responsibility and yeah the protagonist sure did everything in his power to stop him.. and lets not tell the others about it in case they missed all the screaming that went on for 5 minutes (just prior the protagonist acted surprised that the people in the store didn't hear the boinking on the garage door, while they were in the store) .. plot holes plot holes..

more bad acting, dialog and scripting.

"it appears we have a problem of some magnitude here"

more bad acting, dialog and scripting.

Everyone just looks apathetic to the weird dialog between a few

weird, long religious scene (the first of many to come)

bored army guys instantly take orders from protagonist.

oh snap! we gotta put in a quick romance scene which we lightly set up earlier 'cause this chick is gonna die in the NEXT SCENE!!

Shoot it! I cant Ill smash the window!.. what window would that be precisely? the smashed one?

Hattie OD-ed.. well OK, who was she again? do I know you?

CRAZY philosophical dialog about the nature of mankind (I was like OMG so deep). Apparently we as a species are fundamentally insane. mind you! FUNDAMENTALLY insane

My son is everything to me, I will protect him at all costs... but lets get some medicine for this guy who is obviously gonna die anyway

Hey we seem to be pretty safe here in this general store, we got food and supplies to last a very long time. Lets get out of here and face certain death! oh yeah thats because they assume the crazy lady is gonna need sacrifices.

Well what do you know, the crazy lady conspiracy turned out to be true. crazy rednecks all turn psycho within a day. Good to see the true heart of America at his best.

Lets cut in a long car scene with no dialog (thank god) and choose the worst misplaced song ever to carry it.

"Lets just see how far the tank takes us". WHY? please tell me why? I mean you have taken unnecessary risks multiple times and now you don't want to stop for gas? Seems relatively safe to do. You can even scout a bit first.

Oke out of gas, were not out of the mist yet. Lets go through our options. Nah lets kill ourselves right now. OK lets do it. Bang bang bang bang.

(at this moment I was thinking to myself: for the love of god don't let the mist dissolve now. its a crap ending but at least its an ending)

and of course within seconds the mist is gone and the army arrives. sigh sigh mega sigh!

the end. You know watched the movie.

1/10 deserved.

BTW The walking dead crew was on a break or something?

in short, its oke if you have low expectations
21 February 2013
Saw the title come by somewhere and went on to IMDb to check it. The ratings and comments almost made me move on, but it was late I wasn't bothered to look for something else.

If one is to critique this as a serious movie, then yes this is quite bad. dialog, script are retarded. semi-lead role josh peck was really horrible, as well as some other actors. But since there hardly was any dialog it wasn't that bothering.

There isn't really a story in this movie, virtually no time is spend on introduction of characters and very limited background is given on motivation or decisions.

Now the above doesn't mention anything good, but I still pretty much enjoyed the whole movie. as far as the story line goes its very simple and takes place in a very small area. its very orderly in a sense. The movie jumps into action almost immediately and then keeps on being packed with action with properly timed breathers.

In the end they take the action a tad to far imo, but 'meh' its oke and it fits. I was never bored and enjoyed the action, which looked pretty good (also camera work was decent).

So in conclusion: -partly bad acting, but hardly any dialog to notice -no real story line, but if you can ignore the "why's" then the story is just fine (simple but fine). -no character development, but with all that action who needs it -good visuals -good camera work -loads of action

I would say; watch it if you feel like such a movie. the concept is pretty funny, an invasion in your western home land. I enjoy those dystopian movies. But yes, this film will not win any awards.

Donnie Darko (2001)
10/10
short explanation
1 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
!SPOILERS!

Although there is enough to find on the internet, I too wanted to give my vision on the interpretation of this godly work. I'll try to keep it short.

I strongly recommend you to watch the directors cut and to visit the official DD site after watching the movie.

start

A tangent universe (TU) is created, this is an exact replica of the main universe (MU). A branch if you will from the main time-line. There is no particular reason for this.

This would not be a problem, wasn't it for a small error made during this copy. An artifact is a erroneous double copy, in this case the jet engine. It has no place in that universe. Hence it just appears somewhere in the TU shortly after it has been created.

The TU gets unstable by this artifact and will collapse on itself within a few weeks (28 days). If it does it will create a black hole that will destroy everything including the MU

So the jet engine needs to get back to the MU.

Now you get one massive deus ex machina. Basically god, in whatever form you can think off will set out events that will lead to the return of the artifact to the MU.

