Exclusive: Who is Sam Cox, and why is his house covered in doodles?
Acme Studios and Lightbox set out to answer these questions in the upcoming documentary feature The Trouble with Mr Doodle.
The documentary tells the story of Cox, a 25-year-old British artist known as Mr Doodle, who bought a six-bedroom mansion in the English countryside of Kent in 2019. After stripping it bare and painting it brilliant white, he spent more than two years covering every single inch of it in doodles.
In October 2022, Mr Doodle became the subject of global media attention when he unveiled his Doodle House to the world. The video Sam created to document his work in a three-minute-long stop-frame time lapse received over 70 million views in the first few days.
The world marvelled at what kind of mind could produce such an extraordinary work of living art and wondered how he did it. Now...

With a working title of Lawfully Killed - the verdict of the inquest into Mr Duggan's death - the drama is set to be a 90 minute special (via Broadcast).
The BBC's factual team has commissioned the show which Acme Films will produce and Jaimie D'Cruz will direct.
The special will explore different perspectives in the 24 hours leading up to Duggan's death, taking in Duggan's family, the police and Tottenham residents' reaction to the unfolding drama.

Scarlett Johansson Oscar dress Scarlett Johansson at the Oscars Looking great in a long purple dress, Scarlett Johansson displays her tight-fitting costume and bare back at the 83rd Academy Awards held on Feb. 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Oscar 2011 co-host and Best Actor nominee James Franco (for Danny Boyle's 127 Hours) thus introduced Johansson and fellow Oscar presenter Matthew McConaughey: "I am six degrees of Kevin Bacon away from our next two presenters. Figure it out on the Internet." Well, if you're lucky. Some have remarked that Franco was a more effective Oscar host online, where he tweeted some of the evening's to-dos, than on the stage of the Kodak Theatre. His fellow equally panned Oscarcast host was actress Anne Hathaway. Scarlett Johansson movies Scarlett Johansson has been featured in more than 40 films since her debut at age 10 in Rob Reiner's North, back in 1994. Johansson, in fact,...

If you missed the broadcast of the 83rd Academy Awards, or you can't remember who won what, here is a list of all the winners in their categories. The King's Speech and Inception both tied for the most Oscars won, which was four statues each. However, whereas Inception took home awards for technical categories (Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound and Best Cinematography), The King's Speech won three of the top four categories (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay).

Well I certainly don't think 2011 will go down as one of the more memorable years in Oscar history; not only were the winners fairly predictable, but the ceremony itself seemed dull and uninspired. Despite an attempt to add a "youthful edge" to the Oscars this year, it was almost completely lacking in comedy, excitement or entertainment. Hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway seemed to be dreadfully unprepared and lacking material, leaving Franco to put up a facade of aloof detachment while Hathaway simply attempted to win everyone over with cuteness. The King's Speech went on to secure most of the major awards including Best Picture, Director, Actor and Original Screenplay, reinforcing the stuffy British Oscar stereotype. For the second time David Fincher was denied Best Director, but The Social Network did end up getting awards for Film Editing, Original Score and Adapted Screenplay. Natalie Portman still managed to snag Best Actress for Black Swan,...

Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech" lorded over the festivities at the 83rd annual Academy Awards. The film, nominated for 12 Oscars, won 4 including Best Picture, Director for Tom Hooper, Actor for King Colin Firth, and Original Screenplay for David Seidler.
David Fincher's "The Social Network" took home 3 awards including Best Film Editing, Original Score for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin.
(For my minute-by-minute look at the 2011 Oscars, please click here, trust me, it's fun!)
As expected, Natalie Portman took home Oscar gold for her performance as a delusional ballerina in "Black Swan." "The Fighter" yielded the Best Supporting performances of the year with Christian Bale winning Best Supporting Actor and Melissa Leo taking home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
Christopher Nolan's "Inception" took home most of the technical categories including Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Cinematography for Wally Pfister.

