Family Guy: The King Is Dead (2000)
The king died after season 2
*Review Disclaimer: I originally watched this episode when I was like 12*
This may not be the best plot for a family guy episode. However, it does have the funniest cut away gags I believe in all of the show.
Like I said in the disclaimer, I watched this when I was 12. Nevertheless, I re-watched this episode recently and laughed just as hard like I was an immature kid all over again.
Simple plot: lois becomes director of The King and I Musical. Peter tries out but doesn't make the cut. Lois makes Peter "Producer" Peter screws up the whole show.
Tangent here, I'm honestly surprised at how mediocre the ratings of the first 2 seasons are. Especially when they have objectively the best jokes in the show.
Wraping up a review no one will see of a episode no one remembers from 14 years ago
Adventure Time: The Comet (2015)
This show is too good for its format.
When Adventure Time first started, its imaginative world was used to create surreal and unique stories for laughs. For that reason, the 8-minute time slot was perfect. You understood that there were hidden messages within the show which made you wonder what was beyond the humor. However, the jokes were what kept you coming back for more.
Adventure Time has changed over time for the better-- Mostly. Let me explain. The world is much more fleshed out. The characters have added depth, and in my option, the adventures are more clever and epic. However, the episodes now have more plot to show and in the same amount of time as before. In my opinion, this causes the pace of the show to feel rushed. For example, in this episode, Finn is faced with a great and terrible creature. I won't spoil who it is, but I was hoping that episodes from the reveal to the fight was more padded out so you can really understand the conflict.
The main reason for this is due to the format of the show itself. If it was let's say 22-minutes like most shows, then I know that the show would be able to create the emotions that it is trying to convey. I'm still giving this episode 9 stars because it is still everything that you could want in as a continuation of an 8-minute episode. It's just the payoff doesn't feel as impactful as I would want it to be.
Adventure Time: Water Park Prank (2015)
This is the hardest review I had to make
Adventure Time is my favorite show. Just wanted to put that out there. However, in my opinion this is by far the worst episode. I usually like the guest animators for the unique style they bring, but this episode is just really unappealing. Everyone's scrunched up faces and tiny bodies kinda makes me feel uncomfortable.
As for the story...Well I understand that the guest directors make filler episodes with no real substance, but this one was just really dull and uneventful.
I don't mean any ill will towards the team that made this, but this style is just not for this show.
The reason this rating isn't lower is because I like that they at least tried something new, even if it wasn't in the right direction.
Adventure Time: Gold Stars (2015)
Surprisingly Amazing.
I'd like to think that most fans of Adventure Time hated how the writers dealt with The Litch's demise. I too felt a little hollow at the idea of one of the most intimidating villains on T.V to be turned into an adorable baby. HOWEVER, I was looking forward to where they were going to go with this idea. Boy howdy, did they deliver. The biggest strength of this Story is the inner conflict of Sweet-Pea. His extremely lovable and innocent voice along with his over-sized body is one thing. But a whole different thing when you realize he still has the inner demon of The litch inside him. I actually kinda wanted to dislike this character of Sweet-Pea, but I think it is physically impossible to do such a thing when you see how innocent and lovable he is. The Climax of the episode gave me strong goosebumps right when I heard the soft voice of Ron Pearlmen say "stop"
Adventure Time: Is That You? (2014)
Fantastic. Super creative plot.
PRISMO'S BACK! If any other show just brought back a character from the dead I would call it a cop-out. However, not only did everyone absolutely love Prismo, the way they brought him back was so creative and unique.
Not many funny moments this episode (in my opinion), but the completely bonkers story made it so fun to watch. I mean, Jake getting sucked into a hypercube like dream world from a pickle jar where time constantly repeats. Need I say more? Too bad.
In this place we get to see Prismo again. However, this is in the past before prismo is killed by the lich. Not only that, but back at the tree-house, Jake is caught in some time loop to where he acts out old adventure time moments. The thing is, if anything happens that's different from the scenes, Jake explodes due to a time paradox. I'm not going to say much more about this episode, except I think that the thorn in Finn's hand is foreshadowing to something involving the grass sword.
This episode sounds like it was written by the frantic scribbles of a mad man... and I love it.