Donnie as the living receiver will be 'given' special powers. Those that die within the TU will also be able to guide Donnie (frank especially, but also Gretchen; manipulated dead) The rest unconsciously will help Donnie achieve his goal (manipulated living).

Every event that happens happens for a reason, all events lead to Donnie being "forced" to return the engine to the MU (since the fate of all that exists depends on it). He rips it off the plane (using his special powers) and sends it back in time to the MU Oct 2nd (the origin of the TU time-line). The TU seizes to exist and Donnie is back in the MU, time did not seize to exist.

The end?

Now, there is a hole in this story. Now there are 2 copies of the engine in the MU. this is also confirmed on the official DD site. somehow the MU, the main time-line, gods main channel whatever you wanna call it is stable enough to support these artifacts and wont collapse, only a tangent one.

I also like to think a TU is not a complete universe, its a small branch from a thicker branch. the world may be copied exactly but maybe not the whole universe.

At the end you see Donnie laughing still having time to move away if he wanted. Theoretically he didn't have to die in the MU, but when he awoke in the MU he did not have the clear memories of the TU, for him it seemed like a dream, there wasn't really a reason for him to move.

Kept it as short as I could. PM me if you like, I could make this story pages long.

Game of Thrones (2011–2019)

overrated? in my opinion; yes
23 July 2011
First of all, ill say that I didn't read the book, nor did I ever heard of it. Second; I watched the first 6 episodes so far (thats 6 hours).

Most reviews are mainly positive, but many of those are written by the book readers. If one feels that you have to read the book to enjoy the series this review is not for you.

This series is a drag. I think thats the best way to describe it. Its a never ending introduction of people whom may become important later or whom may not, you don't know for sure. Its about intrigue, backstabbing, leadership, honor, good, evil all that.. but it doesn't deliver. Some things happen, and if it does the show will definitely let you know "something" happened. Even if its not that special it will become the main part of the story for to long.

Six episodes is almost 6 hours, nothing 'epic'/'grand' happened. All six hours is talk and no show. You might see a sword fight or two (not much more), but no battles or some breath holding scenes. Even those who love this series cannot deny this. There are no real scenes in it, which will 'take you away', in lack of better words.

So far, to me, this is a soap opera, and a bad one at that. You keep switching from story line to story line, and although they are put together nicely it just gets boring after an hour or 4. Once again I'd like to state that nothing really happens.

There is one thing this series does. It somehow keeps you interested. I think I know why. its because the story lines that are plotted out continually give you the feeling something grand is going to happen. I had that feeling since episode 1, but it never delivered. They set-up this epic wars and battles that are bound to happen, but they don't. I imagine something will happen soon enough, but its too late imo.

I am not watching dragon ball (or am I?). I don't want to watch 6 to 8 hours for one action episode. That makes it a SOAP. I am all for 'complicated'/ extended story lines, but not this. Its to much. To much characters you need to know, to much different protagonists, to much parallel story lines.

Acting wise, I am not to impressed (also not disappointed). Its hard, because there are to many lead-roles. The big roles are filled by competent actors. In this aspect they do transcend a soap, but there are many roles that are filled with lesser ones. (for me; Jaime Lannister and Jon Snow don't hit it)

I am not shy to sex-scenes. I am from The low lands and we like to make sex the main basis of all our movies, but come on. The abundant nakedness almost makes me think someone is compensating... for lack of action that is. Sex scenes are fine, but imo to much emphasis is placed on some in this series and that makes it a bit weird now and then.

To conclude; I actually don't think my comparison with dragonball, for the ones familiar, is that bad. One battle could last a season. In this case a season is comparable to the preface of a DBZ episode. It only remains interesting because they constantly talk about grand wars and actually ride to war since episode one, but the 2 out of (the?!?) three sword fights are fought with wooden swords (not kidding) and my patience is starting to evaporate soon.

District 9 (2009)

Lets start with the Good
10 September 2009
I can, somewhat, understand the high rating of this movie. Its action packed, takes you along from the start and keeps you with it the entire movie. I definitely like the documentary/news style filming. The cuts to normal camera work are smoothly done, and the non-static camera work contributes greatly.

Being a relatively low budget movie I think the use of CGI is great. Its not superb, but definitely good enough. The acting is pretty good also, with a touch of surreality/absurdness in it (ie the parents and stuff).

While that's all great and stuff, imo the story itself is the most important. making an action movie gets you so far, its the story line that needs to make sense.

and in that this movie definitely fails. There are many...MANY.. smaller plot holes, which are sometimes forgivable, but not in these numbers. And there are large plot holes which aren't forgivable at all. To be fair, its like a story of a 7 y old totally awesome, but totally lacking consistency.

