Pleasantly supprised

Warning: Spoilers
Give this one some time to develop.

There are many plotlines to follow.

This makes it that some times @ the start of a show you don't really get involved right away.

Amazon solved this mostly by releasing 2 episodes at once so you have 2 hours of screentime to be able to make a emotional connection to the characters. There might be some over the top woke elements in it but it wasn't (at least for me) too obvious.

Personally I am fond of the actress that plays Nori, fond of Sauron(yes the man who fell to earth), and Durin.

Less impressive was Elrond who really sounded like a Jedi (Can't explain it, it just does)

Visuals are 10/10 and breathtaking.

We will see how it develops and I hope it will get a chance to develop in something more then 1 season.

I will be tuning in every week and keeping my prime subscription to follow this one.

The Handmaid's Tale (2017–2025)

Incredible acting and give it time
9 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've been watching season 1-4 in a few weeks time and when June met her husband Luke on the boat again after years of oppression, when she almost completely collapsed and mumbled that she was sorry about not being able to save Hannah, my heart litteraly broke into pieces.

When she was sleeping in the dorm and told the viewer about how they learned to whisper and lipread, once she started to mention the names of her friends together with the beautifully composed Ruins of the memorial from Adam Taylor, my heart broke.

I really felt hate when thinking about Serena and Fred and especially when thinking about Aunt Lydia... My god almost forgot these are actors.

Elisabeth Moss (June) is one of those few actresses that can project true feelings onto the screen and which makes that you geniunly care deeply for her and what happens with her.

Madeline Brewer(Jeanine) also succeeded in that for me.

This is without any doubt, for me, the best and most mentally devastating series i've ever seen and probably will see in my life time.

I am glad I had the opportunity to watch it and follow the story of brave June.

For the record, I am a 41 years old white straight male.

The masterpiece of my generation, at least for me
29 June 2022
I've seen the birth of Jurassic Park, i've seen Game of Thrones come and go. I've seen Lord of the rings go down a very slippery slope.

But all of them fall far behind this masterpiece of a movie.

After 4-5 times intensly watching this movie, i've come to understand and see subtle reactions / actions that have escaped me in previous see throughs. The score is masterfully composed to fit the scenery and tension in this movie.

Acting is as expected nothing short of TOP performances of the entire cast, discovering and liking some of the (for me) new faces like Babs Olusanmokun and Josh Brolin (i know he is an established name already), following them into new projects and expecting great things of them in the future.

Score = 10/10 Visuals = 10/10 Acting = 10/10 Cinematography = 10/10 Some people may find it slow, but this needs to be a slow burner in the sand, I cannot be made any other way.

Thank you Villeneuve for finally paying hommage to the greatest science fiction story ever conceived and put onto paper.

I salute you sir!

The Expanse (2015–2022)

Some of the best, some of the worst (halfway through ep 4 of season 6)
3 January 2022
The story behind this series is briljantly written en keeps you on your guards throughout all seasons (granted S05 was not AS good)

It also has some of the best acting performances by.the tough Cara Gee (Lovely Camina Drummer) and of course the Belter that defines all Belters...David Strathairn (Commander Ashford) and not to forget of course Shohreh Aghdashloo who is simply amazing as Chrisjen Avasarala (Chrissie for the friends)

Sadly it has also the worth acting performances behind its belt.

Starting with Inaros father and son... both a disgrace.for beltalowda and terribly casted and terribly written. It almost looks like they are cartoon figures.

Then we have Dominique Tipper, who did a decent job in the first few seasons when she didn't have excessive screentime. But then the Inaros boys showed up and she almost had an entire season for herself.

There she almost ruined the show for me.

Then to close this off, in the last season those kids that show up in the start of each episode in season 6, it is like they didn't even bother to do a good job.

When a performance on a show like Expanse is CRINCHEworthy, you know something is wrong.

Luckely the Rocinanté is such an epic ship, even comes close to the starship USS Enterprise (god forgive me this blasphemy)

Trek is Back

People complaining about no straight white male characters ?

This is STAR TREK, to boldly go where no one has gone before!

Special effects were amazing and of course when the president reveils (go watch it) that new spacedock, emotions are coming.

