The USA becomes a facist and fundamentalist State that sends criminals for life-imprisionment in Los Angeles (which was turned into na island. because of an earthquake). The movie is a quite eccletic post apocalyptic sci-fi afventure, that mixes cyberpunk, Western, Rambo-style warfare. There are some ridiculous things, like bad visual effects, or making Cuervo Jones looking like Che Guevara (the bearded terrorist is the worst character, both by his development and by acting skills). On the other hand, there are also nice thing, such as badass scoundrel Snake Plissken and other entertaining characters, weather dramatic changes, sci-fi medical or eletronic stuff, and the general political dystopic idea (even though an approach that deviates from imperialist conventional wisdom would be desirable for the rebels; besides that, the coalition built to engage in a war against USA is laughably implausible).

Director: Neil Burger | Stars: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney

Votes: 489,247 | Gross: $150.95M

This film held in a dystopic Chicago divided in "chosen" castes (factions) is not bad, but it has an excess of clichés and nonsense plot elements. The primal assumption is ridiculous itself: wouldn't it be the normal that most of the people fit in more than one faction? Besides that, why factions need to be a caricature (I am mentioning particularly Dauntless)? Why people from other factions (Abnegation, for example!) shoot as well as the guys who are trained as soldiers (Dauntless)? The ending was ridiculous, and was driven to prepair the story for a sequel, Insurgent, which is horrible, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Afterwards, there was one more bad cheesy film, Allegiant. Fortunately, they gave up to produce Allegiant Part II, Ascendant, or whatever that fourth garbage movie was supposed to be called.