****spoiler warning*****

Lets just name a few obvious ones;

alien ship hangs there for 3 years (I forgot I thought 3). apparently the aliens cant get out and need to be saved by the humans. No explanation as to why, but a sentence is given 'leaders all died' oh oke! how many were there?

Aliens are like redneck hillbillies? there are a lot of them but all expect once seems to have any intelligence. Still they are pretty human like with human emotions and such.

They are a bit aggressive, but not really hostile, yet they have a lot of big guns. Which they trade for crap with gangsters. Oke so the aliens are not really taken care of and gangsters come in and sort of control the alien population. Very unreal situation!

one alien is smart though and even seems sophisticated. he spends 20 years looking for some stuff. He could find that while in the mothership? I seriously have to believe he had to spend 20 years roaming a dump for an uncertain amount of black mutagen/gasoline?

That stuff is pretty awesome, if inhaled by another species it will turn him into an alien, but if put in a ship its star travel material baby... ridiculous.

when Wikus mutates the hospital is immediately evacuated, yet in the research center they touch him without protection, and force him to do all kinds of stuff. I don't know why really.

apparently human hookers have sex with the aliens.. Jesus Christ.. really? you could let that part out? its totally uncalled for and doesn't fit the movie at all, but it gets worse they try to f***k wikus over by saying he had sex with them too. Such a lame part of the movie very childish.

back to the smart roach; so the world gets tired of them, but people and roaches can to some extend speak to each other (atleast some). So there was no possibility that the humans could help them out, you know by trying to help find the black stuff.. no that all needs to be very secret. Its slightly backed by the EVIL BIG CORPORATION which has a hit team with a very evil hunter leader (cliche at its best).

The part where wikus enters the robot is weird to me to. So he fits the suit oke, but this mega tech units has emotions and feelings?? did 'they' want to add somewhat more drama to the movie, like there wasn't enough? the whole movie was packed with drama but they topped it with the robot scene. every time he was hit wikus moaned and seemed to be hurt. the robots movements where human like and also seemed to express feelings... it even barfed (black stuff!¿). But wikus, suddenly turning into rambo, kept the robot up because of his powerful mind. its not that the machine broke down, no when wikus's spirit broke the robot broke... at least that is how it looked to me.

also when wikus heard that the fixing of would took 3 years he just decided to knock out the only one who could possibly help him at a very crucial moment.. why is that? seriously dumbest decision ever. But miraculously enough he is able to fly an alien plain anyways. almost as miraculous as the roach being able to survive intense crossfire defending with a small metal plate.

another failing moment imo is when the roach is in the lab (the suicide mission that goes extremely easy) he is flabbergasted when he sees a dead alien.. uhm I don't know, I see aliens being killed and harassed all the time, that really blowed your mind? btw how come wikus had passage to that room? he wasn't really in the position for that, he never seen it before.

well I got a little carried away with this comment, I'll stop here but I assure you I can come up with many more weak sport in the movie. The fact is, the story is so weak its like seems made up by a child. an excited one that makes up stuff along the way.

Well if you managed to read all this you probably know I am not liking this movie, yet it wasn't hard to sit it out. The constant action keeps you drawn. I wont recommend it, but if one wants to see it I wont try to withhold you either.

poor movie with great camera work and good acting, but with one of the weakest story lines I've seen so far.

pretty good start
20 May 2009
normally I wouldn't comment on movies 'like this' (fill in the meaning as you wish) but I am in a weird mood so here it goes; I believe its all about expectation. I knew what kind of movie this was and I wasn't expecting a fantastic awesome movie, no problem. it's a difficult genre though, its a mix between comedy, teen-theme and romance, but I think it came out successful.

They didn't spend to much time for character building, nope they dived into the story right away and I like that especially since its a 'light' movie, no need.

So the story itself is believable, so realistic. The scenes are also mostly realistic but sometimes somewhat unrealistic.. I mean the pimp; is he a good guy a bad guy I don't, know I like him anyways.

some lose strings are present. the biggest being the whole money for samsung thing. How is anyone else responsible for the theft expect for the lady? since when can you cash an account with only your good looks? also the speech part was cut a little short IMO. The daydream parts were pretty random and felt out of place. On a lighter note; I laughed hard at that cut scene where she(tgnd) picks up the underwear driving lol.