Burnham and the crew had 3 seasons to grow towards eachother and they have, i forsee a great future for this show.

Don't let salty people put you off, this is Star Trek in 2021. Go watch it and enjoy and dream about the future.

Old guys who cannot get over their boycrush with Kirk, somewhat younger guys who cannot get over their boycrush with Picard or Riker... It doesn't matter what they think.

Gene would have been proud of Discovery!

Willow (1988)
10/10
The only one
17 January 2021
I've seen this movie when I was 8 years old, and granted, the trolls did give me a few nightmares. But till this day hearing the soundtrack makes me emotional and makes me longing for those days, when i still believed in dragons, trolls, evil Queens, Daikini, Nelwyns, .... That magic is gone, but if I see this movie again I forget I am 40 years old and I am right back in the big cinema when I was 8. Sorsha is getting prettier each year that passes and I am proud to say she was my first crush!

I think everyone has 1 movie, that pulls all strings in just that matter that is perfect for you. For me it is Willow. I am just glad that when I had to pick a movie in 1988 (I still know I was at summer camp and I could pick 1 movie out of 5, and I was one of the few that choose Willow) When I left the cinema, I didn't know what just happened but in the years after I actually forgot the movie. Then i've heard the soundtrack from some movie in which James Horner reused the trumpets. Vaguely remembering somthing about a dragon with many heads, trolls, and little people. Google came to my rescue and as soon as I saw the name, I knew I had found it again. As soon as the opening credits began, I was right back in that Cinema.

Fantasy has only 1 name in my book, and that is Willow !

Skylines (2020)

Low budget, instant cult classic
5 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Who needs a big budget when you have inspiration and a good action packed story. That is what the crew of Skylines archieved in this movie. Was it perfect ? Far from it :) but I've enjoyed every minute of it until the bloopers when credits were rolling.

The villain (Alexander) was in fact very entertaining, and I am sure that the writers intended certain scenes of him to be funny ... entering the scene with a revolver which was hilarious.

Other epic moments were Lindsey ;) And Trent of course, the absolute hero of this movie!

I am ready for the 4th installment !! Seen all 3 of them now and always entered the movie with very low expectations and always had a FUN time ! Keep these coming !

Cobra Kai (2018–2025)
10/10
I want it all !!! I want it all! And I want it NOW!!!
3 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A few weeks ago I started watching to Cobra Kai with the idea... Why not ? I didn't expect a whole lot of it, but I kinda liked Karate Kid.

It has blown me away completely off guard. This series has it all. Some episodes are funny, some episodes will make u tear up, some episodes are SOOO BADASS(tm), and the music... Did I mention the Music ? and THAT CHALLENGER ? William (AKA Mister Johnny Lawrence) nails it like no other ever could. While his character was 2D in the Karate Kid, his character takes you along with ups and downs like the best rollercoasters.

The casting is very well done. There are times that the way Sam looks reminds me of Ali. I already checked, they are not related :D In most series you have the good guys and the bad guys, well in Cobra Kai everybody goes from Bad to Good to Bad to Good to Bad to Good and everything in between. And this in episodes of only 30 minutes.

Last thing and this is a spoiler. The fightscene in the last episode from season 2 was THE BEST i've ever seen. The boys from Arrowverse (Arrow / Flash / ...) should all just quit putting fight scenes in their series... Because they all look VERY fake in comparison to this GEM.

Thank you Mister Lawrence and Mister Larusso for bringing me back to Paradise City ReSeDa !!!

Review after 4 episodes
10 October 2017
It has me hooked! After episode 3 I was eager to find out what happened in episode 4, now I've seen Episode 4 I want to see how it all unfolds in episode 5 and so on and so on.

Is it true to its 1960's counterpart? Hell no! Do I want it to be true when there is soo much more technologie and visual effects to be used ? HELL NO!

If you ever seen bad acting check the scene in twisted (S02) with Lt Baxter and Harry Kim ... After seeing that all future acting in every movie is worldclass

Wonder Woman (2017)

First big budget female superhero movie is Success!
11 July 2017
This movie is the origins story of Wonder Woman, the coming of age story of a girl turning into a goddess. AND what a goddess she turns into!!