It's hard to predict the winners of this year's Oscars because there is no clear-cut favorite. Last year, Kathryn Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker" started strong during awards season and maintained its dominance all the way to its Oscar best picture victory. This year, David Fincher's "The Social Network" triumphed in the beginning but the Oscar buzz surrounding the movie is slowly fading away.
But I still have my favorites and I will attempt to handicap the Oscars. Here are my predictions of who should take home Oscar gold at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.

[1] Ever since Banksy's Exit Through the Gift Shop was nominated [2] for the Best Documentary Oscar, the question has been what would happen if he actually won. The internationally acclaimed street artist is almost as well known for his secret identity as he is for his actual art, and two weeks ago it was revealed that his plan had been to show up at the ceremony in a monkey mask -- only to have the Academy shoot that idea down. Or not. A recent quote from Tom Sherak that suggests that the mask might still happen. Read more details after the jump. Earlier this month, the Academy rejected [3] Banksy's idea on the grounds that it could potentially lead to masked gatecrashers all claiming to be Banksy: The fun but disquieting scenario is if that film wins and five guys in monkey masks come to the stage all saying,...

The director of Oscar-nommed Exit Through The Gift Shop is famed for his anonymity. But will the street art vigilante lower his hood if he wins? Exit Through The Gift Shop director "Banksy" is famed for his anonymity. The director is one of street art's most celebrated graffiti-ers, and yet few have seen his face or know his true identity. So when Exit was nominated in the Oscar Doc Feature category, the first thought on many minds was: What if he wins? Will he show up bare-faced to accept? Or will there be monkey masks and anarchy involved? Not thanks to the buzzkills of the Academy! When Banksy was a no-show at last week's nominees luncheon, the Academy's executive director, Bruce Davis and president Tom Sherak confronted Exit producer Jaimie D'Cruz (also up for the Oscar) with concerns over a possible Banksy acceptance speech/spectacle. Sherak told TheWrap, 'We had...

The 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards were handed out today and to very little surprise The King's Speech led the way with seven BAFTA Awards as it was also the most nominated film among all nominees with 14 total nominations.
Among its achievements it took home Best Picture, Outstanding British Film, Best Actor for Colin Firth, Best Original screenplay for David Seidler and Best Score for Alexandre Desplat. Where the surprises came were in the supporting wins for both Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter showing The Fighter apparently doesn't pack as much of a punch across the pond as it does here.
Also, for those of you trying to predict the Oscars and are wondering which direction to go with Best Director, David Fincher took home the award for The Social Network, one of three wins on the night for the film. Aaron Sorkin also won for Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing.

Street artist Banksy doesn't show his face in public -- and as a result, the Oscars may kick him to the curb.
The elusive artist directed the street art documentary "Exit Through The Gift Shop," which was nominated for an Academy Award. It's a great achievement, but presents one major problem: Banksy doesn't show his face in public.
Rumored to wear a monkey mask while making rare public appearances, his antics have those behind the Oscars worried -- and ready to make contingencies in case he wins.
Academy executive director Bruce Davis talked about the issue to The Wrap. "If that film wins and five guys in monkey masks come to the stage all saying, 'I'm Banksy!' Who the hell do we give it to?" he asked rhetorically. Because of those worries, the artist will most likely not be allowed on stage.

The documentary which is credited to the elusive street art icon Banksy is up for an Oscar, but The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences isn't sure how to handle the situation. He has worn disguises in the past (dark hooded sweatshirts, monkey masks) and has even sent others to fill in for his absense. The filmmaker did not show up for the annual Oscar luncheon, but if the film wins, will he go up on stage? The Academy's executive director Bruce Davis tells The Wrap [2]: The fun but disquieting scenario is if that film wins and five guys in monkey masks come to the stage all saying, 'I'm Banksy!' Who the hell do we give it to? [The Academy] needs to have a procedure in place.

The Oscar race is on again. Office pools everywhere are likely heating up with the announcement of the nominees for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards (airing February 27th on ABC). I may not know who will be winners and I am not a gambling man, but playing prophet is always fun, regardless of the award.
As always, there should be two picks for each category when you're faced with a list of Oscar nominees. One as a personal pick and one as a guess as to which the Academy would pick.