The end was pretty unpredictable that's good for 'this kind of movie' so conclusion nice lightweight film, with decent story line and good ending.

a shame
12 May 2009
in short I chose not to rate this movie since I didn't see it all the way through (stopped at 'bout 1 hour). 'irritations' started early (although the intro is pretty nice) with the corvette (i'm not sure) and the pack of Sig's in the sleeve, what a cliché's. the whole story just doesn't make any sense and doesn't want to make me see the end of it.

I have to admit, the fact that Donnie is such a great movie makes it almost impossible to make a sequel. Sam is perfect for the role and she is the only one I 'bought' but the rest of it is garbage.

an awful shame that this movie is made, since this rubbishness rubs of on one of the greatest movies.

Warning: Spoilers
Since the story is more like a poem the narration is important to follow. I like to watch my anime in the original language and so I had some difficulty following the subs and watching the movie at the same time. I didn't realize in the beginning it was going to be like it was. I just picked it out from the IMDb list and thought it would be a 'regular' ghibli story line.

What was presented to me was beautiful at the least. Some people say that the second story is of lesser interest, but I disagree. This middle story is what hangs it together. It shows how his love is never ending/fading not even a little. I wonder how that 2nd girl managed to life on after he left... She comes out the saddest imo.

personally I think the story does drag on a little to much. Its just an hour of material, but it tends to get a little slow now and then, I guess thats part of the poem and I realize that but still..

*spoiler warning* The story is very depressing, a whole trail of loved and lost drenches the story and no one ends up pretty. I am all for bad endings, but this is just.. well VERY depressing. Still I love the ending.

I do have some minor criticism. First; although the movie is quite realistic I think the people in the story are a little young, it could have started off when they where a little older imo. Second; there are 4 figures in the story. The personalities can easily be ordered by importance. the boy on 1; the first girl on 2; second girl on 3 and that one shy girl which hardly plays a role, but is important. personally I think it would have been better if girl 1 would have been written more into the story in part 3. its to short, and not in balance with part 1.

well agree or disagree with the above, I still think its a great love poem.

Futurama: Jurassic Bark (2002)
Season 5, Episode 2
10/10
like so many others said: great episode
18 February 2009
I like animated comedy, its comedy for 'our' generation. Sitcoms just don't do it anymore and implement way to many morals into the storyline.

Futurama differentiates itself enough from the other popular animated comedy series to be interesting. Animated comedy is, maybe silently, stigmatized for being to superficial. Indeed the stories don't go to deep most of the time and that is the appealing part of it, but now and then people have a need for extra emotions besides humor.

Bringing drama with a laugh, to me sounds impossible. obviously it can be done, but it almost always negates or even nullifies the drama part.

This episode was regular for almost the entire length, but it was build up to the end so ingeniously and unnoticeable that the end indeed made such an impact.

I think that if you compare this scene with the saddest scene from friends (in context) futurama wins by a land slide in sadness.

horrible movie, just awful
2 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
My friend and I met up for our weekly movie night, but we were all out of movies (from our stock). So we decided to rent one, first time since 4 years or so.. after looking up some movies we decided to watch 'the genius club' I was in the mood for a dialog based movie and the description appealed to me, in short it seemed like a save choice.. Oh how I was wrong.

This is most likely the worst most pretentious pseudo religious based movie I have ever seen. It devours mission to mars. which was the previous 'worst movie ever' award holder.

This movie was utter garbage, there was really no moment in the whole movie I felt any connection or emotion.

Acting was horrible, not merely because of the bad actors but also because of awful script. Some scenes were just toe curling. I literally ate a part of my self. The story in general was just nonsense, the whole point system was ridiculous. My friend wanted to turn the movie off, but I was hoping for something totally random, funny "things" to occur because frankly all my hopes for a good story were gone as well. we sat through the whole movie, but I regretted it afterward.

when the horror was over I immediately went to IMDb to see its grade, how the frig does this earn a 5.5??? that's insane. Some comments are definitely not made by morons and they praise it like there is no tomorrow. unbelievable. people who seriously praise this movie cannot be sincere. please tell HOW is this good acting/scripting/etc etc???? My question once more.. How can IMDb rate this as a 5.5?? That's disgustingly high. well written/described comments are insane. How can a person, who is obviously not retarded, say such words? is the rumor true? Do film companies post positive feedback on IMDb? I gave it a 1 and that is not to downsize the grade, it is because it is not worth any higher. Horrible horrible movie, don't watch
