David Gilmour in Concert (2002)
David Gilmour did it wrong
I must say i was quite disappointed with David Gilmour.. I was somewhat amazed when he pulled the long reverb sounds out of the chords in shine on your crazy diamonds, but I lost my interest right afterwards.. The way he plays these beautiful classics sound like stereotype-music with no purpose... It doesn't work at all with him playing it acoustic and alone, and when he gets the other musicians they continue to deliver the music inelegant empty and exposed for soul. For a moment I thought that pink floyd's music was uninteresting.. and I don't get it because I know Pink Floyd are good, so this must be a mistake from Gilmour, he was drunk, or maybe he wasn't.. anyways this doesn't work! Pull your act together big guy, I know your up for it..
The Shining (1980)
What does the ending mean?
I simply don't understand the ending! Has Jack's spirit stayed in the Hotel since the party from 1921? This little picture tells that he was there back in 1921 alright, but does it mean, that he has always been there or WTF? It's so unclear to me... I saw it with some friends and we discussed the fact, that Jack Torrance could be a ghost from the past party or something, put what is the idea with the party thing? Great film and all, but I'm not entirely sure about these things, so if someone has a descent opinion to my problem, please be my guest and post...... and no, I DON'T WANT TO READ THE DAMN BOOK JUST BECAUSE THAT'll EKSPLAIN A THING OR TWO!!! This is a movie script adapted from a book, which doesn't mean that it's supposed to be 100% similar to each other...
Batman & Robin (1997)
Awful doesn't cover it..
This is if possible the worst rubbish I've ever seen. Bad acting, bad casting and bad directing. Shame on you.. The dark arena of our black knight has been transformed into a cartoon-esquire disco fantasy world very badly constructed. I was so disappointed... I hope the next thing can deliver the dark fear full anger that from all time was the driving force in Batman... George Clooney is awful as Batman. He is to much of a funny guy charming cream muffin to be a tormented soul driven by darkness and fighting for justice and so is Chris O' Donnel. A very bad screen couple indeed I'm afraid. Arnold Schwarzenegger was also a total miscast for the role as mister freeze, as there ain't much of a scientist over him and he speaks like a stupid Austrian bear.. terrible.. all in all a big waste of time which isn't worth of much discussion..
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Some of the best star wars!
Apart from the bad acting from Hayden Christensen and the fair performance from Portman the movie is a fantastic visual experience. It's a great story and it combines the two decades of Star Wars very well. The fighting scenes are incredible and John Williams has really made a fantastic score with gigantic potions of drama and sadness. It's bombastic! It's two bad that the love scenes between Hayden and Natalie still are far from perfect.. They have stiff way about them, but I think Portman has become much better throughout these movies. Hayden has also become better since episode 2 but still he is not convincing.
The action scenes are a joy to watch! They are extremely well directed that you feel like you are seeing an opera of violence and sci-fi. This is as I sad very much because of John Williams but the directing is also incredible here. Ewan Mcgregor also deserves a lot of credit for his work with Obi-wan. He has really found a way to make him seem deep and interesting, which he really failed to do in episode 1. Ian Mcdermid is the evil bastard darth sidious and he is just as evil as one could expect.
The movie comes to a point where the dilemma within Anakin unfolds and they are not leveled with the rest of the movie but yet they are necessary for the movie to work.
here comes a little spoiler...
You can look forward to the ending because a greater swords fight has never been filmed! It is such an incredible joy to watch. If it hadn't been for the less good scenes with Padme and Anakin i would consider this to be nothing but a masterpiece!
The Godfather (1972)
The Greatness of the Godfather
During a normal day in the life, a daughter is getting married, which should be the most proud time for a father. It should be the day when it is all about getting together with the family and enjoy the just married couple... yet Don Corleone has some business to attend to, and during this wedding he offers his help to many people, who needs justice the hard way. Vito Corleone has under-the-table-deals which are just as important to him as protecting his family. The opening scene is about twenty minutes long, where the Godfather setting is established. The raw criminal life of gangsters who must take care of the family as well as the family business. A great bunch of stories are entwined in this movie - stories about family(especially father and son), tradition, criminal life, power, all perfectly combined into one great story about the Godfather. It's well instructed, especially the scene where the Corleones are killing the leaders of the 5 families... it's a robotism, but with the sad church choir music and all the killings going on at the same time, it all seems pretty much like a requiem... Marlon Brando's performance as Vito is outstanding but so is Al Pacino as the son Michael. The movie is filled with great acting which includes Robert Duvall's work as Tom Hagen. The greatness about the Godfather is, that it's a perfectly combined story and very well directing as well! Francis Ford Coppola knows exactly how long a scene should last in order to give all the actors the time they need to show how they master their roles. This is not boring, but on the other hand very exciting as it gives the movie quite an artistic perspective. It goes from being a great movie into being beyond great.. It's a cultural and intelligent masterpiece that takes a lot of patience though but what art doesn't require patience?.... bad art!