Like we promised yesterday, the 83rd annual Academy Award nominations have been announced this morning -- following yesterdays Razzie nominees funnily enough! Announced at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles, California by President Tom Sherak and last year's Best Supporting Actress winner Mo'Nique. So this means that the winners of these categories, will go on to be announced at the event itself - hosted by 2011 nominees Anne Hathaway, and James Franco (unfortunately Rickey Gervais was busy) - which is held February 27th.
Looking at the nominations for 2011, it looks like The King's Speech and The Fighter are looking at some good wins, with 12-13 nods each -- along with, of course The Social Network. But whats got me, is the lack of nominations for Nolan's Inception -- which was bloody fantastic, and my second favorite of the year.

After seeing so few surprises at the Golden Globes this year, I wasn't expecting to see anything particularly different with this year's Oscar nominees. However, now that the full list of nominations has been announced, there are some pretty cool picks in among the more predictable choices. Some of my favourites include Jesse Eisenberg getting a nod for Best Actor in The Social Network, Hailee Steinfeld for Best Supporting Actress in True Grit, and John Hawkes for Best Supporting Actor for Winter's Bone. Even Exit through the Gift Shop and Gas Land managed to get nominated for Best Documentary. Overall, I'm not seeing many snubs or oversights except for maybe Christopher Nolan for Best Director, Inception for Best Editing, and Ryan Gosling for Best Actor (for Blue Valentine). The King's Speech is out in front with 12 nominations, followed by True Grit with 10. Are you satisfied with this year's Oscar nominees?...

The nominees for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards have been announced. As expected, big players include The Social Network and The King's Speech, but there are very strong showings for The Kids Are All Right, The Fighter and True Grit. The Best Picture nominees are: Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The King's Speech, 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, True Grit, and Winter's Bone. If you're going by the numbers, The King's Speech is strong with 12, followed by a wonderful 10 for True Grit and then 8 for both The Social Network and Inception, with the latter scoring on technical nominations. The full list of nominees is after the break. While Inception did manage to squeeze into the Best Picture race, Christopher Nolan didn't get a Best Director slot. Glad that Javier Bardem got his nod for Biutiful, and that True Grit shows up as strong as it does.

The granddaddy of the awards season, the Academy Awards, has unveiled its nominations for the 83rd Oscars! While the usual suspects were given nods, there were still a few surprises. Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem squeezed in and bumped Robert Duvall out from the Best Actor category. Duvall's performance in "Get Low" is nominated for a SAG award but the Academy chose Bardem in his foreign-language nominated film, "Biutiful."
Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech" garnered 12 nominations including Best Picture. The riveting film will compete against "The Fighter," "Inception," "The Kids Are All Right," "127 Hours," "The Social Network," "Toy Story 3," "True Grit," and "Winter's Bone."
Yes, Ben Affleck's "The Town" was ignored except for Jeremy Renner's Best Supporting actor nomination. He will duke it out with front runner, "The Fighter's" Christian Bale, and John Hawkes ("Winter's Bone"), Mark Ruffalo ("The Kids Are All Right"), and Geoffrey Rush ("The King's Speech").

Last night's fourth annual Cinema Eye Honors, the awards show dedicated entirely to documentary excellence, belonged to street artist Banksy. His film "Exit Through the Gift Shop" took home two awards including the film's top prize for Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking and the man himself delivered the acceptance speech of the night. Well, not quite the man himself, since Banksy was a no show (obviously, since nobody outside of one random seller on eBay). But "Gift Shop" producer Jaimie D'Cruz, accepting the award on Banksy's behalf, read some words the man himself had prepared. And they were fantastic. After some pleasantries, D'Cruz got down to business. I had my tape recorder rolling. Here was Banksy's speech:
"Now's not the time for long, rambling speeches. I'll leave that for the director of 'Waiting for Superman.'
I'd like to thank the Cinema Eye awards. It's great...