I don't understand the hate, but apparently a lot of "Marvel" fanboys found it needed to 1 star this amazing movie. I am looking beyond DC vs Marvel.

The acting is spot on, I really believe this girl could be Wonder Woman and she fills the part excellently. Don't believe the haters, go look to this movie yourself and be amazed. Great performance !

Not to bad
22 October 2015
When i got to see this movie on my home theater I was impressed by the scenery and the global feeling this movie is creating. I don't know this series or am not an anime fan, just watched this movie cause i was interested in scifi in general. This movie accomplished what it meant to do according to me, during the movie I had a real bad feeling inside... This thanks to the excellent sounds and music they use during all this. Do not watch this movie on a laptop or tablet, but plug in a great surround... Even my dogs became uncomfortable during the initital invasion and the mission afterwards.

Special effects are not bad (not Hollywood blockbuster level, but still not bad) Keep an open mind, turn up the volume, and forget what you know bout the anime series and you will "enjoy" this movie.

The Loft (2014)

Very entertaining
28 January 2015
It has been a while that i've seen a movie that could keep me interested for the entire duration. It was a refreshing and intriguing and makes you wonder what the hell you would do in that situation. The movie makes you realize that how quickly a good friendship can go wrong, and is spot on when trying to visualize this. The movie has a very strong story that underlines the plot where it is going and I don't want to uncover to much for this film. I suggest go look it up in theaters or bluray and decide for yourself!

Karl Urban is again epic and one of my all time favorite present day actors and can easily carry the lead here. The girls in the movie are all very easy for the eye ;)

9/10 since I rarely give 10/10

A true diamond
16 July 2013
Don't believe Rotten Tomatoes Don't believe IMDb ratings.

This movie is a gem, a diamond... Don't think you will see a transformers or another action packed scifi movie... Its a romantic adventure that happens to contain aliens...

The story draws you in from the start to finish. Not much special effects but they were not needed in this movie.

Its an emotional roller-coaster, it has funny moments, and a bit of action. But most of all it has a great cast, totally believable.

great movie, go watch it and keep an open mind about the type of movie you are looking too.

Not that bad eventually
11 June 2013
OK we all know Asylum doesn't stand for quality. The acting is poor (as to be expected) But the Story for once is not that bad. It all sticks together and scientifically it all adds up.

I rate it a 6/10 why? because i've seen way worse movies then this, and If I am going to give Moby Dick 2000 or something a 2 then this movie deserves a 6. It is that much better then most Asylum movies. CGI can be better but then again i've seen them way worse in other asylum movies. Acting is bad, but then again, i've seen worse acting The story on the other hand sticks, and that's why i am giving 6/10 acting = 1 out of 3 CGI = 2 out of 3 Story = 3 out of 4 together that makes 6 ;)

Doctor Who (2005–2022)
10/10
Brilliantly written, a real work of ART and Bowties are cool!
1 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Is it my idea, or is the Doctor getting better with each season that passes ? I mean how brilliant can a show be if they know 20 episodes ago whats gonna happen ? Its like a movie divided in many different stories but all give clues on how the show is gonna progress.

I mean you don't even know until its the final episode that you had all the clues at your disposal, Spread out in all different episodes. Things you normally wouldn't end up thinking about it.

It's getting better and better in the first 2 seasons i would have rated it 7-8/10 but the dept of the series has made me a true follower of the dead Doctor. We had season 5 and 6 that were converging to a climax halfway in season 7 (imagina that ...) that brought tears to my eyes.

Even now when i hear the Amy Pond Theme song i get tears into my eyes and I was absolutely sure that they couldn't do this amazing achievement again... But a few episodes later i found out they are doing it once more...

The casting is as always PERFECT. The special effects are perhaps a bit old fashioned but that's what makes the Doctor, Who he is. Bowties are cool!

Giving and example, after Tennant i didn't think that the next doctor could fill his shoes and the series would die silently. But them they get Matt who is to say the least as good as Tennant, might even better.

I hope BBC will keep this series go on and on because i want my kids to grow up with the Doctor.
