The Ground Truth: After the Killing Ends (2006)
A Real Life Account of War-time Follies
This shorter movie is the epitome the expected results when the imbecile runs the asylum. It is sad how the futures of these young people were rolled down a craps table when neither Saddam Hussein nor the people of Iraq, God rest the souls of the 350,000 plus that have been killed, had anything to do with terrorism nor al-Quida.
Following this movie the astute viewer will need to pick up or download a copy of "Loose Change." This movie is available free on the internet, until the Bush cabal locks it down, by googling-up the very title, as indicated in parenthesis.
God Save our country. This will not be done by following the Christo-fascists that controlled the Halls of Congress for over 10 years prior to November, 2006!
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005)
Superbly Made and Timely per Current Events
While this movie is remarkably important to see today, it truly has a timeless nature. For persons that did not see it in 2005 when it was made, it is a shame. I saw it in 2006. If my predictions on documented and undocumented immigration (not always Mexican)come to pass, it will be an important documentation of life on the Mexican border in 2005. I can fathom this being of educational value for 10, 15, 50, or even 100 years.
I give Tommy Lee Jones the highest honors. It is so sad that "corporate American" movies reviews hid this jewel so deftly that I had to be alerted to it by an undocumented Mexican!
Tommy Lee Jones, being the protagonist, was marvelously made up and I barely recognized him. The antagonist, a border patrol newbie, did a superb job, and actually redeemed a degree of his self-guilt. I can only hope that more movies will be made in the near future that are of the genre and quality.
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
Brokeback easily could be a Shakespearean Tragedy
I know there are only about 5 basic plots a film/play can assume. Lee proved himself to be among the greatest Directors in America, in deftly maneuvering around a very "red button issue;" "Homosexuality." The amazing thing is that Ang may have out done the great Bill Shakespeare, although if you actually study the playwright's life you will learn that many of his plays would have tackled the same subject, and did in surreptitious ways, since Victorian English society was not yet advanced or evolved enough to handle this.
Emotions run wild in "Brokeback" whether one is straight, gay/lesbian, or bisexual. This for all intents and purposes should be a film that unites all of mankind. Sadly with multitudes still on the extreme sociological right-wing, those hoping to bring all of society (not Americans but the world) into one united family will still have some distance to strive.
If just 5 to 10% of them realize that a pall of homophobia encases their life, we will be on our way to unity among all persons.
Liberty Bound (2004)
Riveting, Mesmerizing
This is Michael Moore (e.g. Fahrenheit 9/11) without the venom. An intoxicating initial film debut, built on little more than guts and determination. In making "Liberty Bound," it is astounding the number of sheer coincidences that happened in Christine's midst.
But could these be sheer coincidences? It is doubtful. As Christine was on a cross country breakout tour, she described an immigrant lady from Germany saying, "this is exactly what happened during the Third Reich!"
A reader can call me crazy; maybe even call me loco! I am not making any assertion. I am only calling on each viewer to see "Liberty Bound" for themselves.
Also because the numbers you see are in the aggregate, it does not tell the full story. Few have leveled very low scores. Approximately 85% of the other raters have given this movie a 9 or 10. You owe it to yourself, your country, and your family to see this movie! Otherwise, American Democracy was well, but a nice try for 225 years.