Two things the British apparently love: stammering English monarchs and crazy-eyed New York ballerinas.
Tom Hooper's historical drama "The King's Speech," starring Colin Firth as speech-impeded King George VI, and Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan," featuring a crazy-eyed Natalie Portman as a dancer on the verge of a "Swan Lake"-induced breakdown, topped the Orange British Academy Film Awards nominations, which the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced today. "The King's Speech" led the way with 14 nominations, "Black Swan" scored 12, "Inception" snagged nine, and "True Grit" and "127 Hours" nabbed eight apiece. After the sham [1] of (and ridiculous hand-wringing response to) [2] the Golden Globes, there's nothing like a slightly more legitimate awards ceremony to cleanse the palate. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the nominees for the 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards this morning. Hit the jump for the full list of nominees and some brief thoughts. There's nothing too controversial on the list, although there are a few surprises. It's great to see some less-praised roles get some loving here, including Noomi Rapace in Girl with Dragon Tattoo, and Pete Postlethwaite in The Town. Jeff Bridges landed a nomination for best actor in True Grit, foreshadowing what may be an Oscar nomination in the same category a few weeks from now. London -- Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech" is in pole position to be crowned the big winner at this year's Orange British Academy Film Awards, presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. There is nothing stuttering in the nomination race for the Colin Firth starrer about King George VI with the movie securing 14 slots on the potential kudos count sheet.Hooper secures a best director nomination and the picture a best film tilt. Speech will compete with the David Fincher-directed Facebook drama "The Social Network," balletic thriller "Black Swan," from Darren Aronofsky, Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic "Inception" and the Coen brothers' western remake "True Grit" for the best film nod.In the best director category, Danny Boyle could secure his second BAFTA director nod after Slumdog for his efforts with his adventurous biopic dramatization "127 Hours" if he fends off challenges from Hooper, Aronofsky, Nolan and Fincher.

This morning, Bafta announced its nominations for its 2011 awards, with Tom Hooper's period drama The King's Speech (2010) leading the way with 14 nominations including "Best Film" and "Best Actor" for Colin Firth's turn as the stammering King George VI.
Darren Aronofsky's highly anticipated psychological ballet thriller Black Swan (2010) - released in UK cinemas this Friday (review here) follows closely behind with 12 nods. As expected, Danny Boyle's 127 Hours (2010), Christopher Nolan's Inception (2010), David Fincher's The Social Network (2009) and the Cohen brothers' visceral western True Grit (2010) all feature highly.

Tonight the 2011 Orange British Academy Film Award nominees were announced and to no surprise The King's Speech led the way with 14 nominations in all the expected categories including Best Film alongside fellow nominees Black Swan, Inception, The Social Network and True Grit.
Oscar front-runner The Social Network scored six nominations, but was still behind Black Swan with 12 noms, Christopher Nolan's Inception with nine, the Coen brothers' True Grit scored eight and Danny Boyle's 127 Hours received seven nominations.
Looking over the list really quickly I notice that not only was The Social Network not among the leading nominees it was also snubbed for Best Original Music, Cinematography and Sound. Elsewhere, Winter's Bone star Jennifer Lawrence wasn't nominated for Lead Actress as Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) was nominated instead. Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole) wasn't nominated either, but neither was Sally Hawkins for Made in Dagenham.

The infamous (and anonymous) graffiti artist Banksy is pulling what may be his biggest prank ever at Sundance -- with the help of fellow Brit Rhys Ifans.
The guerrilla pseudo-documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop," billed as "A Banksy Film" and narrated by Ifans, will have its world premiere Sunday night at the Library Center Theater as the fest's Spotlight Surprise.
Cinetic Media is repping sales for the stealth project. Hopes are that an adventurous distributor will pony up as many millions for the film as Banksy earns for the "street art" he secretly leaves in urban spaces. Several of his works have appeared on Park City walls this week.
Insiders say "Exit" takes audiences on hairpin twists and turns as it chronicles renegade urban artists and pranksters from around the world.
