No one can make an action movie the way Bay can. No one.

The man is an absolute genius in that area. The frenetic, swish-pan style pioneered by Bay is something that a lot of other directors are trying to recreate, but let's just say that they're not that successful.

Bay is the absolute master of mixing the intimate with the grand in high concept montages of tremendous gravity. His filmmaking craft is absolutely sophisticated. To be intimantely in control of every single department on an enormous scale, to personally design and implement immaculate setups for so many set pieces and to infuse so much information into such short amounts of time using kinetics, lighting, edits and humor - in as deft a manner as Bay - is truly brilliant.

Unlike many other action directors he literally transports the viewer in the middle of the action and the adrenaline keeps pumping. The way he moves the camera, the way he edits, the way he combines CG imagery with real-life dangerous stunts, it's absolutely incredible.

For me, he'll always be the #1 action director.

I love the action in all of his films, but the absolute winner will always be Die Hard 3. Every single action shot in that movie is a pure classic. No CGI, no nothing. Real cameras in the real NY. You're on the edge of your seat the whole time.
